My daughter was burnt out with her old piano teacher playing the same old songs over and over. Andrew has reinvigorated her love of playing again. He inspires her to play outside the box and getting her to practice is no longer a fight.

I am a worship pastor and having been singing and playing guitar for 15 years. I had never had any formal training before this. I wanted to learn some proper technique in order to protect my vocal instrument for my lifetime. I also wanted to work on some technical aspects of my singing and improve my skill and vocal control. Andrew has been a great instructor. I have learned a lot from him and I really enjoy our lessons.

I wasn't sure I could find a piano instructor that would help me with my busy schedule, but never hurts to ask. I am so glad that I did, because Andrew is amazing! He helped me with my schedule issues and has really inspired my 7 year old boy to really perform his best! Matthew has been been taking lessons for over a year now. He can't wait to see Andrew each week! Matthew has so much fun learning, that his little brother, Alex gets in on the action too. This has been the best experience for me and my two boys, learning how to play the piano! He brings the excitement and joy of learning!

Broadway Singing along with Broadway Piano Accompaniment is a major focus in the studio. All things Broadway is our motto and I work hard to ensure students are prepared for auditions and increase the level of their repertoire.

About Marty
Open up to your own unique voice. Play piano with energy and freedom.

"With singing, your body is your instrument. Helping you become all you can be as a performer is my number one goal. Protecting your voice is a close second as we work to strengthen your vocal range and the quality of your sound. As well, piano students will learn techniques that will speed up their comprehension of sight reading and/or improvisation. Teaching gives me an opportunity to energize my students and share with them historically proven techniques - as well as new ways of practicing and performing." - Marty

Originally from Boulder, Colorado, Marty moved to the Phoenix, AZ area eight years ago. Marty has over 20 years of performing and teaching experience. She studied for three years at the School of Music, University of Colorado, Boulder. She has studi
ed in the Masters program in vocal pedagogy and has performed in a variety of venues from blues to opera.

You will find her pedagogy technique to be respectful of the masters that have come before her. She is also open to new techniques from belting (in popular music), to microphone usage skills. As a student, you will be invited to perform in student recitals. You will be joining a team of dedicated, passionate performers who know the pleasure of performing.

As a beginning and intermediate piano instructor, Marty will guide you in the basics of sight reading. If you prefer, your piano classes will consist primarily of improvisation and chord progressions (you will also learn a little bit of sight reading which will help you 'flesh out' the melody). You will gain a solid foundation in music theory as well as an introduction into the vast world of music history. All age ranges are welcome, from the beginning elementary student, to the retiree just now finding the time to pursue their passion to perform.

I have authored a variety of music theory articles to assist you with your progress. We use these in the lessons to speed up your assimilation of the material. You will receive support via this literature and will quickly recognize how music theory supports your efforts with either singing or playing the piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
Your voice is unique to you. How you currently sing and what you want to sing will be the foundation from which we work. We will explore your voice and strengthen it via breath and physical exercises and practice with a repertoire that suits your individual tastes. We will also prepare your mind for quick and fluid articulation of your musical sensitivities.

Music theory and various musical explorations will assist you in moving forward in the most rapid manner possible. Whether you are twelve years old or sixty-five, you will find fun as well as perceptive methods for strengthening your passion for musical performance.

Since your body is your instrument, I am very conscious of the need to assist you in waking your body up in order to perform most successfully. The warm-up exercises include not only traditional vocalizes, but also methods for stretching your body and strengthening your diaphragmatic breathing. My students become very aware of any residual tension in their bodies. Singing is a wonderful way to get in touch with - and expel - any way in which you might 'close down' or 'tense down' your physical body. By working with a caring professional, you will learn how to freely share your unique talent with the world.

As we progress through the series of classes, you will use breathing exercises to activate the thoracic (throat & chest) and visceral (stomach) cavities. Your lessons will continue into specific vocalization exercises; such as singing scales, triads and specific exercises to assist you with fluid musical expression. Traditional ear training will also be a part of the lessons for intermediate students.

Many of the lessons I teach include a theme of working on confidence, vocal projection, breath support, finding and releasing tension, vocal range expansion, audition preparation and stage performance. All singing includes a core of story-telling. You will be encouraged to 'deconstruct' a song and discover the story, along with the emotions that are found in the lyrics of the songs you will sing.

______________________

In a similar fashion, my piano students will work on exercises to establish kinesthetic learning or muscle-memory. I have a unique method for sharing chord-progressions and piano improvisation. You will learn to quickly share music in a satisfying and pleasing manner that will surprise you and the people who hear your music. From your unique 'ear,' and via your new-found understanding of music theory, music will pour out of your piano.

As a piano student, you will also be exposed to lessons of the masters who have taught for hundreds of years. Sight-reading at the piano is a very enjoyable skill. It is also a foundation from which we will work (while taking in mind your particular interests). Again, whether a pre-teen or a senior citizen (or anyone in between!) who has finally found the time to explore their musical talent - you will find classes uniquely suited to your musical trajectory.

Your lessons will proceed as you acquire the ability to successfully perform your exercises and musical literature. Playing the piano fluidly and sharing your abilities with others is an amazing experience! It is my intent to ensure that your progress is swift, enjoyable and based on the work of the masters who have come before us! See you soon... Cordially, Marty W.

When traveling to student's homes - they need to have a piano. In some cases, students also need to buy their own voice or piano books. In the event that a vocal student prefers in-home lessons and does not have a piano, I can bring an electric piano to the lessons (let's talk!).

I have been taking lessons from Marty for about 4 months. I was looking for someone that could come to my house. I had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke about 18 months ago and needed someone special. Marty is definitely that person. She is kind, patient and understands my disability. I took lessons as a child and come from a musical family and she has restored confidence in my ability to play the piano. My hand/brain coordination has improved greatly. She has incorporated some music theory techniques that really work for me. I am very lucky to have found Marty.

She has played 7 instruments proficiently including piano, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, ukulele, trombone, recorder, and voice (also an instrument). As a child, Karen took private instruction in piano and classical guitar. She sang and played guitar in her first band in the fifth grade! In high school she played trombone in band, bass guitar in stage band, and sang in the high school choir and stage chorus. In high school, she also sang and played acoustic and bass guitar in a rock band called the 6 pack, who performed for school dances and community events. Karen has had training in many instruments, she has had the most training in voice.

As an adult, Karen has sung extensively in church choirs, women's ensembles, and has been a featured vocal soloist at church services, Christian retreats, and women's ministry events. She was extensively involved in vocal music at Grace Community Christian Church, where she was the singer and guitarist leading and teaching songs to women Bible study groups, preschoolers at vacation Bible school, and Kids Praise Club for elementary aged children. She implements structure and organization, but is not overly strict and harsh. She believes in encouraging, loving, and imparting knowledge with her students so that they will maximize their potentiality and their inner musical stars will shine.
Karen teaches piano, voice, guitar, and music theory for beginning through intermediate (for voice she teaches beginning through advanced). The curriculum that Karen uses is varied according to the student's personality and learning level. She uses her vast knowledge and information from her education and past experiences, and also Alfred Essentials of Music Theory, Alfred's Instructional books, Hal Leonard Pro-vocal Series, Faber Piano Adventures for all levels, and other resources. She also uses an assignment lesson plan book so thatĀ each student will know her clear objectives, what is expected of them and so that communication is established with the student's parents if the student is under 18. Additionally, Karen usesĀ incentives, aĀ point system, and rewards for self-discipline, consistent practicing, musical accomplishment and growth, and a good attitude.
Karen's students learn and perform remarkably well because of her very loving, organized, and comprehensive teaching style. They progress in amazing ways on a weekly and monthly basis. They look forward to coming to their lessons because they are treated with such respect and care. They know that Karen has such a passion and love for music, which is so contagious and is passed on to them. I have worked with a number of Broadway performers, helping them find dynamic and compelling ways of fine tuning their performances.

About Amy
I have been a voice, acting, and teacher of creative arts for over 25 years. My background includes ten years of classical voice training with Maestro Julio Berrocal, as well as vocal training through the Feldenkrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting, I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. I received a B.A. For comparative literature and creative writing at the State University of New York at Purchase and have recently completed my Master's degree in social work at Walden University.
I believe, within all of us, Is the ability to express something distinctive and original. I work to help students discover their unique voice, whether it be through singing, acting, or writing. I share with my students an array of tools to gain the ability
and confidence to achieve their goals. I empathize deeply with the challenges students may face when pursuing a life in the creative and performing arts, having worked professionally in those areas for most of my adult life. I believe it is the teacher's job to respect each student's individual process of learning.
My students have gone on to become recording artists, Broadway performers, movie actors, Blues and cabaret artists, and published writers.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice
I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the student's individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal technique exercises come next. When the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that students be a part of the process of picking material since the more personally they respond to the material the more apt they are to become engaged in their lessons. After three to six months beginning students will have gained an understanding of the fundamentals of breathing, relaxation, and basic performance skills. With more advanced students the focus will be on range extension and the on-going development of vocal style through song interpretation and performance related exercises.
Acting
As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on.
Creative and Lyric Writing
I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the most compelling.

*** Studio Equipment ***
home- 10 minutes away from Manhattan with piano, seating for parents
-practice studio seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a piano, cd/mp3 player and an large library of songbooks to work from. The student should bring sheet music of songs they want to work on and a recording device.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching how to sing rock, pop, musical theater, jazz, cabaret, and blues without hurting the voice as well as method acting instruction.

pare choir & solo songs for upcoming concerts, gain entrance into college voice programs, learn how to "belt" properly without strain, or simply perfect their favorite karaoke songs!

I only work with students ages 12+ in my home studio because I believe that children under age 12 receive the most benefit by singing in a choir with their peers, rather than taking private lessons for their young, under-developed voices. Better instrument options for younger kids are piano, violin, or guitar, which require finger coordination and theory comprehension in order to sound good (singing just doesn't). I assign music theory homework to all my students, as being able to read music well is essential to becoming a well-rounded, independent musician (yes, singers are musicians, too!).

I also very much enjoy working with adults of all ages, and specialize in rehabilitating voices struggling from harmful vocal habits by finding & using their "resonant voice." I believe that a strong foundation in technique not only makes singing in any genre possible, but also ensures healthy singing habits for life!

Ginni has been teaching piano and singing for 21 years. Whether you are a beginner, an intermediate or advanced she will help you to learn and have fun making music!

Technique is key! As a professional musician Ginni knows the importance of good technique. Great technique gives the performer confidence and the ability to excel.

Ginni's piano and singing students are taught how to use their bodies to perform at their best. Some of the methods that Ginni uses come from her studies at university, personal study and from watching, listening to and performing with world class musicians. From all of this experience, Ginni developed a proven method for teaching piano and singing that helps students progress quickly an
d perform with ease.

Performance anxiety can be overcome. Using the tools that Ginni has developed, students relax, focus and enjoy their performing experience.

Reading music is important for pianists and singers. Ginni helps beginning through advanced students to more fully understand written music and quickly sight read it.

Itā€™s important to perform songs that you enjoy. Students help choose supplemental songs that they love whether that be contemporary pop, traditional classical, Broadway, jazz, country or any other genre that they would like to learn.

Ginniā€™s piano and singing students increase their range, power, agility, control, confidence and expressiveness through technical exercises, scales, arpeggios, applying technique and lots of encouragement! Students grow the more that they share their talents. Students of Ginniā€™s are invited to participate in recitals, the Arizona Study Program and are guided through auditions, solo and ensemble performances.

Ginni uses the latest technology to help her students, whether by finding a song online for a student to listen to and learn from, transposing a piece on keyboard, improving the sound of an iphone song by plugging it into a speaker system or by using a mic to learn microphone technique.

A century old stand up piano may not be cutting edge technology but, Ginniā€™s sounds beautiful and her students enjoy playing it. Music is such a gift. So is participating in and watching the growth and progression of others.

Ginni asks her students to remember three things:
Try, Relax and Have Fun!

About Frances T.

Having enjoyed success as a lead in ASU's 2015 production of the Britten opera "Owen Wingrave" and as the title role in their 2016 production of "The Drowsy Chaperone" (for which I received an AriZoni Award of Excellence nomination) I have recent experience with auditioning and performing. I also have even more recent experience with failed auditioning so I'm there to train and coach and then celebrate OR commiserate. I'm quite ready and able to be there every step of the way.

Is your belt weak? Is your mix non-existent? Do you wonder why composers even write their songs spanning more than one register? Do composers hate singers?! What is it?! I understand these frustrations. Let's have a shared love/hate relationship with Musical Theater composers.

About Frances
Hullo! I'm Frances and I've been teaching private voice lessons since 2008. In the past my students have been cast in roles in high school and community theater, they have participated in Regional Choir, and auditioned successfully for collegiate music programs.

I received my training at Belmont University, graduating in 2008 with a degree in Classical Vocal Performance. After teaching privately and auditioning for a few years I realized I wanted to return to school so I could be better equipped to teach. I spent two years at ASU refining my own voice while experiencing new teaching techniques. I finished my advanced degree in May, 2016 and now have a Master of Music: Vocal Performance and Pedagogy.

I believe in a relaxed atmosphere for lessons and that if you're not having fun overall then something needs to change. Strengthening
the voice through proper, healthy technique will be challenging but should also be enjoyable.

I am also now offering private piano lessons which I've taught off and on since 2004. My own lessons spanned the four years between eight and twelve and then a year at Belmont University, where I passed piano proficiency as an entering freshman and was able to take privately with a professor trained at Julliard. My theory work from both my undergrad and graduate schooling will allow me to more adequately teach that side of piano performance and I am excited to add piano lessons to what I offer.

Frances trained me for 5 years in both Broadway voice and Classical voice. She adapted her teaching to work with my strengths and weaknesses and knew exactly what I needed whether I was singing a piece for church or a production that I was in. In addition to adapting her teaching style she also always knew which songs were appropriate for my voice style and which songs I should learn in order to push myself and grow. Not only does she know her stuff but lessons are full of laughter and they are one of the most enjoyable parts of learning to sing.

I was preparing to audition for ASU's Music Therapy program. After working with Francis for a semester, having had no prior private voice instruction, I passed my audition! She's great to work with, pushes you to be the best that you can be,and knows her stuff! I absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a voice teacher.

I have been helping people realize their potential as a singer for over 5 years now. Along with being a vocal coach and teacher, I have over 10 years of performance experience in a variety of styles. In terms of jazz, I have studied with jazz greats such as Sunny Wilkinson, members of The New York Voices, Rosana Eckert, and more! I have also worked with many great pop and musical theater instructors such as Matt Edwards and Edrie Means. In 2018 I received my session 1 certification in contemporary commercial music from Shenandoah University.
Along with teaching a variety of styles, I am also a huge advocate of incorporating vocal health into my lessons. After recovering from vocal nodules in 2015 and studying with renowned speech-language pathologist Marci Rosenberg, I make sure my vocalists have the tools they need in order to stay vocally healthy. Every student is different, and so the path that each singer takes will be different than another. But with hard work, persistence, an ...

About Katherine
Hello! I am a performer, voice teacher, and vocal coach who strives to help others experience their potential as a musician. I have studied with some jazz greats such as Sunny Wilkinson, The New York Voices, Rosana Eckert, Greg Jasperse, and more! I have also worked with many great pop and musical theater instructors such as Matt Edwards and Edrie Means. In 2018 I received my level 1 certification in contemporary commercial music from Shenandoah University. I have also studied vocal health with the world-renowned speech-pathologist and educator, Marci Rosenberg.

One of my greatest joys is helping others realize their potential as a vocalist. I strongly believe that with hard work and training, everyone can learn to sing well. My goal is to give students the tools they need in order to express themselves through singing. I work with be
ginning to advanced voice students.

While helping singers realize their potential, a big focus of my lessons includes vocal health. I want to give my students the knowledge they need in order to maintain their vocal health - whether at home or on the road. This will ultimately help them as a vocalist, musician, and a performer.

I look forward to talking with you more, and helping you reach your goals as a singer and musician!
