I love teaching piano in North Wales! I have students of all ages who keep me on my toes. My teaching philosophy is to integrate technique, theory, and fun because regardless of age or skill level, music is a blast!

I received several students who previously had piano teachers that unfortunately did not seem to care about playing the piano well or adding joy to the instrument. As a result, these students came to me lacking basic skills, which made it difficult to progress much further than a beginner level. However, with a little time, patience, and laughter we have worked through some of these very important details, enabling them to hear pitch better, follow a steady rhythm, and ultimately read music as a second language.

My student Nikolas comes to mind when I think of rhythm. He had struggled greatly with following a steady beat when I first started teaching him. When we started to improve his eighth notes, we took to marching. Music evokes a connection with the body, so helping Nikolas connect his eighth notes to his body and away from the piano was the key for success. We both may have felt silly, but even through the laughter, now not only do Nikolas’ eighth notes soar, he also performed a blues song using a smooth jazz rhythm at our last recital!

I have a unique story for each of my students. I am always thrilled to gain more students, because that means -- more stories!
