Whether or not you are new to painting or want to get back into it after many years away and just need some feedback and a new perspective I am here to help. I have been teaching painting for 20 years and I’ve worked with students of all ages, from young adults to retirees. I teach painting using the classical method of observation (meaning, based on what they see). You will also learn how do use color as it reflects the temperature of the light and shadows like the impressionists. I will show you a lot of different artists for inspiration and to teach you how to glean the best from history. I recommend working from direct observation at first (a still life rather than a photo of a still life). You can expect to learn a lot about color for me, about the structure of light and shadow and how it helps create realism but also compose a really great looking paintings. I adjust my approach to teaching as I get to know each student and what learning style connects best with them.
The most fabulous thing about being an artist is that boundaries regarding creativity are non-existent. The artist is always in a state of learning. Art is a progressive practice that takes time to develop. Students will be introduced to the color wheel, basic materials needed, perspective, and the differences between realistic and impressionistic painting techniques. Materials are not included. Acrylic painting lessons will be assessed based on the individual's current abilities and their goals. The students main objective is to learn, by painting what the individual wishes to paint (personal projects that sparks and continues the creativity within). Note: For virtual sessions, the student will need to create a conducive workspace that will allow teacher/student viewing of art work in progress. The student will need a workspace with lots of light. Often, I will ask to see the students progress, so that I may be able critique and give advise on their work in progress. For short-term sessions (virtual or in-person), the teacher and student will collaborate and determine how the student will get the most out of their session. NOTE: THERE ARE NO IN-PERSON LESSONS DURING THE WINTER MONTHS (DECEMBER - MARCH)
