Coming form a musical family, I cannot remember when music was not a part of my life. Both my parents were musicians, my father an instrumentalist and arranger and my mother a fine pianist. From the age of seven they encouraged and assisted my music education any way they could. Music came first in our family. My school years were spent in band, marching band and jazz band. During my high school years I took over the local elementary band and taught beginning band to the students after the band teacher had left before the school year finished.
To pay my way through college I taught piano, organ and band instruments in rural Colorado, even using a horse to get to my students when the roads were closed. During this time I was the house organist at the Alladin Theater in Denver and had the pleasure of playing for the primer of
" The Duchess and Dirtwater Fox" starring George Segal and Goldie Hawn. I also played for many churches in the area assisting with choir and congregational music.
My teaching experience is broad with both private and public school classroom experiences. I have taught privately for well over forty years in both a private and group settings. I also have a MSW ( Master Social Worker) degree from the University of Denver and for many years assisted Seniors with the challenges that they face.
Currently I am Minister of Music for First Presbyterian Church in Georgetown, Colorado ( a small mountain community west of Denver). I am organist for the Scottish Rite Temple in Denver and perform private and public events throughout the mountain and Denver area.

For many years I have been blessed to go to my student's homes. In this comfortable, familiar background I have found the student is more relaxed in the learning process. With the teacher coming to the home this is one less thing for the parent to schedule in their busy schedule. I also have a comfortable studio in my home with piano, organ, keyboard and recording capabilities.
Everyone whether child or adult has a different style of learning music this is of vital importance of learning anything. This along with the students desires from their learning experience will help decide which coarse will best fit there needs. Through the years my students have shared with me that I am relaxed, easy going and make the lessons fun with a great sense of humor. I strive for the student to be playing music of their choice as soon as possible.
As we walk down the music road all aspects of music education are shared and encouraged. It is vitally important that the student has good reading skills, a basic understanding of music theory, technique, ear training and music history, as music encompasses all aspects of learning from the youngest student to the adult.

*** Studio Equipment ***
in home studio with piano, organ and keyboard and recording capabilities, with seating for parents and guests.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to provide the books and any supplementary material needed such a a book to write their assignments in. I will provide the lessons and rewards if they apply to the situation such as in young students.

*** Specialties ***
I find I use many methods of instruction. The method needs to fit the student and the situation one is in. I use the Alfred Method a great deal of the time as I find it works well in many situations. As the student advances I supplement in music wants and desires as well a curriculum that may be used if they should decide to continue their studies in a university or college setting.

About Scott
Hi! I'm Scott, and I'm a native of this great State of Colorado! I fell in love with the drums in 6th grade, and have never looked back! I too, began by taking private lessons, having been fortunate to be able to study under one of the best performers and private teachers in the Rocky Mountain West at the time. Beginning private instruction in Elementary School, I continued for 7 years even while embarking on a performance career in high school. Since then I've both performed and recorded a wide variety of styles including most forms of rock, country, jazz, pop, Gospel, symphonic/orchestral styles, and concert and marching band styles. I've also been fortunate to be able to teach many other students over these last 29 years of my career, and watch them achieve their own goals in drumming. It's my belief that, whether you want to do well i
n school, drum corp, or perform or record professionally, private instruction is absolutely necessary in order to succeed. It's also my belief that you can have a lot of fun along the way!

*** Lesson Details ***
First, we start in a studio environment with no distractions, enabling us to get a lot done in the time we have. I supply all of the appropriate teaching materials at no additional cost to the student/parents. I also strongly encourage parents, especially of the younger students, to sit in on the lessons so they know first hand what's being taught (I have a designated, comfortable parents and guests area for that very reason). Then, if you're just starting out, we'll work through the basics. If you're already an Intermediate level student, we'll review basics to make sure the foundation is there. Basic techniques are the building blocks on which all careers or school successes are built. Then we move into areas that take the you where YOU want to go, whether it's great grades in school, auditions for a high profile drum corp, or performing and recording with either your own band or an existing pro band that you've auditioned for and taken the spotlight in. We can focus on one or more forms of rock, country, jazz, pop, Gospel, symphonic/orchestral styles, or concert and marching band styles. No matter the end goal, it's your life - and it's my job to build the foundation in you and help you get where you want to go. Above all, the key to successful private instruction is providing an atmosphere that promotes quality teaching in a safe environment, and instills the confidence a person needs to stand out in the crowd!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I supply all of the teaching material at no additional cost. The in-studio lessons are taught in the basement which is finished w tile flooring and area rugs under the main set. The room also includes a work study area, waiting area with seating for parents, and parking is available. Home includes 1 dog that is not in the studio or student entrance. Parking is in the driveway.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I supply all of the teaching material at no additional cost. I can also bring sticks if needed.

*** Specialties ***
I have been performing professionally since 1982, and during that time have played a wide variety of styles, including most forms of rock, country rock, Gospel, jazz, Broadway, symphonic arrangements, and marching band styles. The recording/studio work I've done has also required a variety of custom playing styles and techniques.

Scott is an incredibly patient teacher. Our 6 year old has been working with him for quite a few months. Its really difficult to keep the attention of a 6 year old, but Scott has different techniques to keep him interested. He has taught our son to read music in a very short time. He has taught the importance of practice as well as warming up. He has no problem coming to our house to teach, which gives our son the comfort of home. Scott is very patient and extremely flexible and we are enjoying working with him.

Its amazing seeing our little boy reading the music and playing the drums.

We highly recommend Scott in every way!

Scott is one of the best teachers I've come in contact with.

He is great with people! He really goes into the need for knowing basics if you're going to do well at any of the playing styles. It makes it so much easier to play just about anything, instead of having to start from scratch to learn every individual style of music there is, which is really important when you're doing recording like I am. He's also great in encouraging individual creativity in playing, and not just staying "inside the box." That really makes a person stand out from everyone else, which is what needs to happen if you're going to be noticed and be successful.

About Mike
Hi,

I'm a professional drummer, percussionist, and composer here in Denver offering a fresh new approach to drum instruction. I teach at two separate locations complete with dual drum sets and a complete sound system that allows for both my students and I to play simultaneously and at full live volume!

As a Graduate of the California Institute of the Arts, I've been lucky enough to have studied with some of the most diverse masters of drumset and percussion from several continents around the globe. I've been a player of the drums for over 26 years now, and I'm still practicing and perfecting the art, gaining new friends, students, and live stage experiences on the way.

Let me start by saying that I highly value the freedom that I've been able to enjoy by passionately perusing music as a career. Any field where you get to socia
lize, interact with other musicians, and have fun performing with your friends, is a dream gig by any measure, but it does take hard work, sacrifice and tenacity to achieve that level of recognition. Fortunately I have the background and skills to not only make our lessons interesting and exciting!, but to also get you up to speed so that you can enjoy the life of a musician as well!!

My Complete Education:

Born in Santa Monica, California, I lived in and around Los Angeles in several areas before moving to Denver in 1990. I began on the Piano at age 4 and slowly gravitated towards playing the drums by my 9th birthday.

My first teacher, AND first mentor in music: Mark Foster (Metro College of Denver & Colorado Symphony Orchestra), At a very early stage he introduced me to Jazz and Latin and gave me a solid understanding of Classical Percussion as well.

My second instructor and Mentor: Jimi Bauchet, whom I took Rock, Progressive Rock, and Fusion lessons from, was a session and commercial artist in Los Angeles during the eighties and nineties.

Upon High School Graduation I left Denver to study percussion with Dr. Pennington at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. It was here that I would get my first taste of performing music on a high art level, as Dr. Pennington was one of Michael Udow's young prodigies when he attended the University of Michigan, a nationally regarded school for the percussive arts.

Two years at Fort Lewis College provided me with the perfect spring board to transfer and I then returned to my home state to earn a degree at the prestigious California Institute of the Arts (CIA). It was here that I had the honor to study with the likes of John Bergamo (Master Percussionist), Randy Gloss (John's closest disciple), Joe Labarbera (Jazz Drumset Master), David Johnson (My Mallet & Orchestral Mentor), Alfred Ledzekpo (African Percussion Tribal Leader), Wenton Welojo (Balinesian Gamelan Master and Celebrity), and Swapan Chardui (THE Tabla Guru, Truly an Honor). The Multi-Focus Curriculum allowed me to study a wide array of disciplines while still receiving a degree based heavily in Classical Percussion. My BFA is essentially a custom built degree with a strong background in Theory, Composition, Jazz Drumset, Tympani, Mallets, and a variety of pitched percussion instruments from around the world.

*** Lesson Details ***
My Personal Philosophy:

In many parts of the world there is no separation between music and culture, and to that end I strive to bring my students closer to the outside world through the strength of their own musical bond. Having music be a part of my life has brought me great opportunities to meet other players and fans of the trade, through which I have experienced some of my most rewarding moments with, as well as making some life-long friends along the way. So to me, MUSIC IS SOMETHING THAT YOU ARE!!!, not just something that you do, and that concept is the fundamental reason why my lessons will often go far beyond just the common practices of instruction, to not only show you WHY you would want to use a certain rhythm or technique, but also HOW to apply it in a real situation in the most musical way. Through the deeper understanding of music, there is an equally deeper understanding of ones self..........

My Approach:

Drumming is a very root level based instrument. It is primal in its nature and very emotionally driven. This is great in many ways, for playing the drums can be meditative, or used to relieve stress and pent-up energy, but the bottom line is that drumming is expressive and FUN!!!

So keep in mind that while there is a student-teacher relationship that I must keep, in order to get my points across, you really should enjoy each and every lesson while you're learning. It's proven that you'll retain more of the information that I'm teaching if I can get you to leave with a SMILE on your face!!

OK, so the real trick to what I do as a teacher that sets me apart is my approach. I don't have a "cookie cutter" format for stamping out drummers that all sound the same and have the same library of beats to pull from. If you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, I will custom tailor a lesson, or a set of lessons in order to maximize our time together, all while allowing you to develop your own individual voice on the instrument.

For beginners, I will set up a more structured program to get you up to the level where we can begin to experiment a little more and be able to play along with some popular songs. Using a few time tested books, some rudimentary exercises, and few hand written examples, you will begin to see results immediately. Together we will keep a binder of notes that contain all of your previous and current exercises, and from lesson to lesson you will be able to see the progress that you are making through your collection of notes and music. With this method I have taught everyone from 5 to 65 how to navigate their way around the drums, so you will be in good company if it's your first time on this instrument.

As far as the intermediate to the advanced player is concerned, well, we are going to have a great time jamming together and sharing amazing contemporary concepts. I will still offer the structured program to anyone that is interested, but for the drummer that already has years of playing under their belt, I really have something special to offer you. Odd time, Mixed Meter, Four Limb Independence, Ostinatos, Displacement, and even Polyrhythm

*** Studio Equipment ***

Comfortable thrones to sit on while playing. Various instructional DVDs that can be borrowed from time to time.

*** Specialties ***
Music, Drum set, Orchestral Snare Drum Technique, Hand Drums, World Percussion
Moeller Technique, Multi-Fulcrum Technique, Four-Limb Coordination and independence, Odd time, Polyrhythms, Mixed Meter! Capable of teaching drum set Reading and Notation! Also capable of teaching ALL STYLES of music. If you can think of it, I have played it. Too many to list here.

Mike is an exceptional teacher. I’ve been a teacher, my parents were both teachers, we pay a lot of tuition to put our children in schools with (theoretically) well-paid and highly qualified teachers: IOW, I am really picky about teachers! Mike is the epitome of patience and clearly devoted to music and instruction. He is professional and conscientious. He kept my son challenged, engaged, and motivated to practice and improve. Truly, Mike is the kind of teacher you wish populated every classroom.

Mike is awesome! Super down to earth and easy to talk to. He is understanding and patient and seriously takes the time to help you grasp new concepts and increase comfortability with new styles. He is an incredible musician and really understands the deeper meaning behind any drum style or technique that you are trying to learn. I have been a self taught drummer my whole life and I moved to Denver to attend CU for music after getting out of the Army. Mike helped me to prepare for my entrance exams and my drum kit audition, which I knocked out the park. I am now a full blown music student and officially on path to my dream career. Thank you Mike!! I'm looking forward to more lessons and to continue improving!

I had no prior vocal or musical training of any kind--I can't read music--when I began voice lessons with Laura. All I had was a passion since childhood that I finally got the nerve up to pursue. The lessons were a wonderful experience from the very beginning. Voice may be the most challenging instrument to learn, because the teacher can't "play the instrument" to demonstrate technique. Laura has a remarkable talent for communicating vocal techniques and concepts with inventive and vivid visualizations that helped me understand the relationship between my body, my voice, and the sound I produce. I loved the music of Gabriel Faure, but never imagined I could sing it. Laura had all the confidence that I could, and we jumped right in. Faure's beautiful art songs, as well as others by Reynaldo Hahn and Ernest Chasson that Laura introduced me to, are now a part of me. I learned so much in the two years we worked together before Laura returned to her hometown of Denver, and miss her terribly!

My 13 year-old daughter had taken voice lessons from Ms. Laura in Maryland for two years. I have to say my daughter was so lucky to have Ms. Laura as her first voice teacher! When my daughter started to show interest in singing in 2016, she knew very little about singing. Ms. Laura was very knowledgeable, personal and supportive. Ms. Laura taught my daughter about vocal anatomy, how to improve her voice presentation and how to avoid possibility of voice loss, inflammation from overuse or misuse. After several months, my daughter made very impressive progress on her voice range and presentation. It was such a treat when I listened to my daughter practicing singing at home. She was getting better and better every day. I was so proud of my daughter. At the same time, I really appreciate Ms. Laura being such a wonderful teacher. Ms. Laura is very personal. She tried to know my daughter as a teacher and as a friend. Based on each student's personality and strength, Ms. Laura chose music that helps each student to grow, but also focus on what needs to be worked on. Ms. Laura was very flexible when we needed to reschedule lessons. We sure miss her!!

Hi, I'm Michael Chodosh. I have been a professional guitar player my entire life. I love playing, writing, performing and I love teaching music. It's fun for us both. I use systems to bring the best out of my students. I think everyone is happier when they reach their own potential while staying in their heart. My job is to help you do that on guitar! With your playing, whether that's just some strumming and reading or if you want to play standards like a pro or even shred like a monster. I can help guide you there and inspire you to reach those goals that you presently might not even realize you can achieve!

I started taking lessons with Michal Chodosh to learn music theory and reading music. In the time I have worked with Michael, I have learned a lot. When I began lessons, I didn't know scales or modes, knew only basic chords and wasn't able to read sheet music. In addition to that, I was barely able to follow tablature. Michael has taught me about all of those items and more. Lessons with Michael are a lot of fun. There is always great interaction between students so that newer students can learn from both Michael and from other students while becoming comfortable with learning about the guitar. Deciding to take lessons from Michael was a great decision. I've thoroughly enjoyed learning how to play the guitar.

My introduction to Michael came when he sat in with a band I was playing with....I was so blown away by his playing, I ended up taking lessons from him.

Micheal has helped open up new frontiers in playing and theory for me without ever making me feel like a dummy for not knowing things. One of the best things about him is that his teaching style makes students feel comfortable, but also challenged.

Michael has the experience, patience, and knowledge to help everybody from beginners to working professionals learn and improve. Heck, he even taught me to sing my first legitimate vocal harmony.

Time with Michael Chodosh is time well spent!

About Tommy
Tommy got his start playing drums when he was 7 years old, when he climbed into the kitchen cabinets and started banging on pots and pans. This humble beginning led to his parents to buying him a drum set, then to Tommy joining the drum team in middle school. In high school he became a part of the drumline in the marching band, in addition to participating in the Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Winter Percussion Ensembles. During this time he developed his skills in playing marching snare drum, drumset, marimba, and concert percussion instruments.

After graduating from Rangeview High School, Tommy volunteered for a year as the drumline teacher. The following year, he became a paid percussion instructor, leading the group to win several competitions. During this time, Tommy also attended the Community College of Aurora, stu
dying studied Music, Business, and Film. His studies led him to attend the Recording Workshop - School of Audio and Music Production in Ohio, where he earned his certification in Music Production and Audio Engineering.

All of these experiences inspired Tommy to start his own record label and publishing company, Vibrato Music Group Inc., giving him the freedom to be a session drummer, songwriter, and record producer. Working with talented musicians every day has been the highlight of his career.

Tommy's goal as a teacher is to help students go from beginners to professionals, helping them to reach their fullest potential - not just in drumming but in life. The skills he teaches his students are tools that they can apply to anything they choose to do in life, and he shows them that through hard work and dedication to their craft, they can achieve anything. Tommy helps his students learn is by providing visual and audio examples, then demonstrating the real-world application of those examples. His students learn in a variety of ways, including muscle memory exercises, practicing playing at different tempos, and playing along with examples.

Hello, and thank you for our interest in music lessons!

I've been playing piano since age eight, and teaching for over ten years. I love teaching teens and adults who are interested in writing their own music, but have experience teaching children as young as three years of age. My passion for piano shows through my own compositions, and I love exploring the meaning of life through music. I've recently released a full album of avant-pop piano songs called "Blind Opening" and am excited to get back into teaching music after a brief hiatus during the album completion.

Even before my exposure to piano at age eight, I've enjoyed my own form of composing by dictating the sounds I imagined in my head on paper. My initial inspiration to compose music on piano came from the movie “The Changeling” starring George C. Scott. The film’s superna
tural plot, based off of a ghost story that took place in Denver (but was portrayed in Seattle in the film about a composer haunted by tragedy), first drew me in to the idea of working to become a pianist composer. It also called upon my belief that music is a way of connecting with otherworldly entities and experiences. I've been defining and honing my composition style and skill while paving my creative direction since my conservatory studies. Aside from solo music work, I also draw, create stop-animation videos, paint, sculpt, and write poetry - much of it inspired by my favorite composers, Star Trek, and the great outdoors.

About Julie
I was introduced to piano lessons when I was 5 and fell in love with music. Lessons were a part of my life for over 20 years and being comfortable playing in a public setting was a goal I achieved at an early age. For over 10 years I have had the delight of teaching children, teenagers, and some adults the joy of playing the piano! It is a wonderful skill that can bring comfort, joy, and relaxation, both to those who listen and to oneself. Furthermore, it is a great foundational instrument to learn before changing to other instruments if desired. While my experience lies in teaching classical and sacred music, I also know the value of working with my students to develop skills in the areas and styles of music they would like to learn. It is my desire to work individually with each student in a way that instills a love and passion for musi
c and piano playing in each one!

She taught by me piano from 5 years old through my teen years and worked well with me through each learning stage. Her skill and passion for music continue to be an inspiration and I have been able to use what I have learned for both personal pleasure and accompaniment purposes in various settings. Thanks Julie for shaping my life in this way!

As a home schooling mother, I desired that our children had an opportunity to include musical training in their daily curriculum. When I asked Julie about lessons she readily accepted the challenge to teach in our home. She adapted each lesson to the specific needs of our children & sought to make learning enjoyable. All of them have a very good foundation & love for music & several have & still do play publically.

Julie is a conscientious teacher. She taught several of our children the fundamentals of piano - notes, timing, fingering, etc - and gave them a great foundation for their further development. She is patient and kind, qualities that are very needful for helping beginners.
One of the reasons we chose Julie was because we attended church where she was the regular pianist, and we could watch and hear the skills she had to play. We would highly recommend her.
