I am a professional musician with eight years of teaching experience in both voice and piano lessons. My students include a range of levels and ages who vary in musical aspirations and backgrounds. My students are given every opportunity to become well-rounded, performing musicians when studying with me. I am a friendly, open-minded, enthusiastic musician who loves teaching others!

About Elise
I am a professional, classically trained soprano with a love for theater and the arts! In addition to being a performer, I also love teaching music lessons. My private vocal studio includes a range of students from young children to adults, who vary in musical aspirations and sing in many different styles, including opera, art song, jazz, blues, pop, and musical theater. My students have gone on to sing on Broadway, pursue music and theater degrees, compete and win competitions. I have extensive training and knowledge of proper vocal use, as well as a passion for teaching my students self expression through music. My students are given every opportunity to become well-rounded, performing musicians, and my goal is to give students the tools to become life long, passionate musicians themselves!

After reviewing instructor profiles, we rolled the dice (trusted our gut), and selected Elise to give private instruction to our 10-year-old daughter. I am so glad we took the risk! Elise is kind, patient, and encouraging, yet structured, prepared, and skilled. Our daughter was struggling with confidence and attempting to imitate other singers, rather than learning basic techniques to bring out the best quality of her voice. Time with Elise has been worth the investment as our daughter is maturing in her attitude and diligence about practicing. I would highly recommend Elise as an instructor for any age.

My approach is fun, simple, and easy to understand. I focus on getting a strong foundation and excellent first experience with music. The child will be given a lesson and theory book to work from, but will also be encouraged to play music they personally like. This keeps the child motivated to play and adds an element of fun! These songs can then be used in our recitals, for auditions, or put in their personal repertoire book.

About Valerie
Hi there! My name is Valerie. I'm a certified music teacher that loves to see a person grow in their love and ability for music. With 19 years of teaching privately, experience teaching publicly in elementary school music classrooms, enjoying several years as a Kindermusik (preschool music) teacher, and a school year teaching with VSA arts of Delaware (teaching music to those with disabilities), I find it thrilling to see a person of any age & background grow and blossom in their passion for music!

Though I enjoy and have experience at teaching all ages from children to adults, I specialize in teaching ages 5-19. I would describe myself as a preschool/elementary/middle school music teacher that teaches privately. ;) My studio is filled with many smiles, stickers for every accomplishment, and a treasure box of cool prizes for tho
se who are practicing regularly and did a great job in their lesson. Lessons are a time where children can feel like music really is fun and enjoyable to learn and experience!

In addition to being a teacher, I am also a singer/songwriter, and performed for 6 years at local coffee shops and outdoor events within Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey. I am also a member of a local professional caroling group called Yuletide Singers which performs seasonally in places like Longwood Gardens and corporate functions. My history for performing stretches back, though, to my years as a puppeteer/children's performer, touring with a team doing school assemblies and evening family performances. I'm always excited to bring my understanding and experience with performance to my students!

**And, with excitement, I must add that TakeLessons named me "Teacher of the Week" on October 4, 2010! What a great honor! Thank you TakeLessons!!**

*** Lesson Details ***
Our time spent together will be filled with many smiles & laughs because that is probably why you want to take lessons -- because it makes you feel wonderful inside!

Within 3-6 months, we'll begin discovering how to read music and understand the language of it. We'll learn how to play/sing some of your favorite songs and learn some that you might not know. We'll discover what you really want to learn and achieve through taking lessons, and we'll work toward those goals!

For the intermediate piano student, we will begin understanding basic Music Theory and scales and will even take a look at how chord symbols work. Soon, you'll be learning how to accompany yourself and others as you sing! For singers, we'll learn about vocal techniques, breathing, getting your best vocal sound and discovering how to take a song to its potential! We'll also learn performance techniques, how to work with a microphone, have a great stage presence in front of a live audience and begin learning how to read music and even get familiar with the piano keyboard! For all my students, it's a journey that is exciting, unique to each individual, and one we will embark on together!

Because music is a performing art, I coordinate two music recitals each school year for students who are interested. This is an optional event, but is encouraged as part of the learning experience. It is usually held at a local firehall and presented in a low-stress and fun way with refreshments that follow!

*My studio is in a safe, family-friendly home & smoke-free environment. We also having a loving canine member in our family... a Yellow Labrador Retriever named Maximus. He is energetic and friendly. You may or may not see him since the entrance to my studio is through our back door, off the main house.

So! What do you say? Shall we START THE MUSIC? :)

Find me on Facebook: Valerie Bailey Music, for more photos of my fun recitals!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons are enjoyed in a dedicated music room; keyboard (full-size with weighted keys and sustain pedal)

*** Specialties ***
*Teachers classified as a Student Favorite have taught a minimum of 25
lessons and have received the highest feedback rating from students.

I specialize in music education for all children, including ones with special needs. I feel it is so important for a child to start out with a fun and wonderful experience with music and performing. My approach is simple and fun and understandable for the young mind.

For my more intermediate students, I enjoy taking them to the next level of understanding in their instrument as well as music theory.

Because music is a performing art, I coordinate two music recitals each year for students who are interested. This is an optional event and presented in a low-stress and fun way!

I’m trained to teach beginner piano, if you are a student just starting out and want to learn the basics and be able to play simple easy songs, I can get you where you want to be.

About Brandon
I am a Rutgers University graduate with a B.A in Music Performance. I have played guitar for over 10 years, and currently perform all over the tri-state area as a solo acoustic performer and songwriter. I also play in several rock bands. I teach several students ages 5-65 right now, and have taught students how to play guitar for several years. In addition to playing in a rock band, I also am well versed in many music styles including jazz, pop, country and acoustic, songwriting, performance, music theory and recording skills/production.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very flexible teacher and suit my teaching style and format to fit each specific student's interests and needs. My goal is to keep the student interested and make learning guitar a fun experience.

I like to find out the kind of music the student listens to, or what
they want to get out of playing guitar, and then mold my teaching around that. For instance, if a student or parent wants a formal musical education, I will teach how to read music notes and teach them from a book. If the student wants to learn simple songs and be able to play around the campfire for fun, I make sure to guide the student toward doing just that.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Dedicated lesson space. Guitars. Music stands. Music books. Seating for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide my own instruments I would require them to have te instrument they want to learn available and the necessary power source and amp if needed.

*** Specialties ***
Rock country jazz mainly though I know classical music theory as well as counterpoint etc

As an alternative to traditional piano teaching, I offer non-notation themed lessons often utilizing lead sheets and photos to any students who prefer to learn with out the constraints of a course book.

About Mark
Learning music, especially at a young age, can have a positive impact in life. From simply playing at home to performing for large audiences, the goal I have for my students is the same: the enjoyment of being a proficient musician. I have written a bit about my experience and how I can use this to help you to become a great musician.
I began studying music when I was 8 years old. My early lessons taught me not only about music but about music teaching. Now as a music teacher myself, I vow to construct my lessons in a way that offers my students interesting material, multiple teaching methods, and realistic objectives set in an entertaining meaningful dialogue.
In high school, I played in bands with my friends. Thus, I can never stress how important it is to play with o
ther people. I always encourage my students to form an band, join music groups in school, or just find a friend to jam with. Not only does this raise the level of musicality, it is a great motivational tool.
After high school, I studied music at Colorado State University, where I focused on jazz and classical performance, theory, and pedagogy. I earned a bachelor of arts in music from Colorado State University in 2000. In 2011, I earned a Master's degree in Music Theory form Temple University.
I have been a professional musician for 19 years in diverse genres such as rock, pop, classical, jazz, and electronic. I have performed in the U.S. and Europe, and I have won various awards in performance and academics. Although I enjoy a busy career in music, I am committed to teaching the young and casual learner as well as professionally oriented individuals. I am also enthusiastic towards the education and development of talent.
My home studio is equipped with guitars, basses, keyboards, amplifiers, and digital recording equipment. I am knowledgeable in audio and midi recording through the use of software.
I look forward to sharing these skills with you or a member of your family.

*** Lesson Details ***
Although the procedure can vary depending on the instrument, my lessons often take the following steps:

Warm-up Performance of an assignment Instruction and Practice Performance
Instruction on a new assignment

In a typical lesson, we may take a look at a piece of music through an audio or video recording. After a brief listening, we discuss and examine the music. For example, this could be as simple as asking, "What do think about this part?" or more technical - "What's the time signature?" Next, we focus on a specific part to learn. The student makes attempts, observes demonstrations, ands listens to suggestions and instruction. I try to incorporate many different teaching methods while being mindful of different learning styles to ensure that the student is successful in assimilating and understanding the material. Finally, when the student has become sufficiently proficient on a piece of music, we'll play it together as a team. Sometimes, I accompany a vocalist on guitar instead of piano to get a different feel. For my guitar or bass students, I trade between lead and accompany roles. I may bring percussion instruments into the lesson. The idea is to change things up and have fun playing music.
People often ask if I am strict or laid back. I say I am neither. Through enthusiasm, focus, and motivation, the lesson time whizzes by before we know it!
Lastly, I never ask my students to copy anyone. I encourage my them to be original. The music I give them is only a guide. I want them to do what is in their hearts.

I've been teaching piano for 7 years and my students have gone on to perform recitals confidently and pass music theory exams. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to learn the basic foundation of playing and as time goes on you'll be able to play more challenging works. I specialize in classical music, typically use the Alfred books for children, and Czerny exercise books for young adults. and have the following tools available for your lessons: Upright PIano, Metronome. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Derick
I have been teaching private lessons since 2008 and am currently available to teach lessons at my private home studio. I've helped students develop as solo pianists, prepare them for music theory exams, and have a greater appreciation for classical music.

I have studied under 3 professional classically trained pianists, Helen Yip, Donna Kwong, and the wife of Yin Chengzong who have coached and mentored me, pushing my ability as a performance based solo pianist.

A student under my tutelage will benefit with my ability to teach piano at all levels with an encouraging mindset. I understand there is a balance between working hard at developing a new skill and having fun with it too!

***Personal Expectations***
I have a very Zen approach to teaching and am flexible with students. I look forward to setting short, smart and attainabl
e goals to scaffold learning. Challenges are opportunities to grow from and I welcome those warmly who are open to learning a new craft.

Most importantly I am passionate about music education and always want the best for my students! Whether you are a parent trying to introduce music to your child or an adult who has always been curious to learn, I just appreciate the opportunity to teach piano.

I make it a priority to get to know my students outside of music education. I've had many experiences working with youth as a mentor during my service as AmeriCorps City Year member for the past 2 years, where I've built bonds with students and teammates and help them push for greater academic achievement. I have a very calm and patient personality, open to many personal view points. I seek to understand first, which aids me in my ability to teach piano with an open heart and open mind.

*** Lesson Details ***
Beginner students will be introduced to the basic foundation of music theory and piano structure as a way to lay the basic groundwork necessary to progress further in skill level.

Intermediate level students will focus on developing finger dexterity techniques and play more challenging pieces. This will setup the student to be able to play more advanced works down the road.

Advanced students will focus on technicality and bringing out the expressiveness of a piece, and understanding the complexities behind interpreting it with their own style.

Curriculum will be based on a student's experience and exercise books/pieces will be assigned accordingly to the student's level of progression.

For example: a Beginner student will start with the Alfred books and an Intermediate student will be guided towards working on finger dexterity by working with exercise books from the likes of Carl Czerny and Hanon.

*** Studio Equipment ***
-Upright electric Yamaha Piano with pedal action. It has 88 keys and stands up well to any performance level.

I get excited when I see my students learn enjoy playing something new. I love music more than anything else and that love is something I try to bring out in my students. Once there is l

He is also exceptionally patient and supportive with my 9-year-old, highly distractible daughter. David is very positive, pointing out things that are going well and interesting rhythms that they discover.
