Master of Science in Education, Adolescent Education
Master Language, Literature, and Writing with an Experienced, Licensed, Certified, Friendly Teacher!
How do you want to grow?
Do you want to develop your ability to express yourself creatively, persuasively, and analytically?
Do you want to understand how to examine a text critically and provide in-depth, insightful analysis?
Do you want to improve your literacy across contents, improving your understanding and performance in any subject that involves language -- including math, science, and social studies?
I'm a licensed, certified English Language Arts teacher with a decade of teaching / tutoring experience, an MSEd in adolescent education from St. John's University in New York, an MFA in creative writing from Emerson College in Boston, and a BA in English with a history minor from Rutgers University in New Brunswick.
But while my degrees point to the strength of my content and pedagogical knowledge (which is substantial), what makes me a great teacher is my dedication to building relationships with my students, getting to know who they are not only as learners, but people. By doing this, I can tailor my approach specifically to their learning needs, building on their strengths and interests to help them grow as readers, writers, and students.

About Linda S.
In order to learn, you have to be seen.
We all want to be seen. But particularly when talking about academics, your ideas and the way that you see the world are key elements of how you learn.
I have the credentials to show I know my content. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in history from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, an MFA in creative writing (a studio and research program) from Emerson College in Boston, and an MSEd in adolescent education from St. John's University in Queens, New York. I have extensive content and pedagogical knowledge -- I know what to teach and how to teach it.
But my strongest attribute as a teacher by far is my enthusiasm for building relationships with and getting to know my students. I see my students as whole people. I get to know who they are, where they're coming from, what they're passionate about, what frustrates them -- and by getting to know who a person is, I get to know the best way to help them learn.
My practice is heavily student-centered - we find a "way in" to the content together, and I'll guide you with models, strategies, discussions, and practices to get you thinking, learning, and growing in the ways that are so essential to reading, writing, and analysis - ways that will help prepare you not only for your next academic steps, but that you can apply in "the real world" as well.
I try to make learning an engaging, joyful experience for my students (and me!) so that you take more away from it than just better grades and test scores (though those will inevitably happen, too, as you learn and grow!).
