String instruments are most often associated with classical music, but why limit yourself to Bach and Brahms? A few weeks ago we featured a video from dubstep violin player Lindsey Stirling, but if you’re looking for something a bit more… headbanging… look no further than the jams of Croatian-Slovenian duo 2Cellos.
Check out the video below to watch them battle it out with none other than Steve Vai…
This dynamic duo was discovered after their YouTube cover of Smooth Criminal went viral, proving that even cellists can rock out. They recorded and released their first album in 2011, and even performed with Elton John at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert in the summer of 2012. Their next album, set to release in early 2013, will include several guest artists on various rock covers, such as their collaboration with Vai, and Coldplay’s “Clocks” with pianist Lang Lang.
Their success and fan following just goes to show you don’t always have to follow the status quo – so start experimenting and have a little fun! You never know what might inspire you.
