About Jocelyn
I received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Frostburg State University. The piano was my main instrument of study. I have taught piano lessons to people of various ages. I believe that anyone can learn how to play the piano.

Music is an experience that can help boost one's self-esteem. It can bring healing and peace.

*** Lesson Details ***
People consider me a patient and "laid back" piano teacher. I understand the challenges of learning how to play the piano. Students are free to ask questions. To get the best out of a lesson, practice is a must. Method books are used throughout the lesson, and students are encouraged to practice whatever they learn during the lesson. Students will learn songs and exercises according to their level.

I hope to promote a peaceful and calm musical experience for every stud
ent.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students are encouraged to have their own piano or keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
I generally use an age appropriate method book for each student. The main method I like to use is the Alfred's Basic Piano Library. I also add supplemental music, or music of interest as the student progresses.

Jocelyn, has been working with my daughter for about a year. She is very patient and encouraging. The most important thing when I chose to use Takelessons.com was to ensure that those offering their services truly enjoyed their gift. Jocelyn has that gift and she is so enthusiastic about music!!! Highly recommend her for children as well as first time adults!!! Thanks

Jocelyn is very encouraging and understanding. As an older student who had not played regularly for years, she assured me that I really could re- learn the piano.

Gabrielle has a really fun personality, which only helps to compliment her piano skill. Not only that, but she is very flexible on scheduling, and understands that things can come up from time to time for either the student or the teacher. With this expectation in mind, her lessons really make the most of the 30 minutes allotted, and her skills show as she helps you step through each measure. I've taken piano lessons before, quite some time ago, and Gabrielle was quickly able to adapt the lesson to what I already knew versus what I had to re-learn or learn for the first time. Definitely recommend!

I would have described how 'passionate' Gabbi is about violin but unfortunately never had that opportunity. I had scheduled the class 10 days in advance and on the day of the class Gabbi decided to shoot an email couple hours before saying she can't make it.
A dollar is minute is a very decent compensation which I don't make as an engineer with 7 years of college education. But unfortunately that didn't inspire enough professionalism in Gabbi. Maybe she reserves her professionalism for few people and not for everyone.

Perfect first session. Michael adapted to Rory's deep understanding of music theory but total lack of knowledge of the bass. He was thoughtful, patient, and adaptive introducing the bass and providing practice suggestions to Rory. I recommend Michael in the highest terms as an instructor for beginners and knowing his vast education and experience in the bass I must assume this travels though the entire range of students - beginner to advanced. We look forward to the next lesson.

I have worked with and seen Marie Hinds' work over the past 8 years. Not only has she taught children and adults of all ages, she has fostered an intrinsic love for music which is at the soul of any artists' teaching. I have seen Pre-K students identify the different families of instruments to performing songs in different languages under her guidance. She knows how to meet a child.or an adult at their ability level and challenge them enough to help them advance and learn songs they dreamed of mastering! I highly recommend Marie Hinds as a music teacher of singing, gospel singing, piano and reading music. She is also a highly experienced reading teacher. She incorporates her knowledge of reading foundations to translate to reading and learning music. You will receive a holistic approach to music education under Marie Hinds.

About John
What I enjoy most about teaching piano:

The opportunity to transform the piano into more than a box with buttons, but rather a device capable of communicating every human emotion in limitless ways, that is, if our physical bodies are up to the task.

Let me explain:

As a musician who takes great care of his health through a range of physical activities & sound (pun intended) nutrition, I'm a firm believer that playing the piano requires tremendous physical control, dexterity, and poise.

This notion is constantly proven true again and again when I give lessons to children and adults who are engaged in sports or any other physical training outside of studying music. Because they are in good shape, they can demand much more from their bodies. This instantly heightens their overall musicianship and individual artistic expression.

My approach to piano lessons simply put is: How do we form as close a physical bond as possible between the instrument and student? In terms of piano, I achieve this by training the student's hands to move; in the best way; in the right way; in the most healthiest way; in an athletic way.

Now, you *do not* have to be an athlete to see results. My point is= I take an athletic position in terms of teaching piano.

I fully understand music theory, chords, scales and rhythm. So does every other teacher.

What most other teachers do not know is=
How to teach students to move at the piano.

This specifically is what separates me from 95 percent of piano teachers.

Overall point= If we did not have a body with which to move, we would not be able to make any music at all. So on a fundamental level, your body is the first thing that needs to be trained when learning a new instrument.

I casually play piano and tried teaching my daughters but classic parent-child teaching troubles was straining our relationship. Then Erin came along and both of my girls blossomed in their playing! She is patient and creative in connecting with the girls in ways that make sense to them. They also got to play in a recital and I couldn’t be prouder of them. Erin really is a gem!!!

My children absolutely love Mrs. Tenney! They have taken lessons from her for a couple of years now and she has shared with them the joy of playing piano. She is patient and positive, flexible and so good at finding pieces at the kids’ level that they are really interested in playing. She is a fantastic teacher and we highly recommend her!
