About Timothy
I hold a Bachelors of Fine Arts from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. With over 15 years of experience, in both piano and voice, I've had to opportunity to perform, both domestically and internationally, with such great acts as Peter Nero and The Philly Pops, The Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, and many others. I served as lead singer, pianist, and co-songwriter for a number of independent bands covering numerous genres including, but not limited to, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Acoustic, and A Capella.

Since moving to Washington DC, I've immersed myself within the local music community playing a handful of group and solo acts. I currently maintain a home music studio well equipped with musical instruments and music technology. I'm constantly practicing, writing, and recording to improve myself as an artist.

My teaching style
is unique and individualized to each student. I set personalized goals to make every lesson a success, and I push my students to get the most out of themselves just like I do myself. I'm always enthusiastic and humor driven to create a personable learning environment for students of any age. Music is my life, and I'm so thrilled to have the opportunity to share my greatest passion with the hope that my students, too, will fall in love with music!

*** Lesson Details ***
My lesson environment is laid back and stress-free. I like my students to feel inspired and encouraged as they begin or continue their music education. I introduce fun and innovative ways to build students' musicianship and creativity while retaining classical methods to develop strong technique and proper performance and practice habits.

For beginners, we'll be exploring the basics of either piano, or voice, while focusing on proper technique, basic theory, and a solid skill set. Within 3-6 months, my students are able to read music and understand the language of it.

For intermediate-advanced, we'll focus on building musicianship and skill sets by furthering studies in music theory, varying styles of repertoire, proper techniques that will greatly improve your piano and/or voice abilities, songwriting, improvisation, and live performance skills.

I ask that my students come prepared to every lesson with the motivation and commitment to learn something new each week! Lessons are a fun and creative way to discover yourself as an artist and a person, so let's get started!!

Tim had my daughter engaged, smiling, and trying her best on the first lesson. He is a perfect balance of “chill and have fun” with “let’s get this done.” We couldn’t be happier.

About Raymund
Raymund de la Pena has been playing music professionally for the past 32 years and was introduced to music at an early age. He started playing the piano at age 8 and shifted to the guitar a year later when he heard "yesterday"by the Beatles, the reason for the move to a different instrument was inevitable as he states "I heard some nuances and sonic ideas that the instrument wasn't giving to me and pretty much i heard that on the guitar from the get go". And so,with his fascination for music he went to get his college degree in music performance. After graduation he played gigs all over the world( jazz bars, hotel gigs, session work etc...). In 2001 ,he was given the oportunity to be the musical director of the broadway musical "RENT" in Singapore where it got rave reviews. In 2003 he went to perform on a cruise ship in europe that traveled
to 20 countries as a musical director for the showband.

In 2011 he released his debut record "The Long Road Taken" independently with his group(composed of session musicians)the "RDP Project" wherein it featured all of his original compositions, describing it as :"The Long Road Taken is an amalgamation of the different facets of jazz, particularly in a quartet setting".

He has performed with Victor Jones( renown drummer) at the Zinc bar in New York and at Skippers in Newark,New Jersey. He has also performed with other Jazz artists such as Eliane Amherd ,Elin Kathleen Melgarejo,Doug Little,Mel Davis and have attended master classes by the great trumpet player Eddie Henderson, jazz great Charlie Byrd, jazz legends Ray Brown and Herb Ellis just to name a few.
Ray's playing and improvisational style is described as modern -which blends the relaxed and ductile articulation which is akin to horn players, but yet deeply grounded in the jazz tradition of swing, melody and the blues.

Degrees/training: Bachelor of Music (Major in Classical Guitar) University of the Philippines.

Gabrielle has a really fun personality, which only helps to compliment her piano skill. Not only that, but she is very flexible on scheduling, and understands that things can come up from time to time for either the student or the teacher. With this expectation in mind, her lessons really make the most of the 30 minutes allotted, and her skills show as she helps you step through each measure. I've taken piano lessons before, quite some time ago, and Gabrielle was quickly able to adapt the lesson to what I already knew versus what I had to re-learn or learn for the first time. Definitely recommend!

Hello! My name is Alex Rhoads and I have been teaching piano and guitar for over 12 years. I graduated from George Mason University with a Master's in Education, and have taught special education in the classroom for 5 years. I recently made the decision to pursue my passion--music--as a full time profession.

In addition to teaching, I play both solo and with a band at many local festivals, restaurants and coffeehouses, and am a regular musician at my church. I am an award winning songwriter and recording artist and have released two original albums in 2007 and 2016, one of which can be found on iTunes.

My lessons combine theory concepts with a variety of music genres such as rock, pop, and classical that will make your child want to practice. My main goal in teaching is to share my love of music with students and inspire them t
o be as excited about music as I am.

I am currently taking beginner and intermediate students ages 5-18 for piano and 7-18 for guitar. I look forward to getting to know you and your child and beginning our musical journey together!

I have taken flute lessons from Ms. Allen for the past six (6) years. When I first met her, I
was unsure about my playing and not very confident in my ability to perform in public. After working with Ms. Allen both my tone and my technique have each developed tremendously. I am now much, much more comfortable presenting my music in public. In fact, now, the more people present, the better I like it! Working with Ms. Allen completely transformed, not only my playing, but also my outlook on music
and on life. Today, I am a much more positive, optimistic person because of the world of music I am being introduced to through studying flute with Ms. Allen. Her knowledge of other music subjects (theory and history) is encyclopedic. I am so happy that she made room for me in her studio. Simply said, I am looking forward to performing music as always being an important part of my life because of my time with Ms. Brittney Allen. She is the best teacher I have ever had!

About Grace
Hi there! My name's Grace and I'm a voice teacher and a classically trained performer. I recently moved back to the DC area and am delighted to begin a voice studio! If you or your child loves to sing and would like to take your singing to the next level, feel confident as a soloist, or prepare for an audition, give yourself or your child a classical basis for how to healthfully sing. Now is the time! I have a varied background: I started out in musical theatre and choirs and now sing with orchestras, opera companies, and churches. I began teaching privately in college, then taught private lessons, before proceeding to the Westminster Choir College, where I just received a Master of Music in Voice and Voice Teaching (formally Vocal Performance and Pedagogy.) Hope to meet you soon!

*Note* I'm only able to travel to give in-home lessons
when the lesson duration is 45 mins or more.

Great teacher! I've been dabbling with harp for many years, but I couldn't believe how quickly I improved when I started lessons with Joe. We worked on all aspects of harp: the importance of playing tastefully, and of not playing; how to stand, how to breathe; technical aspects, like proper use of mics and what amps work for harp. After just a few lessons my band mates were stunned at my improvement. I've already recomended him to another player.

About Lilan
I started my classical music training at four years old and continued formal lessons until high school. I grew up in a very musical household as my father is also a professional musician.

Through my formal training and my further study, I have built up a substantial knowledge of music theory. At 11, I began playing percussion instruments and played in my school band through college (Shanghai Jiaotong University). At 13, I earned my level 10 piano performance certificate, which is the highest level in China.

During my time at University, I toured with the band throughout Eastern Asia and Europe. I also performed for Hillary Clinton’s visit to Shanghai and have performed musical solos multiple times at the Shanghai Grand Theater.

In my spare time, I enjoy listening to and playing popular music and classical pieces, particularly
those by Bach and Chopin. For more information, please do not hesitate to ask.

Lilan is an excellent piano instructor with her professional skills and years of playing experience. She provided me with practical guidance on my playing skills as well as the emotion in the performance with her on-stage performance experience. She is also a responsible instructor. She will play the chapter by herself to let me better understand the performance. Thanks to her professional instructions and patience, my playing skills have been improved a lot. I will recommend Lilan to everyone who would like to expect an improvement on their playing skills as well as receiving great instruction experience.
