About Rachelle

Hello! My name is Rachelle and I'm a professional singer, songwriter and pianist from Victoria, BC, Canada. My background in music is a blend of Pop, Rock, Jazz Classical, Blues and R&B. I was featured in Keyboard Magazine’s November 2012 Issue as one of the 6 Best Keyboard Heroes to watch out for

Rachelle is extremely personable, knowledgeble, and communicative in her technique training. She is really helping me to unlearn all the bad habits that have naturally developed over the years, and I'm already more cognitive of my vocal projection. She's at the top of her game. Would highly recommend her to ANYONE in search of the best instructor.

A fantastic teacher

In just my first few lessons with Rachelle, I learned more about the anatomical aspect of singing than I had in 10 years of choir/singing. She put great emphasis on the technique and skill aspects, while still balancing it with emotional connection. Perhaps my favorite thing about Rachelle is that instead of giving you songs to practice or telling you exactly what kind of songs you need to be doing, she allows you to bring in any music that you like and allows you to pick the focus of your lessons (whether you want to work more on breath support or volume or tone quality etc.). She maintains a flexible, laid-back and supportive attitude and has been a wonderful help for me.

Rachelle is a great teacher!

I took lessons with Rachelle for about 2 years and I'm so glad I did. I have improved so much vocally as well as performance-wise. It was a lot of fun to be able to work on my own favorite songs instead of purely classical. I would definitely recommend taking lessons with Rachelle!

I am 5 lessons in to a 10 lesson package and Kim has been excellent. She adjusts her style nicely to the student and has put me on track each week to be better. Great instructor!

My first lesson with Dr. Kim was great, I was very rusty but she helped me dust off with some exercises and was very friendly and helpful with the parts I was struggling with. She also helped to provide resources for me to progress more on my own time. I'm looking forward to seeing progress with her over the coming months

"Tanisha is AWESOME

Tanisha- she knows what she’s doing. I remember a saying that goes “Those who can’t do, teach” –something like that- but anyway, Tanisha, well, she both CAN DO and TEACH. She definitely knows her art and she would make sure that you learn yours too. She doesn’t just stop at teaching you how to reach the notes; she will teach you how to own the notes, that is the way she teaches music. I never thought I could be even more passionate about singing than I already am until I met her. The passion that she brings with her is so captivating that she will, not only involve you, but engage you in what you’re doing. Her energy during the class is just contagious, it would really make you take on the lessons with enthusiasm and glee- not a dull moment with her but also she knows just exactly how to balance it with the right amount of strictness so you would really get the lesson in your head. . I remember the first time I spoke with Steve, the operator from take lessons telling me how Tanisha is actually quite far from my place but that I should go on and try the lessons because she’s definitely worth the travel- well, I should really commend Steve too because he is so right, taking lessons with Tanisha is one of the best decisions I have ever made, maybe I’ll commend myself too for making that decision and if you make the same decision then I will commend you too ;p lol"

The Importance of Playing Duets

There are tons of benefits to playing duets, whether it's with another violinist or another instrument altogether. Read on as Washington DC music teacher Kaushik S. explains...     Duets/duos are an integral component of comprehensive music training. In covering the importance of duets in learning music, there are two primary types that will be covered. First, it is important to be able to perform with another person playing the same instrument.
