English (ESL) with Cheri S.

I have lived in non-English settings for 12 years, living and learning local language and culture, while helping locals learn English. I have a Master's degree in Art Therapy (Art & Psychology bachelor degrees). These studies enabled me to better understand how to listen to people's stories and to listen well so that I could help them from their own context; an important skill in teaching English. 2002-2008 For 5 years in China I taught Art and Physical Education, giving me experience in classroom settings with students from over 16 different countries, all with a native tongue. During my 5th & 6th years in China I worked within the Chinese schools and the sports community, helping tie character values into physical education, while helping students speak basic English. 2008- 2014 I lived in the southern parts of Africa for 6 years, working within the sports community, developing youth to lead well. I was helping local people develop their English speaking skills throughout this time (while I learned their language basics). Learning another language or developing a second language can be fun!
