I am a bilingual special education teacher for students from Kindergarten thru 8th grade. For the past 4 years, I have focused on specializing in reading particularly learning about researched based intervention programs that adhere results. I believe that everyone has the capacity to read, but it is important to learn what skill is keeping a child from reading. In the first session, the student will be assessed using a variety of tests. Once, the tests are analyzed a comprehensive plan will be developed to target the need(s) of the student. Intervention programs yield results when they are done consecutively for about 4 days. Every lesson that is provided ends and begins with an assessment which allows me to evaluate and shift the plan or continue the lessons in the program if progress is documented. There will also be weekly progress monitoring to evaluate the effectiveness of the program. It may sound like a lot but it really isn't if you want your child to become a reader and reduce his frustration when encountering texts that are a challenge for him/her.
