Need US English not classroom English?

My goals for teaching English are about relationships. In the short term I work to build relationships with my students, even if it is using a translator. I find out what they think will be of most benefit to them to learn. One of my students is sewing to help support her family, the first thing we are learning are basic sewing terms because that is what she can use today. Long term, I want to build a relationship where the student can build their confidence and take risks in using English. One of my friends knew basic English but was hesitant to use it because she did not speak as well as the rest of the people that had transferred with her. She recently told me that she was volunteering at her son’s school as room mom because she was more confident in using her English and not as afraid to make mistakes. I want to help my students integrate English as a part of their life and who they are.

If you're ready to start improving your English... you're in the right place! I have been developing my problem solving skills since I was born which carried me through an engineering degree. Children altered my career path and now I use those skills to help identify problem areas my students have in English. We are going to map out your big plans and hit the ground running. We are going to start enriching your English soon - but there's one thing I need to know first: What is the biggest thing on your to-do list that you are not doing because you are waiting on someone else to help you with your English? The new you starts now by improving your English. Let's make it happen! When would be a good time to talk with you about what you would like to get out of your lessons?

Lori is a great teacher because she isn’t only a grammar and speech instructor, she is also an awesome friend. I am a middle schooler who came to USA with a very weak English knowledge, and Lori was the one who helped me fit into the brand new community while teaching me new language. Together we talked about school, different situations that could happen in public and played American card games. she also helped me with homework and projects. We even studied for Spelling Bee! (I had no idea what it was until she told me 😄) When my study time was over and I had finally exited her program, she decided to make an online book club. It really helped me because I got a chance to learn English while reading books. I liked that we got to vote on the books ourselves and the book discussions helped me improve my English speech. I really recommend Lori as a teacher because she really helped me fit into the community and I am sure she will help you as well.

I would like to thank Lori for the lessons we had during 2018-2020. It has been very valuable experience for me especially regarding understanding american culture and Texan way of life. Lori is great teacher that can accommodate changes to the learning program as per your needs. I should mention her professionalism and constant focus on teaching during the lessons.
