I have been signing since 1998, spending every chance I can among my Deaf friends and immersing myself in the language as often as possible. I received my BA in Music with a certification to teach at Lubbock Christian University in 1998. Later I attended the Interpreter Certification program at Burlington County College in New Jersey from 2009-2011, and during that time took a summer course at Gallaudet University for the Deaf in Washington DC. Then in 2014 I received my MEd in Curriculum and Instruction with Instructional Technology from Houston Baptist University. I have been teaching ASL at the high school level since 2011. I have also been one of the interpreters for the Deaf at my church in Fort Bend County, TX, outside of Houston, where I was a member and actively involved in the Deaf Ministry while I lived in the area from 2011-2018. Now I'm involved with the Deaf community in Michigan and work with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services in Grand Rapids. Please feel free to ask me any questions you have. I'm happy to get back with you, and I look forward to teaching you!

I'm taking Sign Language 2 this semester and was completely overwhelmed. I'm so thankful for Carla! She was able to help me understand and actually improve my signing abilities. She is absolutely wonderful!
Our daughter absolutely loved Carla! She was encouraging, an excellent teacher, fun, positive and more! She matched our daughter's pace. She learned so much from her and though our daughter discontinued learning ASL because she began college, she hopes to connect with Carla again someday to continue learning ASL. What a great experience! Thank you Carla!
Carla took the time to call me when I registered to talk about what I was looking for in the lesson. She came prepared to the lesson and is very knowledgeable. She made it comfortable and easy to learn!
