My style of teaching is to teach each child one step at a time, through method training. Each child/Adult has their own learning curve and I adjust accordingly. Each lesson is fun and yet a learning time. I love teaching and it feeds every day. I always can see more students.

No words can express how good she is at teaching cello
Layla
As an adult learner, I was intimidated by the prospect of learning the cello because it’s such a demanding instrument, but Arlette has put these apprehensions at ease. She is wonderfully experienced which gives the student a very solid foundation; essential to playing the cello well. Highly recommend her as an instructor for any aspiring cellist.
Joshua
I started playing cello at 26 years old with absolutely zero musical experience of any kind. After 6 months of attempting to teach myself the cello, I decided I needed help and begun my journey to find myself a cello instructor. I was so fortunate to find Arlette! Arlette was abundantly patient with me, from my habit of asking too many questions to my very unpredictable availability. Before Arlette started teaching me music theory and how to play the cello, I never appreciated the value of having an instructor. After having taken lessons from her for nearly a year, I would simply say having a fine instructor like Arlette is a necessity. The first time I played a duet was with Arlette, and it was a moment in my life I am so thankful for and I will never forget! She is kind and consistent, very professional but also very personable which is a very hard thing to balance. She pushed me to excel without making me feel overwhelmed. I could go on forever about how great a cello instructor Arlette is so I will finish with this... If you are looking for a cello teacher look no further.

Hi! Depending on what the student enjoys, we will focus on learning songs from a musical genre (classical, pop, jazz etc). We will also learn music theory, note reading, improvisation, fingering, bow technique and much more. It is very important to me that my students are enjoying what they are learning, so they will be inspired to practice and persevere!

Hi Everybody! My name is Rhody, my pronouns are he/him/his, and I’m just the person you’re looking for. I have 22 years of cello-playing under my belt, and I have been teaching to kids, tweens, teens, and adults since 2012! I’m incredibly patient, an avid encourager, and I LOVE helping others discover their own latent gift of music within them. I specialize in beginner and intermediate cello.

If you’re looking to learn a new skill, or if you know the cello already and would like a refresher, get in touch with me! All of our lessons will follow a customized plan that meets your specific needs. You'll be learning everything from correct posture to fundamental theory, and we'll even throw in some pop songs if you like!

About Rhody

Having spent the last decade traveling the world and then going cross country in the U.S., I have seen many beautiful things that tint my life a pretty shade. My music is a facsimile of the world I experience around me, and I am heavily influenced by it's beauty. My goal is to get the beauty YO

When I picked up guitar again for the first time in a decade, I wasn’t sure I would be up to the challenge. But every step of the way, Rhody has been communicative, patient, and a hoot to work with!
From walking me through music theory fundamentals (sometimes over and over), to helping me understand tempo, Rhody has helped me gain confidence in myself as a musician!
I can’t recommend him as a teacher enough.
Courtney
I had picked up the cello last August with absolutely 0 experience with strings. I had one other teacher when I first began and unfortunately needed to take a break due to financials.

Fast forward to this year and I had quite accidentally found Rhody's information but I am so glad that I did!

He is a fun, patient and knowledgeable teacher. He explains things in a very simplistic way and makes sure you're both on the same page. He understands that life gets in the way of practice sometimes but kindly pushes you to keep trying and keep practicing (that IS the only way we'll get better, y'all).

Since I've started practicing and learning through Rhody, I feel like I actually understand how the music is ought to be played...and that's a sure step in the direction of truly understanding such a beautiful instrument.

I could go on but I'll leave it with this: please go through Rhody! You won't find a better teacher!

I have been teaching cello lessons students of all ages and abilities for over 10 years. I consider myself to be a traditional teacher incorporating several Suzuki Method principals, particularly emphasizing good technique, learning the value of effort, and using music as a tool to nurture soft skills that benefit non-musical aspects of school and/or life.

Through cello lessons I strive to help students reach the following goals:
1. Achieve the ability to make beautiful music and demonstrate a mastery of technique at every level.
2. Experience joy through playing music and a sense of success and accomplishment through hard work.
3. Develop valuable skills, traits, and habits that help the student excel in other areas beyond music lessons.

About Joseph

Joe was able to work with my daughter to approach some very complex material (using Abelton live to live loop and edit her songs) at a pace and with a vocabulary and tone that completely defused an otherwise intimidating situation. His calm, steady manner spiced with just the right touch of dry wit and his keen ear for a mean beat kept the lessons fun and very productive. Joey's not just a fantastic and unique musician and teacher, however, he's a great person and a fantastic influence to have in your life.

Joey is the best! A lesson from Joey is always a highlight of the week. I'd be surprised if you don't feel the same based on his talent, his warmth, his humor, and his intelligence.
Courtney
My 10 year old son has loved his piano lessons with Joey. We had excellent in-person cello lessons in the past, and the video piano lessons have been just as effective. Joey has several camera angles set up in his home so my son can see Joey's hands on the keyboard in real time during the lesson. We get a Zoom link for each visit and a recording of the visit afterwards, which helps with practicing during the week. I highly recommend Joey as a patient and talented instructor! The lessons have been a great activity / distraction for my active son during shelter in place. It's a win-win!

"My first (online) cello lesson with Megan went very well! I was surprised to have learned so much during my first lesson. As an adult beginner, I was really appreciative of how Megan is very patient. I had to ask her a few times to repeat what she said, and she was really understanding in doing so. She also gave clear instructions. I'm really looking forward to practicing and having my next lesson!"

"We love Mr. Heaton. My son is 13 and on the autism spectrum and so focus can be hard for him, he was really struggling in school based orchestra because they couldn't give him one on one attention. He also struggles with fine motor delays (which is why we chose a string instrument). We've been doing lessons with Nicholas for almost a year now. Nicholas always takes his time with my child and is extremely patient. My son has gained SO much confidence since we began taking these private lessons. They work on not just learning to play cello but learning how to really understand/read the music and making sure that the techniques he's learning (hand positions, ways of sitting and moving) are all exactly what he needs to progress successfully in his orchestra and going forward. My son enjoys his lessons and I feel like we always get our money's worth. I can't wait to see where he will be another year from now working so closely with such an amazing musician and teacher."

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
