Though our experience with Jiawei was brief (just three lessons as a summer fill-in for our regular teacher), our daughter very much enjoyed working with her. Jiawei is certainly someone we would pursue as a regular teacher if we had that need.

I had a great experience because Catherine is an amazing instructor.
She taught lessons with a high degree of professionalism and care. As a novice, I was able to learn a lot because Catherine was patient and attentive to my learning style.

My two oldest children (one more advanced in piano than the other) began taking lessons with Catherine just this year. They have both shown significant improvement and love her as an instructor. They also look forward to practicing in between lessons. We could not be happier.
Naoko
Great artist and a teacher. My 6 year old enjoys her lessons and I love her down to earth vibe.

I play and teach many styles of music, from classical to folk music, swing, improv, blues, and rock, and I've been playing violin for over 30 years, so anything a student wants to learn is possible with me! I listen to each student with patience and presence, helping them master the techniques they know and showing them how to advance. I'm an open book for my students, happy to answer any question they might have. My years of experience give me a deep reservoir of lesson plans to draw from, and can plan out a student's whole development with them.

I have been playing both violin and viola for 10 years, and I specialize in any experience level of students. I am highly trained in music theory, technique, and improvisation, and whether you want to learn basic technique, play a Bach sonata, or learn how to improvise over changes in a complex tune, I can help! I am very open to any ideas and desires my students have, and I strive to make learning music both fun and rewarding for the student. I absolutely loved my viola lessons with Will! He began by asking questions and asking me to play a few things to gauge what level I was at. I came into these lessons after not having played for 15 years. He was very encouraging and very positive. I asked him to help me with my form in order to gain a better foundation, and he did so well at focusing on that and giving me such helpful pointers. He plays the viola and it was good to hear some of his experience. I also loved learning more of the background and history of the type of music and the techniques we went over. I feel like that adds so much depth to the learning experience. He is very knowledgeable as well as personable. He also never wasted any time during our lessons. He was very good at pacing us so we could get through the different things I had practiced, and yet I didn't feel rushed at all. I would highly recommend Will to anyone (no matter your level)! I was very pleased with my experience and will definitely seek him out for future lessons.

Hello, my name is Tal and playing the violin has been my biggest passion since 2001. For the past several years teaching has became one too, and I would love to work with you and help you reach your musical goals.
During the lessons, I will do my best to make the learning experience as productive, fun and challenging as possible. Whether you are a beginner or advanced student, we will work on your technical abilities, finding your own musical ideas and how to make them really come out (which is the best part, of course!). An additional value that comes with studying a musical instrument is the development of your problem solving skills: if you want to practice productively, you must ask yourself the right questions, and then use the knowledge you have to come up with solutions. During our lessons, you will find yourself asking and answering questions, so you are as prepared as possible to be an independent violinist.
I look forward to working with you!

About Tal

I began my violin studies in 2001. As I grew up, I continued my studies at Thelma Yellin School of Arts and later on at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music. Every student is unique, so I will tailor the lessons to you and make it fun! I'm passing on to you the training I received from the very best master teachers of the violin. Stringed instruments are challenging, but I believe in enjoying making music at every level, while establishing a strong foundation in good technique. For learning fundamentals of music theory and ear training, we will play various rhythm and improvisational games. I have extensive background in European classical music, and I've also done quite a bit of improvisation, some fiddling, and electric violin and viola. Whether you want to be the next Joshua Bell or the next Lindsey Stirling, I can help you improve your playing. I will help you sing, dance and tell a story through your violin or viola.

About Gloria

Born into a musical family in 1966, I have extensive performance experience as a classical violinist and violist, and I've been composing my own music since 2000. I am very grateful to have studied with some of the finest teachers of violin, viola and chamber music, and I graduated in 1990 from th

Gloria has been a wonderful and inspiring teacher over a period of very formative years for me as a violinist. We first worked together for all 4 years of my undergraduate violin performance degree at Mills College from 2010-14, and Gloria helped me develop a lasting appreciation for listening deeply and developing focus for small details. We worked together on everything from solo Bach and Hindemith sonatas to concertos, chamber music, and orchestral excerpts. She has been a lasting influence in my life as a musician, and I will continue to return for musical and creative advice over the years even when I live far away.

Anyway, she works with me and I practice like crazy and somehow am coming to feel like, hey, maybe I can actually learn to play violin!

I highly recommend her. I have enjoyed and learned a lot from each lesson so far"
