Harry G.

Englewood, CO

About Harry

I started playing clarinet in the school band at age six. My father was a musician, and he thought that playing in the school band would help me overcome my extreme shyness. I remember my first music lesson. I really liked my teacher. He came to my house, and he helped me to care for my clarinet and make some sounds on it. I thought playing the clarinet was wonderful. Once in awhile my mom would have to urge me to practice, but I was so drawn to playing the clarinet from the start that I would practice a lot on my own.

I was the youngest member of the grade school band, but my music l
essons helped me to keep up with the older kids. I had found a niche, and my niche helped me open up to other students in school and make friends.

I participated in band programs through middle school and high school. In middle school I began studying saxophone and flute so I could play in the jazz band. As a high school junior and senior I also got the opportunity to play in the Denver University Concert Band, and I was first chair clarinet in Colorado All-State Band and Orchestra.

I attended the University of Denver on a swimming scholarship as an Accounting Major and Music Minor. I was first clarinet in the 1st Infantry Army Band at Ft. Meade, Maryland and then I toured Europe as first chair flute in the 3rd Army Band based in Wurzburg, Germany. I was honorably discharged after a three year tour. I returned to the states and enrolled in Metropolitan State College as a Music Performance Major.

I started teaching and playing professionally during college and have done so ever since. In the course of my career I have performed with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra (CSO) on clarinet and saxophone, on second clarinet with the Central City Opera, and as a soloist for the Littleton and Jefferson Symphony Orchestras on clarinet and saxophone. I have performed on woodwinds for the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities and the Denver Municipal Band. I have played shows at the Boulder Dinner Theater, the Country Dinner Playhouse, the Littleton Town Hall Center for the Arts, the Schwayder Theater, and the new Lone Tree Center for the Arts and with PHAMLY (the Physically Handicapped Actors & Musical Artists League) and Magic Moments.

I have played professionally many styles of music (jazz, blues, pop, ethnic, klezmer, polkas) for clubs, parties, weddings, and concerts with the Benny Goodman Band, Tommy Dorsey Band, Jay Wieder Dance Orchestra, Moments Notice, Rave Reviews, and Ad Hoc Entertainment in big band, quartet, trio and duo settings.

I have been featured on many CDs for such artists as Mary Stribling, Georgeann Low, Neil Haverstick, Big Junior, Scott Smith, Martha Yordy and Ben Cohen.

I also perform concerts and record with Combo Amazo, a band that plays original jazz, blues, bluegrass, and klezmer. We were featured on the several NPR radio shows including E-town with Richie Havens. I lead a strolling duo on clarinet with guitar that played in the Denver International Airport Concert Series for 20 years and is available for any event.

I decided to teach because I wanted to share the enthusiasm and joy I have for music with students. I feel passionate about helping develop a child’s talents as a musician. I relate to well kids and can provide an atmosphere where kids are motivated to learn. I also enjoy teaching adults.

I help the student build good fundamentals. I customize lessons to define and reach realistic goals and address students’ school band needs or other musical activities. I respect students’ other interests and pursuits. I am an experienced professional musician well versed in woodwinds and a variety of styles. I can offer students a broad spectrum of musical knowledge. I can teach all levels from a young beginner to an adult professional. I have given clinics at many local high schools. I would love to share my skills and expertise with students.

Harry helped my daughter polish up some pieces for an audition. She was nervous and didn't feel fully prepared. Three visits from Harry gave her some great instruction and the confidence to go in and nail her audition!

My son has had three lessons so far, and we have been very impressed. Mr. Grainger does a great job of encouraging my son through positive feedback, making lessons fun, and giving him very specific, targeted feedback to improve his playing. He has been very flexible and responsive to our changing needs. I highly recommend him.

Harry and I began as strangers, and in these past weeks have become family. My reintroduction to clarinet playing is progressing very well, and complimenting my educational experience as a whole. I work full time and am a full time graduate student. Harry's motivation for me to practice helps my study habits. I look forward to each lesson, progressing to the next level!

Kirk R.

Denver, CO

About Kirk

I have been studying music for most of my life and began teaching when I was 16. I have been given the opportunity to learn from some of the best musicians and teachers around. Before relocating to Denver, I regularly gave performances throughout the Cincinnati area, as well as in surrounding states. I earned a bachelors of music in guitar performance at The College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati. While studying there I was able to meet musicians with different approaches to music and broaden my perspective on the way that I played and taught. Since moving to Denver, I have begun graduate
studies at the Lamont School of Music.

I have taught students of all ages and skill levels and have been able to watch my students meet goals of all sorts in their lessons. One of the studios that I teach at was also recognized in the category of "Best Music Instruction" by Cincy Magazine.

If you have never picked up an instrument before, I would love to introduce you to the basics of music as well as the guitar. If you have played some guitar, or another instrument, and are looking to hone your skills and maximize your potential, it would be my pleasure to help you along that track.

Nicole is committed to teaching a full appreciation for the violin. Despite the fact that my daughter has yet to play a note in her lesson, she has learned a tremendous amount & will be properly prepared in technique, form, tone & overall knowledge to play with confidence. Although my daughter hoped she'd be playing by now, she's become even more motivated to practice now that she understands there is so much more to the violin than playing a song. We look forward to seeing our daughter grow under Nicole's direction.

Stacey R.

Denver, CO

About Stacey

I am a lifelong student of many subjects. My approach to teaching is one of patience and enthusiasm. I do my best to understand the student's learning style and teach accordingly.
I have been a professional actor, model, and singer for 10 years. I specialize in on-camera acting for TV commercials, industrial video, and host. Most of the modeling I've done is commercial print and live promotional modeling. I've taught acting to kids ages 6-17 for the past year, including on-camera auditioning, stage directions, script analysis, and business skills (headshot/resume, finding an agent, industry
terms, etc.).
My singing experience includes pop, musical theatre, and jazz. I've coached students who believed they were hopeless, and they were pleased to discover their gifts and see growth!
I am a certified yoga instructor (RYT-200) and have taught for 3 years, both group classes and privately.
I minored in French in college and tutored beginning French.
My motto: Never stop learning!

Stacey is incredible! I have been in love with the arts ever since I was little but was always too shy to put myself out there and study music and theater. Stacey really helped me reach out of my comfort zone and pushed me to become the best actress I can be. I felt very comfortable in all of our lessons and she is one of the only people in my life who encourages me to pursue my dreams. Every hour we spent together I learned more about the world of acting and how to audition for roles and find an agent. I highly recommend her!

She's amazing! I feel she truly cares about my voice and wants to help my journey as a singer and performer. She explains things so well, it makes singing and music in general easier to understand from a technical perspective. She's also auch a kind person, easy to connect with, so I feel very comfortable singing in front of her! I HIGHLY recommend Stacy!
