"Everyone should have and play a Uke. It's so simple to carry with you and it is one instrument you can't play and not laugh! It's so sweet and also very old--some are made of wood--some are made of armadillo's. I love them. The more the merrier. Everyone I know who is into the Uke is crackers. So get yourself a few and enjoy yourself."--George Harrison

I especially enjoy introducing beginners of all ages to the ukulele, which was my first musical passion as a young child! These days, my passion is working with my students in ways that prepare them to pursue their musical interests armed with correct posture and hand position, foundational technique, music-reading capabilities, and what I call the "building blocks" of music: knowledge of functional music theory and how to use it.
"Functional music theory" can sound daunting, but in fact it is fascinating, at least the way I teach it, using analogies appropriate to the age of the student, from chords like different types of sandwiches (yum!) to chord progressions like the materials and equipment used to build a house.
I also encourage my students from the start to EXPRESS themselves musically, emotionally, playfully, in ways that keep their imaginations engaged in their musical studies, rather than private lessons becoming stressful or tedious.
Note that young beginners ...

The Ukulele is such a fun instrument to play. It's a small instrument with a big sound. There is actually 4 different sizes you can choose from: Soprano, Concert, Tenor, and Baritone. The first 3 have the same string arrangement which is
G, C, E, A, and the Baritone is D, G, B, E, which is the same tuning as the first 4 strings on a guitar. Soprano is the smallest and the Baritone is the largest. If you want the true Hawaiian sound you need the Soprano. If you have really big hands or thick fingers you might want to go with the Concert or Tenor size so it will be easier to play.
They are very affordable instruments. The one I have is a Fender U Uke it was around 109.00. It's easier then guitar because you don't have to press down as hard on the strings.
Some of my favorite Ukulele players and bands that incorporate it are Jack Johnson, Brian May from Queen, Beach Boys, Elvis, Israel Iz, and many more.
I teach beginner to intermediate level for single and group lessons.

Having trouble learning chords on the ukulele? Here are some tips from ukulele teacher Willy M. that will help you master playing chords... Sometimes chords can be tricky to learn on any stringed instrument, and the ukulele is no exception. The good news is that with its nylon strings, a fewer number of strings, and a limited fret-board, learning ukulele chords is a little bit simpler than learning guitar chords. Nonetheless, there are still a few important things to keep in mind …
