The violin has been a constant and enriching presence throughout my life, and I enjoy helping people engage with this instrument that is demanding and rewarding in equal measure. No matter your age or level of expertise, I would be happy to help you along as you discover new musical territory. I’m most fluent in the classical style, but am happy to explore other areas with you as well, from bluegrass to Broadway.

About Kris

I have been teaching the violin to students of all ages and abilities for close to twenty years, and have had great satisfaction in seeing them all grow and develop over time. Some of my younger students have gone on to the Interlochen Arts Camp, and one of my former adult students still makes an

My son is quite shy and anxious about performing below what he develops as an expectation for himself - in everything, from sports to school work to music. Nicole's combination of professional excellence, efficiency and warmth made him immediately feel comfortable and open to constructive feedback . Nicole's teaching style is excellent. He is improving noticeably with every lesson.
Daisy H.
Daisy very much enjoyed her first lesson with Nicole and said she was very encouraging and gave her great pointers about how to improve. We are so pleased and look forward to more lessons to come!

*I teach with a heavy emphasis on vocal health. I encourage and teach complete body and mind awareness. I provide a comprehensive "lifestyle" approach to singing and performing.

*My specialties include: helping students find a unique voice in their original music, prepping for auditions, studio recording and ear training.

*Original Music: I have a piano, ukulele and guitar available for student use at my in-home studio. We can also work on editing your originals.

*Audition Prep: Especially for the working performer, we work on both voice and full body exercises to relieve anxiety and allow you to be in the moment when it's your time to shine. We aim to prevent any unnatural tension that may obstruct vocal production, flexibility and freedom.

*Studio Recording: Singing in a studio is certainly different than singing on stage and depending upon genre, it may seem like a whole other art form. Depending on the project, we prep you for your in-studio day using different ...

My goal in taking lessons was to get back to singing after a long hiatus of lessons and performing... to reclaim my love of singing and break through my insecurity. Jessica's warmth, humor and expertise helped me do just that. I learned new techniques and had a full on very emotional breath through right in her living room!

She made me feel safe, confident, and helped me learn about my unique voice as well as shared her expertise in proper breathing and gaining vocal control and increasing range.

In sum, Jessica is an incredible vocal coach and I'd definitely recommend her.
Sally
Jessica is an amazing teacher! She not only understands all the technicalities behind singing but she works to your strengths and helps you cultivate both your inner and outer voice! I felt very comfortable with her and even got emotional a few times as it was such a powerful experience to be able to be vulnerable and engage in something I love so much. Jessica is the perfect mix between professional and experiential where you'll learn skills but you will also have fun doing it. I highly recommend Jessica for your musical needs. I look forward to my future sessions!! It also helps she is incredibly talented! An all around win and positive experience :)!

I could tell Paul definitely knew all the tiny details about mastering the trombone since the first lesson. He recognized what I needed to improve upon in order to reach my goals in a timely manner, armed me with the tools to do so, and I have no doubt that I will achieve those goals as the lessons progress.

"My daughter's first lesson was "just a trial"... to see if she could handle the instruction. Julie was exceptionally professional and encouraging while navigating constructive criticism (of our sensitive vocalist). Excellent interaction and guidance as well as "Mom to Mom" direction on specific skill-set/practice tools. We're thrilled to have had Julie as our first encounter at "Takelessons.com" - she's an asset to the instructional community and now (if she can put up with us) our family! Thank you Miss Julie. :)"

"Mr. Willy helped me learn the song "Mean" by Taylor Swift!! I was so happy to play! I took the Stringed Instrument Workshop and I loved it! It was so much fun, and I was able to learn with my friends. It was easy to learn, and we learned how to play "Amazing Grace," together. We played it for my church and everyone loved it!!! :)

I will continue playing mandolin, and want to also learn violin, piano and guitar. I can even play "Mean" on the 12 string guitar now in open tunings!!"

"My 13-years old son was reluctant to take music lessons. He had not liked piano (with a different instructor) when he was younger, but agreed to try guitar. Since the first trial lesson, he has been excited to learn more!

Chris is a fun teacher who knows his stuff and who communicates well with both his students and their parents. I have three kids and have found it’s difficult to find a teacher who is responsive to parents + engaging with youth + gifted at music.

His rates are very reasonable for our area. His in-home lesson space is professional and comfortable — I get to sit on a comfy couch and get work done during my son’s weekly lesson. In addition, Chris goes above and beyond to make sure the lessons are meeting our expectations. He tracked down strings for us when we accidentally broke one. He has rescheduled lessons due to our busy schedules. He is genuinely kind and such a pleasure to work with — we couldn’t be more thrilled!"

The Perfect 15-Minute Violin Practice Routine [Video]

Think you don't have enough time to practice violin? Think again! We all have days where we're short on time, but that doesn't mean you should skip practice altogether. Here, Austin, TX violin instructor Naomi Cherie S. shows you how to get an effective violin practice session in only 15 minutes... We've all heard it before: "Practice makes perfect!" However, an intelligent five-year-old violin student improved this saying when she told me "Practice makes better!" It's a nice reminder tha …
