I was very impressed with how well Andrea described and demonstrated what she wanted me to do. I have taken lessons with several other people and I made more progress in one lesson with her than I did for weeks with other teachers. I can't wait 'til my next lesson!

I am so grateful to Andrea....

I have always loved to sing, and sang in several choirs when I was younger. But I had "lost" my voice, and wanted to see if I could recover it. Andrea was wonderful in working with me: I was barely able to release any sound when we started our lessons. Within weeks, Andrea helped me discover how to form the vowels and release the sound. [I have moved out of state, so Andrea only had a limited time to work with me.]

She is passionate about music, and yet very patient with her students. She did not patronize me with false praise when I wasn't getting it, but she still encouraged me. And when I did get it, she was quick to affirm my progress. I strongly recommend Andrea as a voice teacher.

I started taking voice lessons from Jamie kind of on a whim- I had always wanted to learn to sing but I was nervous and kind of shy about it. Right away Jamie made me feel comfortable. He is very encouraging and gives criticism in a positive way. It is obvious that he really loves music and is knowledgeable about many different genres. I love that he focuses on theory and technique- as a beginner these are the lessons that I was looking for. After five lessons I already hear a big difference in my range and my vocal strength as well as my confidence, and I am sure that as I progress he will continue to challenge me. I highly recommend him.

S. Parker G.

Denver, CO

About S. Parker

Music became my life when I found a dusty guitar in the storage room at age 10. I owe a lot of really cool experiences to the guitar and so many of them center around learning. Teaching is fun and rewarding, but it is also my way of thanking the great teachers I've had.

-Studied Music Theory/Composition at Metropolitan State College of Denver

-Won a scholarship to the 2001 Summer Guitar Program at Berklee College of Music in Boston

-Frequent substitute at Arapahoe Community College (2004-2005)

-Teacher at St. Mary's Academy Middle School (2008-2013)

-Active me
mber of Onsombley guitar ensemble

-Songwriter, Vocalist, Guitarist in The Penny Dreadfuls

-Creator of "Strum by Strum"

-Takelessons teacher since 2008

*** Lesson Details ***
The best lessons I've ever had were lessons in which I walked away saying "Man, I never KNEW that!" and it's my goal for you have that experience, too. Whether its how to play that chord or write a melody, how to get the best sound out of those stomp boxes, or when genres like shoegazer and post-rock were invented and what they sound like... there's something to be learned in every lesson.

The most important benefit of taking lessons from me is my experience. I started teaching casually as a teenager and have followed every opportunity since. My passion for music has allowed me to teach private lessons (10+ years), middle school guitar class (including a guitar ensemble), and college-level music theory classes. Extensive experience in writing, recording, and performing has only helped that passion to grow. I've developed a method to blend theory with practice every step of the way, and make the journey fun!

My lessons with Parker have been outstanding!! He is the perfect instructor for me, and I am very happy to have found him: extremely professional and knowledgeable, kind, patient, and encouraging. I especially enjoy his positive attitude and fun sense of humor, and his lessons are challenging me at just the right pace. Plus, I especially appreciate the opportunity to take lessons online, since I live on an island, and do not have access to in-person lessons. Every week with Parker is another Five Star experience!!

Nate L.

Denver, CO

About Nate

Born in Boston mass I am a DU educated pianist comfortable in any Jazz, Rock, or Classical setting but find my first love is the bluesy rollicking piano reminiscent of Jerry Lee Lewis, Dr. John, or Ray Charles. You might have seen me around town in my Top 40 group, Jazz trio, Funk band, Gospel choir, Burlesque band, or as accompaniment to any of the extremely talented singers I have worked with. I'm also a composer and songwriter with a sardonic songwriting style compared to Mose Allison and Dave Frishberg.

I attended the University of Denver'€™s Lamont School of Music and graduated with a
B.M. in Jazz and Commercial Piano. Not only have I studied intensely with local fixture Eric Gunnison, but also with internationally touring artist Gerri Allen and even with jazz legend Billy Taylor at a summer music institute in Amherst, Mass. In Highschool I won the Clarke Terry award for outstanding musicianship. In college I won the Lamont Made composition contest two years in a row, my band The Orchid Room won the Lamont Jazz Chamber contest and I was a recipient of the Cherrington Global Scholarship, a grant that allowed me to spend a year performing and studying in Australia.

Since graduating college I have worked as the pianist on a cruise ship and have performed in Mexico, Hawaii, South America, French Polynesia, and Australia. I have recorded with LA based R&B artist Molly Cottrell, South By Southwest nominated Folk artist Leah Druzinski, and have had my music produced by Ikey Owens (keyboardist for Sublime, The Mars Volta, and Jack White.) I perform regularly at local venues Dazzle, Jazz at Jacks, and The Living Room.

*** Lesson Details ***
I have 7 years teaching experience and am especially suited to teach jazz, rock, funk, pop, blues and salsa. I am incredibly student focused, striving to help my students achieve their specific goals, and committed to working one on one to help you get what you want out of every lesson. Friendly, relaxed and affable, I have significant experience with adult and teenage students, students with special needs, and students looking for instruction in rock, pop, or blues.

I stand out from other piano teachers because my lessons are specifically tailored to your needs. While most Teachers in Denver are trained to take young children through a piano workbook and develop them into classical musicians, I teach based on what the student wants to play. I have significant experience in Jazz, Blues, and R&B piano as well as songwriting, and have worked professionally in rock, funk, salsa, jazz, standards, gospel, top 40, burlesque, and solo piano acts. My approach is not designed for young children but for adults and teenagers of all experience levels who have an interest in learning more about music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music studio, F/W Keyboard (Roland FP-7 Digital Piano) & Full Amplifier System, 7 Piece ?uestlove Breakbeats Drum Kit, Seating for Parents

*** Specialties ***
My Degree (B.M. in Jazz and Commercial Music) encompasses most styles of piano outside of classical.

I specialize most heavily in
Jazz,
Blues,
R&B,
Rock, and
Pop,

but also have significant experience with
Salsa,
Gospel,
& Klezmer.

I can teach classical as well up to an intermediate level.
