My name is Bruce. I am a mechanical and manufacturing engineer at a large company in Silicon Valley, California. I have acquired a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering as well as a Masters in Engineering Management. I was interested in learning the programming language Python and signed up for tutoring lessons with Ahmed. After the first initial lessons, I then signed up for another thirty five lessons. I plan to continue lessons with Ahmed until I have gained significant proficiency in programming.
I am very pleased that I have met Ahmed and that I am taking lessons with him. He has helped me with computational skills and learning what programming is and why and how it works. While studying at Yale School of Music I was a teaching assistant for ‘Laptop Ensemble’ with Dr. Konrad Kaczmarek and for Yale’s guitar teacher Benjamin Verdery. Dr. Kaczmarek’s class focused on the study and performance of live electronic and electroacoustic music, primarily through the computer program Max (sometimes called Max/Msp). Topics included: the appropriation of music technology through software and hardware hacking, laptop-based production and performance tools, hybrid electroacoustic instruments and electronic chamber music, live audio processing, and novel approaches to notation and conducting. The students of the class were mostly graduate students from Yale and my responsibilities as a TA involved leading weekly workshops/labs to half the class. In these workshops/labs I assisted and guided the students with homework and final projects, conducted and coached ensembles and taught one class.
