English (ESL) with Claudia M.

Hello! My name is Claudia and I am a senior undergraduate student at the University of Texas, currently majoring in History and Spanish for Global Competence. Since I was younger, I always knew what I wanted to be when I grew up: an educator. I am passionate about teaching and I believe every student has a unique way of understanding concepts, and the teacher should adapt to it in order to facilitate the learning process. When I am working with students I always try my best to introduce new topics in an easy to understand manner, building upon previous knowledge and experience the student may have. Learning is not supposed to be just memorizing information based on a generic lesson plan. That is why I like to introduce topics based on what the student already knows, letting them set the pace. That allows me to adjust my teaching method to the students' individual needs and continue from there until the objective is reached. As a tutor, I aspire to be not just a source of information but a person the student can rely on, someone who helps them feel confident about their abilities and encourages them to do their best in order to succeed academically. I have had the opportunity to work with children as well as classmates and adults, tutoring them in various subjects, especially Spanish and History. I am a native Spanish but I am also fluent in English. I currently participate as a Spanish tutor for the Modern Languages department at my university, where I assist students from both lower and upper-level classes with essay composition, advanced grammar, test preparation, and homework, among other things.
