Bryan has very unique lesson plans and can channel his musical thoughts very clearly. He was very understanding and reflective of my needs. He then presented me with a series of mental models and exercises which i am certain will make me not just a better pianist but a better musician and also help me appreciate music better.

I would highly highly recommend Bryan and i will certainly continue the musicial journey with him.

French Horn:
A brass instrument made of tubing wrapped into a coil with a flared bell. The double horn in F/Bb is the horn most often used by players in professional orchestras and bands. Pitch is controlled through the combination of the following factors: speed of propulsion of air through the instrument, diameter and tension of lip aperture in the mouthpiece. The pitch of any note can easily be raised or lowered by adjusting the hand position in the bell. Starting with the basics we would first learn breathing and fingering techniques, notes, reading, rhythms, and songs. As the student progresses scales, theory and soloing will be taught.

I thought I wanted to take viola lessons. Then I read her website and I realized that she might be able to help me get my voice back! I thought there was no hope ever. She has been extremely generous with her time, and I haven't seen her yet, but I'm not buying the viola I was planning on buying. I play cello, and piano still, but I am going to see if she can help me with my voice. She sounds incredible. I never dreamed that I could even have HOPE like this!

Thomas is honestly an amazing musician and teacher. He was really patient with me. Despite having to deal with major timezone differences (as I live in Myanmar), he took the time to figure it out. Also, he helped me figure out the stuff it took me months to figure out. He also really knows what he's doing. I learned so much in that hour of practice. 10/10 would recommend him.

Majestic, Beautiful, Noble, Heroic. The horn is a unique instrument, and an instrument many people say is very difficult to play. However, even in the early stages of learning the instrument, it is important to think about expressing the wonderful qualities of the horn, while still learning the technical aspects of the instrument. In my experience, playing as the President and Principal Horn of the Houghton Symphony Orchestra amongst other positions, learning to become a good musician is just as important as becoming a good horn player, so in my lessons I aim for my students to become both. Let us go forth and be better musicians.

About Jeffrey

As an award-winning composer, whose music has been described as "what Renaissance composers would have written if they had heard gospel music," I enjoy being known for music that is both intellectually rigorous and pleasant to the ears. Amongst other things, I am also an active Horn Player and am a

He started out making sure Mackenzie was using the right techniques for breathing, mouthpiece, etc. He wants to be sure you know the correct method from start to finish and doesn't just teach you the notes/music. "Dr. Merkel is the first tutor we have come across that is honest, forthright and actually TEACHES my daughter what she needs to know to reach her goals. He doesn't just tell her what he thinks she wants to hear to get her to come back next week. He's the real deal. He is a gentle corrector while being stern enough to instill what is necessary to succeed. The difference in her after four weeks with the Doc is amazing when compared to the last EIGHT YEARS she has been playing without his tutelage. We cannot say enough about him at this point and are thankful to have found such an expert!"
