I have been teaching piano for many years and my skill set focuses on helping students gain a solid technique with the piano.
Having a jazz/ pop background, my piano skills are also proficient in chord structure playing.
I have had students of all ages and abilities. For my students under an adolescent age, I like to use fun books and games to help them learn and provide the lesson with a fun & child-friendly approach. For my adult students, I believe that it is important to establish goals and be realistic about their expectations.
I am a graduate of The University of The arts with a BA in music performance. The University of The Arts has allowed me to gain a reputable amount of performance and educational work. In my training at the University was able to concentrate on many styles of performance such as classical technique as well as Broadway and jazz. With that in mind, it is also important to stay current on today’s music as well. Music has allowed me to travel the world with various groups and perform with musicals greats like the Philly Pops, bassist Gerald Veasly and the great Bernard “Pretty “ Purdie. I have taught voice and piano for high school students entering college for music. My experience in teaching is not only with high school students but spans all ages. After completing college I continued my training with Mrs. Jackie’s Piano Fun Class for
ages 4-6. This gave me confidence to complete training for The Music Class and various other infant and toddlers music programs. Currently I have many adult students, some learning for performance reasons and others to just have fun with playing. One of my theory’s behind music training is “you must love the music you play”. It may be something new but always something for you.
*** Lesson Details *** Motivation and commitment are important in my lessons. I believe with these two things and proper encouragement for your teacher every student is a winner! I like to start my lesson by assessing what skills and goals each student has or would like to reach for within their lesson. It also important to talk about you expectations for me as the teacher and what tools you will need going forward. (Music books, songs, tape recording etc…). I lessons to be enjoyable but also productive. I use lots of games and techniques to help each student learn
*** Studio Equipment *** Piano and microphone

Lauren was very skillful at what she does and this conveys well in the lessons with her. I learned a lot from Lauren in my time with her but I would prefer the lessons to be a little more organized. All in all a good experience, Thank you Lauren.
January 6, 2015
Lauren is the real deal. Point blank period. I initially signed up for singing lessons, but she has helped me with piano, music theory, and other skills as well. She has a much more wholesome approach for developing as an artist than simply a linear "sing these notes" type of lesson.
Lauren is a good balance of stern and silly. She has a great sense of humor, so I feel comfortable singing & playing for her (even if my skills are limited and sound like a dying horse). However, that doesn't mean you just goof around. She takes it very seriously and pushes you as a student. I couldn't recommend Lauren more.
Students in studio range from age 5 to ( my eldest both beginners 93, and 84. (Frances I teach on-line) , is 3. and Faith just turned 4 And I have three And my eldest is 94) I currently teach out of 7 different method books , I love variety, lessons will be customer to your learning style and goals. There are many opportunities to perform, just had outdoor cafe recital in a student’s backyard, great fun! I love music, education, and people, a winning trio. Music degree from Lawrence University and Conservatory in Appleton, WI. Graduate work in conducting, piano, and vocal pedagogy at Westminster Choir College in Princeton. Also certified in Kindermusik for ages newborn to 7.
My studio, since 1993 is located in the back of my house and is in a family friendly location.
As my education originally was music education, elementary and secondary, I have gone on to be certified in teaching adults, both beginning and returning. There is so much piano and vocal educational material geared to the pre-school, the elementary, Jr-Sr high and Adult beginner and I promise we will have fun while learning.....
Anyone can learn an instrument and anyone can learn many different styles. Lessons will be geared toward your interests and goals, which we can work on at your lesson also.
test virtues of a music teacher are passion, patience, understanding, and communicating. You will experience this in the studio. Give yourself a treat of two months of lessons and I promise you will be playing and/or singing better than you expected.
Member of MTNA (Music Teachers National Association), NFMC (National Federation of Music Clubs), NJFMC (NJ Fed. of Music Clubs). MENC (Music Ed National Conference),
*** Lesson Details *** I am generally easy going and laid-back and will work with you to obtain specific goals such as a piece you would really like to learn. I can be strict if assignments are not followed or if there is no progression; we need to analyze why that is. I use many teaching methods as there are many different learning styles. The series I am currently using are Faber, Alfred, and Celebrate Piano! for pianists. Many singers are in Broadway, Disney, and/or English Reliquary and Italian Arias. There are so many wonderful choices! I can guarantee after three months you will be playing some music you like, and you will be reading music, and able to perform if you wish (starting small). With singing you will have basic knowledge of proper posture, breathing, and increased range. I also so enjoy people and communicating so you will feel comfortable taking lessons, and I believe that is one major factor of success in learning an instrument: the student-teacher relationship And second for children, especially the young, is the parent-teacher relationship .
*** Studio Equipment *** Studio: Yamaha baby grand piano, Kawaii studio upright and keyboard, Yamaha keyboard, recording abilities, computer software, couch and two chairs, parents can sit in on lesson. Also have computer programs for note learning, composition, as well as giving you apps to download.
*** Specialties *** Different methods for different students. Piano: mostly Faber and Alfred series. "Prodigy": Aaron/Thompson series. I've also had graduate study in teaching the Adult Beginner! As I was a church music director 1994 till last September, I am very familiar with traditional and contemporary sacred music, learning and performing. If you also wish to combine singing and accompanying yourself on piano or guitar lessons can be tailored.
I’m trained to teach beginner piano, if you are a student just starting out and want to learn the basics and be able to play simple easy songs, I can get you where you want to be.
I am a Rutgers University graduate with a B.A in Music Performance. I have played guitar for over 10 years, and currently perform all over the tri-state area as a solo acoustic performer and songwriter. I also play in several rock bands. I teach several students ages 5-65 right now, and have taught students how to play guitar for several years. In addition to playing in a rock band, I also am well versed in many music styles including jazz, pop, country and acoustic, songwriting, performance, music theory and recording skills/production.
*** Lesson Details *** I am a very flexible teacher and suit my teaching style and format to fit each specific student's interests and needs. My goal is to keep the student interested and make learning guitar a fun experience.
I like to find out the kind of music the student listens to, or what
they want to get out of playing guitar, and then mold my teaching around that. For instance, if a student or parent wants a formal musical education, I will teach how to read music notes and teach them from a book. If the student wants to learn simple songs and be able to play around the campfire for fun, I make sure to guide the student toward doing just that.
*** Studio Equipment *** Dedicated lesson space. Guitars. Music stands. Music books. Seating for parents.
*** Travel Equipment *** I provide my own instruments I would require them to have te instrument they want to learn available and the necessary power source and amp if needed.
*** Specialties *** Rock country jazz mainly though I know classical music theory as well as counterpoint etc
I teach students who have no prior music training or who have taken a break from lessons and want to progress in their ability to play piano.
Learn to love playing the piano from the inside out--by understanding the fundamentals so you can create and recreate music for personal enjoyment and to share with others. Joining children, youth, and adults in developing your musical talents and gifts is my privelege. I teach beginner-intermediate piano students. I tailor the focus and styles of music to your needs and preferences and include training for success.
I am a life-long musician with a music degree (vocal and keyboards) from Messiah College. I also direct the music and worship ministries for my congregation.
*** Lesson Details *** Lessons are 1/2 hour to 1 hour a week and include music theory, piano technique, and performance songs. Please make sure the student has ready access to a keyboard or piano and has a scheduled 20-30 minute practice time every day. Learning to
play the piano well is a long-term commitment of several years.
I strive for a positive, friendly atmosphere, with praise for incremental progress and encouragement for areas of improvement. Students use the Alfred series and other supplements, graded to the student's age, ability and interests.
*** Studio Equipment *** Home- studio in a large living room with spacious seating for parents
*** Specialties *** I teach a well-rounded approach, combining technique, theory, and songs from various musical styles in a graded, graduated progression. Then I supplement with additional music according to the interests and advancing ability of the student to play the piano.
Sharon is an amazing teacher! Talented, kind, funny, and patient! I can't wait for my next lesson.

Helped me step up my playing
I had been teaching myself piano for many years when I reached a point where I was not improving and realized I needed a teacher. Sharon helped me work on my weaknesses as a musician and had a good eye for pieces that helped me build on my strengths. We always had fun working together, and she was always good about working around my busy schedule.
April 26, 2012
Sharon is doing a great job, she is well organized and knows what she's doing. I am pleased that she gives my daughter concrete feedbck and lessons to practice at home. The only problem is my daughter could use a little more practice time with her.
I bring more than thirty years of experience in teaching piano to students of every age and level. My lessons are tailored to each student's level and comprehension. I use a comprehensive approach to teaching piano incorporating technique development, learning of theory, piano performance and sight reading. In my lessons, I select and combine music from different music periods and styles. I also help students who want to obtain certificates from Associated Board of Royal School of Music (ABRSM) or Trinity College London (TCL) to excel in these examinations.
I have played piano since I was six years old, when my parents enrolled me in my first music classes. I continued my music education while going to elementary, middle, and high school. Ultimately, I graduated with a Master's Degree in Music from Butler University, located in Indianapolis, Indiana
Music has been one of my greatest passions since I was a little girl, and teaching it is my favorite way to share my love of music. I teach students of all ages and skill levels from early beginners to experienced piano players who want to bring their performance to a higher level.
I emphasize piano technique, musicianship, performance skills and music history. But I also use piano lessons to help my students develop life skills, such as concentration, focus, poise and discipline. I love to see my students to build confidence and self-este
When I began taking piano lessons with Ruth, I had some elementary experience playing instruments years ago. I am an older adult student and although I hesitated initially to start learning again, I am very happy that I did start taking piano with Ruth. She understands exactly my strong and weak points and suggests better ways for me to practice. She is patient, tactful and encouraging and helps me working on my technique. I've been enjoying my classes with Ruth immensely. And I've been enjoying listening to her playing as well. Any time, at the end of our class, I ask her to play a different piece for me, she does it beautifully. I can highly recommend Ruth for children and adults alike.
September 7, 2016
Ruth quickly tailored the lesson based on my experience level, and helped me so much in just 30 minutes! I look forward to our subsequent lessons.
July 1, 2016
I took 5 lessons with Ruth for 5 weeks., and it has been a great experience! Ruth is an engaging, encouraging, and friendly teacher. My goal was to learn the basics to play piano and she was really helpful for me to teach effectively in 5 classes.

Pianist, music director, and vocal coach, Erik was born and raised in Eastern Washington state. As a solo pianist, he has been heard all across the northwest and beyond, in cities including Seattle, Portland, Tacoma, NYC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Philadelphia, and internationally in Prague and Salzburg. Erik has been a guest artist at Whitman College, Portland State University, The Kairos Chamber Music Lyceum, California State University Summer Arts, the West Seattle Symphony, and the Gig-Harbor Peninsula Symphony Orchestra. In addition to performing, Erik’s passion for teaching has led him to be an adjudicator for various festivals including the Washington Sonata-Sonatina Festival and the Washington Regional Solo and Ensemble Festival.
Erik most recently served as the Music Director for the National Tour of Kander and Ebb's tim
eless musical Cabaret. This production was on tour from December 2017 through May 2018 all across North America. Broadway.com's review praised the musicianship of the show, "Musical director Erik Flaten's musicians are impressive in their dexterity: At one moment, they are providing rich interpretations of the memorable John Kander score, while perhaps at the next they are playing denizens of the Kit Kat Klub or neighborhood thugs, wastrels and other folks of questionable repute. Flaten and his band are given their own richly deserved moments in the spotlight at the top of Act Two and the music director himself is given the well-earned final bow at the end of the curtain call."
Erik currently resides in Philadelphia, where he coaches and plays for a diverse range of singers. In addition to coaching and playing, Erik works as Music Director for musical theater, manages a private studio, and serves as Artistic Director of the Media Performing Arts Series. Previous successes include performances with mezzo-soprano, Angela Niederloh and baritone, Matthew Hayward in Portland, and a performance of the Grieg piano concerto with the West Seattle Symphony. Upcoming engagements on the East Coast include collaborative work with with soprano, Leah Golub.
Students of Erik have the opportunities to perform in studio recitals and workshops.

very good.. She appreciated what I already knew, and corrected me honestly. This in turn helped in open up to her and accept her teaching and instructions better. Gave me practice material, and gave me some very sound advice.

Kirsty is extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. A great combination for selecting her as a teacher, since I am adult with zero music experience. She is providing an excellent foundation and a fun learning experience as well.
Aleksis is an awesome piano teacher. I have taken lessons from him for 3 years. His method is fun and effective. He adjusts his teaching s
tyle based on how you learn and how you want to play. I know this because he also taught my husband guitar and did some sessions with our niece and nephew when they were visiting. He is great with kids with his very positive and fun approach."
"As a retiree who has recently returned to piano after a decades-long hiatus, I knew I’d need a teacher with experience teaching adults. Semyon is proving
to be excellent. He is a skilled musician and teacher whose approach combines enjoyable piano pieces, exercises for agility and the fundamentals of scales and theory. He is patient and responsive to what I want to accomplish. I have learned in each lesson, seen improvement each week, and enjoy the diversity of assignments. In short, i’m having a grand time and highly recommend him."
