I start from scratch with every student, and create a plan based on their goals, experience, and preferred music styles. No two students have the same lesson.

Additionally, because the jazz school I attended gave students very strong instruction in harmony and ear-training, I teach students not just how to read notes, but to understand what they're playing so they can be more creative and versatile. Moreover, I encourage students to feel comfortable making mistakes in a safe environment so they can step outside of their comfort zone.

About Marshal

I've been involved with music for nearly my whole life. I started out with Suzuki violin lessons and then switched to the piano when I was in the 2nd grade and have been performing, studying, composing, and teaching ever since. I graduated from Yale with a Bachelor's in History and afterward e

I recently took an intro to piano class from Marshal via Zoom. He e-mailed the course .pdf materials promptly after booking so that I could visually go over the lesson ahead of time. He had an easy going manner about himself and was okay with me interrupting on several occasions to ask a question or tell him I already knew the material being taught. Definitely recommended for beginners and children!

I have great luck with the black key approach for young beginners. Spoiler alert, the black keys are the pentatonic scale and sound great in any number of different combinations. I emphasize ear training, learning to read music, and also having fun.

About Brian

My name is Brian C. and I've been featured in the Berkeley Folklore Archive for songwriting! I am a creative person who is adept at a number of musical instruments. While I don't play them all, I would certainly like too. I have a music degree and I would love to teach your student anything from

Brian is great for kids and adults!

My 10-year-old showed interest in learning piano, and Brian is great! My 8-year-old thought it looked fun, so we added him, and Brian does a great job with him. In fact, my 40-something husband was so impressed, he signed up, too! Brian is terrific with all of them. Everyone is learning at his own speed and each is improving. Brian adeptly teaches according to skill, interest, aptitude, and attitude. I'm so impressed! I heartily recommend for anyone looking for a music teacher.

The most fulfilling part of being a teacher is leaving your students feeling more capable and empowered than they were before. I'm not satisfied if you're not satisfied, so you can trust that I will bring my best to every lesson. I've been teaching piano in San Francisco for three years now (and teaching trumpet for 10+) and have my masters in music composition from San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I have specialized training in piano technique and pedagogy because of teaching at different professional studios throughout the bay area. I integrate movement and games to bring energy into each lesson and create memorable experiences for ages 5+.

I focus on training these aspects:
• Literacy (fluency in being able to read music)
• Skill-Building Mindset and Tools
• Music Theory
• Ear-Training
• Technique
• Music Appreciation
• Improvisation and composition

About Roxanne

My biggest concern whenever I give a lesson is "am I providing value to this person? Is this what they need? Is there anything else I can do?". Teaching is a huge gift and responsibility. I get to know my student's lives, personalities, interests, goals, and learn from my experiences from them.

My son has looked forward to trumpet lessons since we began working with Roxanne. We've only experienced instruction via Zoom, yet we all feel he's learned quite a bit and he feels he has become a better trumpet player. As a parent, I appreciate her flexibility and clear communication. I have confidence in her teaching style and the apparent vision she has for this point in my son's musical journey.

Ms. Roxanne is a wonderful teacher with fun and inspiring tricks up her sleeve. She is able to captivate the imagination of young minds and help them achieve a consistent learning experience. I am so impressed by how effective her teaching methods are in keeping young restless minds interested in learning music. Roxanne's lessons are playful which is perfect for kids and adults alike. She creates fun musical games and creates funny stories and characters around musical concepts to help children remember. This is so much more fun than just plain memorizing! She even invents new games for individual children based on their own personal interests; recently she came up with a treasure hunt game in a young boy's backyard to help him learn about rhythm. Her YouTube channel keeps kids excited for the next lesson with creative and kid-friendly videos. She truly is an ingenious music teacher. I cannot recommend her enough to inspire you and your children in the way of music.

I have a unique, extensive background in teaching the art of playing the piano in a private studio, preparatory school and university level settings. I teach all levels from beginner to advanced for ages five through adult.
I have a strong program in note reading and rhythm skills, as well as exploring all dynamic levels on the keyboard using interesting and fun repertoire.
More advanced students learn to use their theory skills to analyze their music to gain a better understanding of the composer's intent.
They also learn finesse as well as nuances in piano technique to apply to their pieces of music.
I've taught for over five decades so I have tons of knowledge and experience!

About Beverly

I have taught the art of piano playing since 1975 guiding hundreds of students in learning the skill of becoming an accomplished pianist, implementing keyboard theory, analyzing and improvising music and honing their performing abilities through various performing opportunities. I have studied and

I took piano lessons from Mrs. Talley from age 10 to age 17. Over that lengthy period of time, I came to realize that composing music is my true passion in life, a realization that I absolutely would not have attained without Mrs. Talley's invaluable guidance. To put it into perspective, I am 22 years old and finishing up my bachelor's degree in Music Theory/Composition, with the intention to continue pursuing the subject at the masters and doctoral level. I hope to be a theory/composition professor some day. Not only did Mrs. Talley provide me with excellent instruction for performing at the piano, she also facilitated my creative streak and let me arrange/compose songs for fun. She would even let me perform my compositions at recitals! These facts all point to what I think are Mrs. Talley's greatest qualities as a teacher: her love for music in all its forms, paired with her desire to see her students succeed at whatever aspect of music they do best in. I am truly grateful to her and I could not recommend another teacher any more highly!
Julia
My children have taken piano with Mrs. Talley for 9 years. Mrs. Talley has proven to be a phenomenal teacher who helps her students strive to reach their highest standards. She gives them ample opportunities to perform at recitals, guild and sonata competitions, and multiple other outlets which has helped with confidence building. When Covid halted everything else, Mrs. Talley didn’t skip a beat and followed through with video phone call lessons. There was a year when Mrs. Talley moved away and we had the experience of 2 other piano teachers during her absence. It is hard to find a teacher as dedicated and talented as she.
Shae
My children have taken piano lessons with Mrs. Talley for 4+ years. She is kind, patient, and encouraging. She is an outstanding pianist and teacher. We highly recommend her!

Good first lesson with Dave. He's a great communicator and seemed to understand my level of music experience; he knew the right subjects to linger on, and what information he could skip over, confident that I already knew it. I felt like we were able to cover a lot of ground in 45 short minutes.

"“Faye W. has been a “diamond among the rough” find! She is a wonderful, flexible, energetic, patient and fun piano teacher!!! I played the piano when I was younger but did NOT want to teach my own child. I made the right decision as Faye makes learning music FUN and engaging. She encourages her students to play music that they actually like and enjoy, as opposed to boring them to death with only strict technique and theory practices. My daughter looks forward to her lessons and I’ve even begun playing again after taking years off. Faye has been a delight and an inspiration to our entire family. We are all enjoying the piano again for the first time in years! I searched high and low and couldn’t find another instructor that was as affordable, flexible, easy going, and patient as Faye. Her gift of perfect pitch and ability to play by ear amaze me personally as I can only read music. Faye is well trained and a talented musician. You will not be disappointed!”

"Dave is the best teacher. Hands down!

After having some rough experiences with past teachers in my life, I came to Dave with a very specific goal in mind. To learn piano so I may graduate college. I had a lot to learn very quickly! I am an older student which made this task a bit intimidating. He is very patient and is able to explain things in a way I understand. He has a very light and nice personality which makes me want to focus and try hard. He definitely pushes me, but in a way that isn't scary.

Dave is the best. He is an incredible teacher and a really nice guy. His studio is really neat and professional which matches his personality. Take lessons with him. You'll be glad you did!"

She is an awesome teacher and were so happy that we able to have her teach our daughter how to play piano and learn to enjoy music. I strongly recommend trying her first before going elsewhere, because after your first lesson you wont want to go anywhere else."

How to Improve Your Left Hand When Playing Piano

“Why won’t this hand work?” is something every piano teacher has heard students  say in exasperation. The left hand is often a source of deep frustration for pianists for two main reasons:  1.) Roughly 90% of the world is right-handed. Are you one of them? 2.) Piano music tends to be right hand oriented. Unless you are naturally a “southpaw,” you will, as a matter of fact, struggle more  with your left hand. However, there is hope!  First, it bears exploring some caveats t …

10 Wedding Processionals You Can Play on Piano

There are so many beautiful piano pieces that make the perfect choice for wedding processionals. Here, Saint Augustine, FL teacher Heather L. shares a few to consider...    Weddings are beautiful celebrations of a couple's lifelong commitment to one another. They're also a great performance opportunity for pianists out there.
