I earned my B.A. in music at Hood College and have spent the last fifteen years teaching general music classes as well as private voice and piano. I am also a preschool teacher in Montgomery County and my strengths lie in working with young children. If you are looking for a beginning piano teacher for your child, I would love to meet you! I use the Alfred series and generally have students work out of the technique, repertoire and theory books. Lessons are designed to be a half hour, and I understand the importance of changing activities frequently and keeping lessons fun and engaging when working with young children.

First thing I do before first day of class is send out an enthusiastic email and call shortly after. Briefly discussing and establishing the learning goals for the course based on the visual literacy, technical, and intellectual competencies the students should achieve by the end of a period is ideal for me to design the course or update an existing course for the student's desired outcomes. The syllabus and the schedule are completed along with a comprehensive strategy for what will take place during class. lessons include: physical warm ups, breathing exercises, vocal exercises and technical work, solfeggio (sight-singing), ear training, repertoire musical coaching , speech coaching, preparation for auditions and performances.

Priscilla was amazing and helped me achieve all the singing goals I had set going in, which were to strengthen my voice and breathing, expand my range, and identify where in the body to sing from. She was very friendly, and by starting each lesson with meditation it really helped set a relaxing tone for the rest of the time.

Ron has been my piano instructor for the past three years. I find him to be very knowledgeable in jazz as well as classical music. He goes above the allotted time to ensure your understanding of instructions, and maintains a professional demeanor at all times, even with wit in his oral approach. I would not hesitate to recommend him for piano instruction at all levels!

Mr. Worthy has a lot of knowledge to share, and I'm looking forward to future lessons. Great teaching style.

With over fifteen years of experience, I am passionate about teaching piano in a way that leaves each student truly inspired at the end of each lesson. The piano is the most logically laid out instrument for new learners. It's also my favorite one to play! You will learn scales, arpeggios, ear training, notation, music reading and the repertoire you love, all while maintaing a sense of improvisation and flexibility. I work with children of any age...including adults. :)

"Jackie is a phenomenal piano instructor. She is professional, energetic, patient, kind, and flexible yet consistent. My daughter was 6 1/2 years old when she started taking lessons with Jackie. We recently moved (when my daughter turned 11), and now we have to find a new piano teacher. Upon our move, we realized just how spoiled we were to have Jackie as a teacher. She makes all of her students feel loved and special.
Side note: it was fun during recitals to see how Jackie catered to her students' talents- some wanted to sing and write their own music, which she very much encouraged."

How Often Should You Tune a Piano?

Wondering about the average piano tuning cost, or how often you should tune a piano? You've come to the right place! Just as you go to the doctor for check-ups from time to time, your piano needs maintenance and care throughout its life. You may notice, especially if you have a keen ear, that your piano drops in pitch particularly during the summer and winter months. This is because your piano is mostly made of wood, and your wooden soundboard will contract when the weather is drier -- or the …
