    About Michael H.

I'm a High School ESL Teacher in the country of China. I'm an introverted individual but when I teach I am much more social and talkative. I recently took a personality inventory called Clifton Strengths and I will share with you what my strengths were on this test. Responsibility- The way I approach responsibility is by the belief that it is my responsibility to help a student learn English. Techniques I use to enable this are reviewing what we went over from previous lessons to make sure a student is learning the material well. Developer-The way I approach this is by setting a goal and getting my student to accomplish that goal by using different techniques I have learned through out my teaching career. AS technique I have used in the past is something called Test Teach Test. Empathy Listening is one of my better skills. I think it is important to listen to people and it requires effort to do. By listening to the feelings of others, I become clearer and less conflicted. My empathy leads me to listen to the message of the person but also having care for the person who is talking also. Everybody deserves to be listened to. Intellection I like to I share ideas and pose questions. Learning new things is very important to me and posing questions to people and sharing ideas is a fun environment to be in for me and it is in this environment when I learn things well. Deliberative I like roles where I can research and analyze information. I have a way of thinking that enables me to analyze information well. I like to analyze subjects related to the social sciences but I’m also good at analyzing educational practices and strategies to see if students are learning or if they are not learning. The teaching strategy or process I like to use is called differentiated instruction and I do this by using a process called the Daily 5. The Daily 5 is a series of tasks that students must complete on a daily basis. They must read to themselves, read to someone else, listen to reading, work on writing, and do word work. This process makes the process of learning repetitive and easier which I think is important when learning a second language.
