I am an experienced English teacher and language tutor. I hold a Master's in Linguistics and TESOL from Ball State University as well as a Bachelor's in English from Indiana University. I specialize in rhetoric and academic writing, English as a Second Language, and foreign language instruction/tutoring in Spanish, German, and Indonesian. Writing students who work with me learn about the composition process, effective grammar and usage, as well as stylistic considerations. Because I focus on academic writing, I help students to navigate the world of scholarly research and journals, a necessary skill whether in a secondary or high education setting. Language students who study with me can expect to focus heavily on communicative skills, e.g., speaking and writing, along with intense practice in listening and reading. My overall goal as a teacher is help students become better learners, giving them the tools to be confident writers and researchers as well as proficient users of their target language(s).
