Substitute Teacher
Oct, 2010 - Feb, 2011Holy Trinity Elementary
I worked for six months as a substitute teacher at Holy Trinity School in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. I taught class sizes ranging from 15-25 students in grades Kindergarten–8th grade, in subjects such as mathematics, English, history, and music. I took part in supervising students in several after school activities as well as organizing and administering various student organizations, including but not limited to: musical performances, talent shows, fitness education, after-school programs, spelling bees, and other duties when requested or needed. Holy Trinity School is a top rated private elementary school in the United States and their students frequently go on to study at the nation’s best colleges and universities.
English Teacher (Kindergarten)
Feb, 2016 - Mar, 2017Singapore Multilingual International School
I worked as an English teacher at Singapore Multilingual International School (SMIS) in Sinsa, part of the Gangnam district of Seoul, Republic of Korea (South Korea). SMIS is a private academy for Korean kindergarteners aged 6-7 years old. My classes ranged from 2-9 students, and I was responsible for developing and applying core curriculum standards to enhance the student’s early-stage learning and strengthen the foundations of their language learning abilities. Students at SMIS are given a unique venue for learning with an outdoor garden in the heart of Seoul, as well as the ability see and touch the components of their lesson objectives instead of learning only from a book or from sitting at a desk. I was also responsible for developing and coaching the students in preparation for the year-end musical performance inspired by Disney’s The Lion King. All students at SMIS learned both English and Chinese.
English Teacher
Jan, 2015 - Feb, 2016Sogang Language Program
I worked at the Sogang Language Program (SLP) for one year near Hansang University in Seoul. The students’ ages ranged from 8-15 years old, and class sizes were 2-10 students. SLP is an immersion English program focused on giving students the most efficient and intensive English language instruction available today. Classes are strictly English-only with heavy emphasis on critical thinking and conceptual understanding, as opposed to simply regimented memorization and repetition. Class objectives included phonics, vocabulary, grammar, listening, speaking, debate, and persuasive speech writing.
