I play and teach alto, tenor and baritone saxophone. I focus on getting my students to play in tune. Tone production is the first step. If you have a good tone people will listen to you. I work with tuners continually. My students are able to sound good immediately and that is crucial in their development.

Sound is the key. Developing and nurturing a solid sound opens up all other aspects of music. Once we have a solid sound we can depend on everything we play is more effective.
I teach basic musicianship along with advanced sound production techniques.
Spontaneous creation and composition. I can help you freely improvise in any situation and become a functionary player as well as a soloist.

About Dave

I have been playing the saxophone fro 45 years. I think its all about the sound, the tone. I played with the Microscopic Septet and William Parker's Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra.

Over the course of 10 years teaching experience, I have gained tremendous success teaching saxophone to students young and old. I have taught in conservatories as well as privately, and have refined my methods of teaching the passionate rigor which music demands.

I currently have a private studio where I teach, on 72nd Street in Manhattan. I can also travel to your home. I teach Classical and Klezmer music, to kids and adults who have never played an instrument before, as well as advanced players. I also teach theory.

I am a devoted teacher, and over so many years, I feel what I have to offer my students has grown exponentially. I know how to work with individuals on their own terms, and have a good sense of how my own playing can help inspire and guide my students.

Very nice, patient, skilled.

Studying with Naum I not developed my musicality tremendously, while still focusing on technical aspects of playing. He is a patient, inspiring instructor. My little brother (13) studied with Naum for three years and is now playing at a level above many his age. What I appreciate the most about Naum's approach, is his ability to adapt to his student's individual needs and abilities. I always felt my lessons were made for me, and this helped me grow very quickly as a musician. I should also add that Naum is a fantastically talented player, and very moving to hear in concert.

"The lesson was for my grandson who is 13. It is difficult for him to focus, but he seemed to follow Randall for the entire lesson. He was introduced to quite a bit of information. This next week will provide information on what he is able to retain. For my part, I was pleased with the bits of musical history that Randall imparted, so I am receiving benefit from listening in."

"Excellent

My son Nicholas, 10 yrs old, has been taking saxophone lessons with Imraan for about a month. Searching for a young motivated teacher who is up to date with todays music is very difficult. My fear was for Nicholas to get discouraged in his saxophone playing and music with a non motivated instructor.
Imraan has been the perfect match for Nick. He is not only an excellent saxophone player but a great instructor. He motivates my son with his saxophone playing, has patients with his teachings and with kids, is up to date with todays music and most important, my son cant wait for his next lesson.

Imraan, Im glad we met you and look forward to hearing my son play in concert with you someday."
