I started playing drums in church at an early age. I started studying drums and piano at age 14. My fist teacher was a great musician named chad Johnson. After that I studied with current Berkley College of Music faculty member Henrique Alemeida and with him i learned technique and tools to play all genres. I also studied with Phd. I currently study with Jazz Greats Ron Miles, Paul Romain and R&B/Gospel extraordinaire Cory Baker. I also study with Kendrick Scott through Skype. I started taking voice lessons from Jamie kind of on a whim- I had always wanted to learn to sing but I was nervous and kind of shy about it. Right away Jamie made me feel comfortable. He is very encouraging and gives criticism in a positive way. It is obvious that he really loves music and is knowledgeable about many different genres. I love that he focuses on theory and technique- as a beginner these are the lessons that I was looking for. After five lessons I already hear a big difference in my range and my vocal strength as well as my confidence, and I am sure that as I progress he will continue to challenge me. I highly recommend him.

Jamie is an excellent voice teacher. I have learned a lot in the few months I've been taking lessons with him, and feel a lot more confident in my singing. My range and my knowledge of music have definitely improved. At each lesson you do a vocal warm up, go over music theory concepts, and then work on a song. I would definitely recommend Jamie; you will improve and have fun doing it!

Jamie has been my voice teacher for almost three years. I have enjoyed working with him on a variety of different songs and musical styles. He always has fun, sometimes challenging warm-ups for me to do at the beginning of each lesson. During the lesson, he is very good at helping me find better or easier ways to sing certain notes or phrases. He has a good ear and can tell if I'm singing something in an inefficient or incorrect way. When he offers me corrections or suggestions for ways to improve my singing, he does it in a way that is easy to understand and doesn't make me feel incompetent.
I feel that my singing has improved quite a bit during the time I have been working with Jamie. And as my voice improves, so does my confidence. I always look forward to my next lesson to measure my progress and to see what new things I might learn.
Harry G. Englewood, CO

About Harry

I started playing clarinet in the school band at age six. My father was a musician, and he thought that playing in the school band would help me overcome my extreme shyness. I remember my first music lesson. I really liked my teacher. He came to my house, and he helped me to care for my clarinet and make some sounds on it. I thought playing the clarinet was wonderful. Once in awhile my mom would have to urge me to practice, but I was so drawn to playing the clarinet from the start that I would practice a lot on my own. I was the youngest member of the grade school band, but my music lessons helped me to keep up with the older kids. I had found a niche, and my niche helped me open up to other students in school and make friends. I participated in band programs through middle ...

Harry and I began as strangers, and in these past weeks have become family. My reintroduction to clarinet playing is progressing very well, and complimenting my educational experience as a whole. I work full time and am a full time graduate student. Harry's motivation for me to practice helps my study habits. I look forward to each lesson, progressing to the next level!

I have only had three lessons so far, but Parker has been very easy to work with. I am sure that I present a challenge as far as structuring a lesson program. I am an older student (late 60's), I had some formal music training learning to play the accordion when I was young, but I am entirely self taught on guitar. I played guitar for several years when I was in my late teens, & picked it up again about 8 or nine months ago.
Consequently, I am all over the map in terms of my capabilities. Advanced beginner or intermediate in some technical areas, but with major gaps in my understanding of both theory and technique, Parker has done a nice job initially of not spending too much time on things I already know, but still covering enough of the basics with me to identify gaps in my abilities that need to be strengthened. I have enjoyed my sessions, and the pace has been about right so far.

Extremely knowledgeable, and best of all: he knows good tricks to teach you the content. He's done this for years and will serve you well. He can occasionally get sidetracked/off-topic, but it serves to provide insight into other aspects of the lesson and doesn't detract from the content. Overall, I'm very happy continuing lessons with him! :)

About Spencer

I am originally from Northeast Kansas, where I started playing guitar and studying music at the age of 9. While studying guitar, I had several influential teachers, including internationally renowned finger-style guitarist, Andy McKee, and University of Montana Professor of Music and Classical Guitar, Dr. Luis Millan. While attending college at Washburn University in Topeka, KS, I began teaching private music lessons to students of all ages, and experience levels in Northeast Kansas. During this time, I also recorded and regularly performed with my bluegrass/country/cajun band. I have experience playing and teaching numerous genres including rock, pop, country, blues, jazz, ...
