English (ESL) with Olivia C.

Hey there! My name is Olivia and I am so glad to meet you. Teaching, language and making connections with others are things I am truly passionate about. I’m lucky to say that I’ve travelled to many parts of the world and had the pleasure of meeting and working with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds, cultures and native languages. Language is a more than a just a peek into another culture, but an indispensable method of understanding the people and history that make up that culture. Having this perspective makes it that much more special to be able to share my own native language and anecdotes, as well as a language I’ve put more than a decade of effort into mastering. In 2014 I set out on an adventure and left to travel through Europe with the intention of making a temporary base in the south of Spain. (I’m a southerner at heart. What can I say?!) I didn’t make it as far south as I thought I’d have liked initially, because Barcelona was too magnificent to leave at the time. It was there I started teaching English and fell in love with everything about it. In 2016 I went on to travel through Mexico for months from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic, and live briefly in Lima, Perú. (I was able to secure a position with an English academy specializing in Business English before my flight even took off.) I began teaching in the busy and always-chaotic Lima immediately after arriving. Although the Peruvian cuisine was devastating to leave behind, I returned to Barcelona in 2017 and picked up right where I left off. I believe in really getting to know my students as well as their needs, goals, strengths and weaknesses. I believe in letting you have some say, also, in your lessons. I don’t believe in endless drilling and bookwork. That is a piece of cake for anyone to facilitate, and a surefire way to see a noticeable decline in drive and interest. I love what I do! I love the English language y me encanta la lengua española/castellana. I feel my job is to help you understand these languages and provide you the tools to properly and effectively communicate on your own. Everyone has different tastes, interests, and motivations.
