I have taught chess at all levels for over 30 years.  I have played competitive chess for over 45 years and achieved the national master title.  Several of my students have achieved national ranking.  Many others have improved their play and learned to love the game.

My approach to teaching chess is to help you think and solve problems over the board.  Becoming familiar with tactical and positional themes will help you play better and also give you an appreciation for the beauty of chess and understand why it has endured.

I am a semi-retired IT Professional working in the computer storage field.  After spending 32 years at IBM I now work for a small software company as a consultant. My wife and I love to travel and we take several long trips every year.  I stay active by working out, playing pickle ball and table tennis.

I am on the board of two chess related non-profit organizations.  I am a certified chess tournament director and have organized and directed numerous local and national tournaments.

I achieved the National Master title with the US Chess Federation in 1991.  These days I only compete infrequently and mostly play chess casually online.
