I have been teaching violin for 18 years and have taught hundreds of satisfied students. When you sign up for violin lessons with me, you will begin by learning the basics of the instrument including proper holding and playing position, tone production, rhythm, first position notes, basic notation. Once you get the basics down, you will learn how to play your favorite melodies and songs. All of this can happen within the first 4-6 months of playing.

About Dave

Dave K. began playing guitar at the age of 10. His influences include Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Guthrie Govan, Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Pat Martino, Pat Metheny and Scott Henderson. At the age of 17 he began teaching private guitar and bass lessons to classmates

I haven't played the violin since I was in middle school, and I wanted to re-learn to play it. I am so glad I picked Dave, he is very professional and made me feel very comfortable. I jumped in with both feet and Dave made the instructions at our first lesson easy for me to understand. Excellent location and studio is awesome.
Rushia Hendricks
Excellent lesson. Does a wonderful job at taking older students and gently holding their feet to the fire to bring out the best- even under the most challenging of circumstances. Kudos to being such a uniquely great teacher!

I realize it was the first lesson but I was a little disappointed that we spend nearly the entire time on housekeeping items, like canceling and re-scheduling appointments. I think that could have been covered with an e-mail or handout. I also thought we spent too much time going over the differences between acoustic and electric guitars - considering my age and background. Would have liked to see him demonstrate what I was asked to practice before the next lesson instead of just being told to refer to the workbook.

I love tailoring lessons to my students! Music is personal and I want to make sure you're learning what you're interested in or need to learn in order to prepare you for auditions or keep up in groups you play in. I always ask students for a list of music they're listening to or want to learn - nothing's off limits!

About Stephanie

I started Suzuki violin lessons at the age of 3 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Music degree from UW-Milwaukee. In following years, I did post graduate work at Alverno College and went on to complete Suzuki teacher training in Suzuki Books 1-4. Besides teaching private violin, viola, and pian

Stephanie has just the sweetest and most positive attitude that one can find. Very gentle and supportive with beginner students <3

Stephanie is an amazing musician, mentor and human being. She teaches with an upbeat and natural ease-- building confidence, friendship, and a love for the violin.

My daughter describes Stephanie as very helpful, kind, happy, fun, caring, funny- and "inspiring".

My daughter had three years violin training from elementary school, prior to her first lesson with Stephanie-- and just after a few lessons with Stephanie, she went from enjoying the violin-- to having a passion for the violin!

Thank you Stephanie for all you share and instill in her.

Both my daughter (7 years old) and I love taking violin lessons from Merav! She obviously has a passion for music and violin in particular, which you can't help but be inspired by. She puts much effort and thought into how to help each individual student progress, and is always very gentle and kind when offering suggestions for improvement. We look forward to our lessons every week!

Merav Singer was the teacher for my class Basic Musicianship at UC Berkeley in the summer semester 2019. Merav was helpful, patient and skillful. I came to this class with no music background and English as a foreign language. Merav taught us in an appropriate way and pace so that we were all able to follow. I learned how to conduct the beat and how to sing, and basic elements of music such as staff and musical notation. The atmosphere of Merav’s class was active as she sang with us and used different musical instruments to help us understand better. I enjoyed her class not only because she took good control of the class with her passion and charisma, but also because Merav was very patient. She spent a lot of time after class explaining the material to me over and over again to make sure I could understand the concepts taught in a foreign language. I learned a lot during this summer and I am sure that anyone would enjoy learning information and skills from Merav.

Merav is a gifted violin instructor for all ages and levels. Her insight into the mechanics of violin playing, and ability to create a series of steps to achieve even the more complex aspects of music making, continue to inform my own teaching and performance. Truly, the best teacher is one who gives you the tools to continue to learn on your own long past your studies, and Merav is just that!

Learning a musical instrument should be fun, exciting, and most importantly pain-free.

About Chaul

I would prefer beginners to take at least one year of piano lessons prior to learning how to the play the violin. This way students can transfer basic music know

Thank you Chaul for a great lesson and also for being so patient with me when my computer didn't log into the session right away. I enjoyed my first lesson and am excited to have such a fabulous teacher that sent me material and information to prepare for my first session. I feel confident that I will be able to progress and I know that I will enjoy learning with you. I'm looking forward to my next lesson.

"Mr. Nader is an excellent instructor who always puts his students first. He customizes his lessons in accordance to each individual and patiently works with them so that they may achieve their optimum potential.

More than just a passive teacher of the violin, Mr. Nader dedicates his time and energy as a full time instructor of violin, cello, and music theory. Furthermore, Mr. Nader exhibits a level of knowledge, intellect, understanding, and culture rarely seen in the world today. When one walks into his music room, one will be struck with awe at not only the amount of books in Mr. Nader's library collection, but also the wide variety of subjects ranging from Music, Music History, Biographies, Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, and many more. However, do not think that these books are just for display. Quite the contrary, one short conversation with Mr. Nader will show that he is well versed in all these subjects; a modern incarnation of the Renaissance polymath. Building off of his broad knowledge base, Mr. Nader not only teaches one how to play an instrument, he also teaches one how to cultivate oneself in Music and the culture from which it originates.

With a passion for Music and a yearn to pass on higher culture to the avid learner, Mr. Nader is the best instructor for all those who wish to learn Music along with its connection to the history, society, and culture from which it springs."

"Cameron has been my teacher for a year and a half now, from the very beginning of me wanting to learn how to play a violin. In that time, he has been beyond patient showing me how to correctly play the instrument. He encourages me to be better. He works with my schedule as well as my learning curve. When I am stuck on something, Cameron provides tips and figures out a way to get me past the problem. I will continue as one of his students!"

"I have been beyond pleased with Kate. Her energy is calm and encouraging and allows the student to creatively discover how learning works for them. As an adult, having never played ANY instrument before, Kate has been the perfect nurturing guidance on this journey. I've also seen her perform outside of lessons and she is clearly classically trained but pushing the boundaries as an what an artist "should be" which I love as someone learning a skill, to see all perspectives. Kate is on time and professional and I have nothing but positive to say about working with her!!!"

"Josephine is just the violin teacher I was looking for!

Every lesson includes scales and etudes along with a couple of songs to work on. Her teaching is attentive to detail and well-rounded (spot-on technique, music reading, easily-digestible theory, etc.), while still really fostering enjoyment in playing and slow but steady growth. Whether you’re looking for classical violin, fiddling, or bluegrass, Josie will help you learn whatever you want to learn!

I definitely recommend a longer class time if you can do it - a few extra run-throughs of each song and scale make a big difference in your muscle memory and ability to practice efficiently on your own.

Of the few violin teachers I've had in my sporadic years of playing violin, Josie has inspired me to play the most, and I know I will continue taking lessons with her for as long as I can. Highly recommended!"

She quickly spotted technical issues with my daughter's playing and suggested appropriate materials for her to practice. We've only had one lesson so far, but I think this is going to be a good "match!""

"Travis has been my son's violin teacher for almost 2 years. My son new absolutely nothing about the instrument except that it spoke to his heart. Travis, who always has a big smile on his face, patiently brought my son from the first awkward finger positions to being able to stand in front of an audience at a party and confidently play three songs! Travis always comes on time. He is flexible and understanding when scheduling issues come up. And he is just an all around super nice guy. I would Highly recommend him!"

How Can I Make Practicing Violin Scales More Effective?

No matter how much students may groan when it comes to scales, they are very important for all beginners to know, particularly for the violin. Almost all of your knowledge about playing the violin starts with learning how to play scales, from reading sheet music to better understanding the fingerings. Of course, it is not nearly as exciting as playing one of the songs you love, but practicing scales will give you a strong foundation that will help you progress and improve. Violin scales are typ …
