I can teach essay composition, creative writing, and poetry. I have been writing and editing poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and song lyrics seriously for over 10 years.

About Andrew
I've been studying music for 10 years now. Having come to music later in life than most, I find that I am more empathetic to the perspective of the beginning student than many teachers. I spent the Summer of 2009 teaching music fundamentals to groups of severely physically and mentally disabled children of all ages. Since then I've completed my Bachelors degree in Music, taught privately and with several established music schools.

To me, music is above all about transformation. Beautiful sound transforms our experience of the environment, and learning an instrument can help students approach life as one big instrument they need to practice to master.
Learning to play an instrument is also an experience of training one’s nervous system to gradually act and respond in new ways, and that kind of persistent, focused
, training is applicable to any new skill.
Last and definitely not least, playing music is fun.

*** Lesson Details ***

I plan my lessons around getting students to enjoy playing music as soon as possible, whether that means learning how to strum a chord rhythmically, playing their favorite song, or how to take a blues solo.
There are steps that have to be climbed to do more complex things and I encourage students to practice a little every day rather than for a long time once or twice a week. Developing a love of music and steady practice habits are more beneficial over the long term than practicing until your limit.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I currently have a living room space where I can teach, but it's small so it might be preferable to travel to you.

*** Travel Equipment ***
If necessary I can provide amplification, cables, and a microphone.

*** Specialties ***
Jazz, Folk, Blues, Rock, Hip-hop, Funk, Reggae.

About Jamison
If you are looking to book lessons in your home, I am available to travel farther on a case by case basis. Please messsage me using the Ask a Question button near my profile picture.

I am experienced with all ages from 5 - adult and have been teaching lessons for many years. I began as a volunteer in High School and built a larger private base of students while in college. I have played lead guitarist/singer/songwriter roles in several rock bands, including my current rock band The Rift, as well as participated in award winning ensembles of all varieties (Jazz Bands, Wind Symphonies, Marching Band, Symphonic Band). Despite a background rich in performance, teaching is my foremost skill and profession. In addition to lessons, I've taught in the classroom setting and at summer camps. I was the first Popular Music and Jazz Major to g
raduate from the University of Rochester/Eastman School of Music. Currently, I'm completing my Master's Degree at Hunter College in Manhattan in Music Education while maintaining a flexible schedule as to accommodate new students.

*** Lesson Details ***
I maintain a fun, understanding, patient, and straightforward approach to help you play what you want, while building essential techniques and skills using music of your choosing. In younger students this often perpetuates enthusiasm and develops taste. I also tutor music theory, composition, and/or songwriting, and upon request, will bring those skill sets into the lesson curriculum. I prefer to come to you, but am willing to host and have before. I will produce additional references and a resume upon request. If you commit to practicing and your lesson curriculum, you can expect noticeable improvement and a solid base of knowledge and essential skills, achieved through the music you love.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Upright piano; Fender Hot Rod 40W Tube Amp; Acoustic 15 W Solid State; Yamaha USB compatible keyboard; 5.1 surround sound with 40" monitor; Mac Mini; Multiple electric and acoustic guitars; USB Condenser Mic, Garageband and Logic Studio; Intel iMac; Buffet Tenor Saxophone, Yamaha Y-62 Alto Saxophone, Bundy II Alto Saxophone for rent

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have my own instrument, tuner, cables, etc. I generally expect my students to provide their own instrument, and be willing to purchase a few basic materials (book for lesson entries, one other instructional book). I'm a minimalist when it comes to this. I am always willing to consult on instruments, materials, or anything other query's you may have outside lessons, via phone or e-mail.

*** Specialties ***
As per my degree, I am especially knowledgeable regarding popular music, rock and roll, and jazz. I hold student recitals every year and I've had many students perform, as well as write their own music and gain a solid knowledge of beginner music theory. My education and experience have been comprehensive, and I am versatile within all genres of music.

I must say that I am please with Jamie's technique and patience with me. Jamie is very knowledgable and shares some of his secrets (not shortcuts mind you) that help in learning to master the acoustic guitar. He leaves you with valuable lessons and exercises that can do nothing but improve on how you play the guitar. I'm looking forward to continuing my lessons with Jamie.

Whether you are looking for instruction in reading, writing, analysis, comprehension, or something else, I have experience teaching all levels of students in the aforementioned areas. Being able to self-express verbally and through the written word are skills that must be developed for academic success at the high school and collegiate level. It is never too early or too late to begin developing a comprehensive understanding of the English language.

About Jillian
I have a Master's degree in Music Therapy, am a nationally board certified music therapist (MT-BC); performer and vocal instructor (Bachelor's in Classical Voice); certified yoga instructor and meditation guide (200+); certified and attuned Reiki master; professional writer and editor.

...I find joy in a lot of places! And often I find these areas of study inform and augment each other.

Music therapy has afforded me a great deal of experience working with children, teens, and adults with special needs including, autism spectrum disorder, Down's syndrome, cerebral palsy, emotional disturbances and developmental delays as well as teens and adults with psychosocial issues, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, grief, ADHD, personality disorders, and more.

I incorporate my experience as a therapist into the educative se
tting.

As a voice teacher, I want to help my students settle comfortably into their own musicality by showing them the building blocks of a solid technique, drawing particularly from the things that helped me grow as a vocalist. I want my students to feel strong in their body, comfortable and relaxed in their breath, and confident in their performance.

I am a professional vocalist in NYC. I perform liturgical and classical music, as well as musical theater repertoire. I participate in professional operas, choral groups and other concert series, as well as professional theater work. Performing gives me a sense of bliss and completeness that is indescribable.

As a certified yoga instructor, I teach in many locations throughout NYC. I was trained at Yoga Haven in Scarsdale, New York with Betsy Kase, and earned a 200-hour certificate in Asana, Pranayama, and Meditation. I went on to complete advanced trainings and now specialize in restorative yoga, prenatal yoga, yin yoga and therapeutics. I offer private yoga instruction and meditation at my home studio, and on occasion in my clients’ homes. My studio comes fully equipped with all yoga props, aromatherapy, and music. Hands-on-assists and personalized sequencing to deepen your experience.

It is a joy to offer Reiki to curious, open clients in need of energy healing. Reiki is a noninvasive energy healing technique totally separate of any religious affiliation and available to anyone. It is a difficult to describe the relaxing, soothing, and deep-healing effects of Reiki to someone who has never experienced.

Please feel free to inquire about any of my services!

*Note: If you don't see a time slot that is suitable to your needs but would like to try a session with me, feel free to register for the Flex Plan, and we will work out week-to-week times!!**

**Note: If you are interested in music therapy, please email me with a bit about yourself (or your loved one) and your personal goals, as well as the qualities you hope to find in your therapist.

Excellent first voice lesson. Jillian is warm, encouraging, and very knowledgeable. I was surprised how many "technical" issues she introduced me to (optimal breathing & how best to practice it at home; appropriate use of falsetto at upper limit of bass voice range, etc.) . Looking forward to continued lessons. (Much better use of what used to be my copay for psychotherapy! I've also joined rehearsals with new Encore-NYC chorale group in Manhattan, for people over 55. Music is giving me a real emotional lift in my retirement.)

This class is designed to improve your English writing and speaking skills. Curriculums are designed based on student's proficiency level (beginner-advanced). Through a variety of exercises and homework assignments, students will learn the fundamentals of structure, grammar, and conversational English. An emphasis will be placed on real-world practice conversations to perfect pronunciation and confidence.

Students who have a specific goal to reach (job interview, college applications, etc.) will receive a custom lesson plan.

***At the end of each session, students will either given a homework assignment or have the opportunity to discuss making adjustments to the curriculum based on how each lesson is progressing.

About Tayra
Hello! I'm an experienced Writer, Illustrator & Designer.

I've been working as a private tutor for about 5 years. I have experience tutoring in English language, grammar, math, history, science, and literature with a specialty in creative writing, essay writing, and visual arts. My students range from ages 5-18. I even have experience preparing high schoolers for college admission exams and procedures. I believe that there are multiple ways to learn and, therefore, I believe each of my students has unique needs and interests.

To make learning more exciting, I enjoy creating lesson plans that may be in a game form or involve interactive or conversational forms, if it means that the student can understand better.

Above all, I love literature, design, illustration, and writing and incorporate it into my everyday life. It really is
something I love doing, which is why I'm happy to teach my students and help them discover what they love about whatever it is they are interested in. Not sure? I'll help you figure it out. Being interested in multiple subjects is okay too!

Besides my love for design and literature, I love teaching. My proudest moments have involved my students accomplishing their personal goals, including becoming more proficient and confident in speaking English and getting into the college of their dreams with an amazing essay! Getting to know a new student is just as important to me as designing and preparing lesson plans.

I want to learn about you so that I can help you learn in whichever way you choose.

Throughout my years in school, I learned how important having the right teacher is. I believe that great presentation is the key to invigorating learning. I help my students find a fun way to reach their toughest goals.

Any questions? Don't be afraid to ask! :)

Tayra is awesome! She really helped me with my pronunciation and even helped me practice for a job interview. I struggle with my accent a lot even though my writing is good. She's very patient and checked in a lot with me to make sure our lesson plans were helping along the way. I also cancelled on her twice and she didn't mind! She let me reschedule! I originally purchased 5 lessons but seeing as to how much I have improved, I bought a couple more to help me with my SAT practice (I'm an ESL student). Tayra's the best! She also speaks Spanish so that was a plus!

Philosophical Writing and Critical Thinking:

Philosophy, as an academic subject, exposes pupils to thinking , reading, and writing critically about certain types of texts.

About Will
I graduated from Cornell University in a dual Ph.D. program in Classics and Philosophy. I also graduated from the University of Chicago with an A.M. in Classical Languages. I graduated from Tulane University with an A.B. in Greek, Latin, and Philosophy. I've studied at Columbia University, New York University, Syracuse University, C.W. Post, Loyola New Orleans, Farmingdale University, Tulane University, The University of Chicago, Cornell University, the Goethe Institut (in Germany), and others. Since I offer students lessons in Latin to help them develop their critical thinking skills, skills they need to graduate high school with what they can presumably use for life, I try to tutor to show how practical Latin is. With that said, I also assess with a view toward that end. The capacities that I seek to help my Latin language learners wit
h include self-expression, reflection, dialectical conversation, debating and evaluating points, et al. Students learn the history surrounding the texts they read with me. They learn how to apply certain cultural or linguistic concepts to novel situations. I aim to help Latin clients become better at reading, writing, and speaking. Latin students, at least the ones that I try to work with, are adept at formulating questions, reading dense pieces of Latin and English prose and poetry, evaluating and debating philosophical and literary works, conveying their thoughts about philosophical topics,

I have tutored all sorts of people in multiple subjects including the ancient languages, mathematics, writing, and test preparation as well as all levels of mathematics - from arithmetic to differential equations.

Although my profile has recently been posted, I have tutored for nearly fifteen years.

As a Fulbright alumni living in New York for nearly a decade I feel comfortable teaching English to non native of any country!

About Andrea
Bassist and composer Andrea Veneziani performs extensively within the improvised music scene, across a broad spectrum of genres. His instrumental tone, sensitivity and imagination, and melodic approach to a supposedly clumsy instrument brought him to perform and record with many established musicians. Based in New York City, his work as an instrumentalist and composer can be regularly heard at the top jazz clubs in the city and around the globe.

As a current faculty member of the New York Jazz Workshop, Andrea Veneziani is a dedicated educator. He has taught master classes at the National Institute of Music and the National University of Costa Rica, at the Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey and at the Olav Duun Videregående Skole in Namsos, Norway. He also served as an adjunct professor at New York University, where he graduated i
n 2011 with a Master of Music Degree in Performance with a Concentration in Jazz as a Fulbright scholarship recipient.

Whether you need help with an analytical essay, in class essay, grammar, or another aspect of academic English, we will work together to interpret the assignment and plan the best course of action. For writing this includes outlining, planning and writing, time management, and keeping productive habits.

About Andrea
I am a comedy writer and screenwriter based in Brooklyn, NY.

I specialize in creative writing, academic writing, and college admissions essays. Whether you or your child wants to improve their writing, loves writing but experiences writer's block or an inability to actually DO the writing, or wants to workshop essays for a class, application, or personal project, I am excited to work together with my students and help them achieve their goals.

At Tufts University I studied English with a focus in creative writing. In school I wrote a mix of analytical papers and creative works, culminating in a fiction thesis. In school I taught a successful weekly creative writing class to homeschooled students, helping them improve their writing and create new and engaging stories that they later submitted to contests and magazines around the No

Andrea works at the Writing Center at Grace Church School, a leading independent high school in lower Manhattan. I've taught there for the last couple years and make a point to send my students to the Writing Center (and her specifically, whenever possible) if they are struggling with any areas of their writing.

I've observed her in the Writing Center on a number of occasions, and she always does a great job navigating the difficult balance between helping students directly, and creating a path for them to work through questions on their own. She is direct, but supportive. She also is very perceptive of students' anxiety levels - many are kids who tend to stress about college and grades often - and how to change her tone, or comment with a personal anecdote, when what the student needs most is a moment to laugh or calm down.

Andrea's best skill in my opinion is teaching her tutees to adjust their priorities based on a deadline. She consults students whose papers are due in a couple of hours, and others who have a whole week left, and without being preachy gets across realistic expectations of what can be done within the timeframe.
