I am a professional cellist with years of performing and teaching.
I attended the Jacobs School of Music for my undergraduate and masters' degrees and was a graduate teaching assistant. I also received my Stott Pilates Teaching Certification while at IU and incorporate postural alignment into my teaching. I have Suzuki certification and work on a strong technical foundation, which both facilitates performing and frees us up to explore non-traditional techniques and other genres.

Most importantly, I strive to nurture the love and passion for music and cello and I am here to help you achieve your musical goals.

About Maria

I teach cellists of all ages and abilities and tailor the lesson to the individual. Lessons include standard repertoire, and if requested, non-traditional styles as well. I have experience with solo repertoire, orchestra, chamber music, and folk music, and can help you develop your ear and even sin

I have been studding strings from age 8, starting on violin. I switched over to cello when I turned 13 and received scholarships to potentially attend the University of Pacific in Stockton, CA. I instead studied cello at the University of California, Santa Barbara where I had the opportunity to perform in the university's symphonic orchestra and teach private lessons to college students as well. I have experience teaching from the Suzuki method, but consider myself to be a flexible educator and teach many methods according to the needs of the student.

About Megan

Hello! Thank you for stopping by and viewing my profile. I currently live in Colorado Springs, CO and I am pursuing my Masters of Music degree in clarinet performance from The University of Denver. I hold a teaching credential in music from The California State University, Sacramento, and a BA in M

"Jessica gives really good lessons! Over the past year, I've improved a LOT with intonation, shifting, and posture, which I most certainly wouldn't have done without her help. She's really patient and makes lessons enjoyable with her chill, fun personality, yet makes sure you don't slack off. Although I haven't had any other cello teachers to compare her to, she definitely has raised my standards for any I might have in the future."

"Jonny is an excellent teacher because of his own skill, experience, and prowess on the cello. He is patient with his students, but he also has high expectations that motivate his students to work hard. What sets him apart from other teachers is that he is also fun and engaging, with a dynamic personality. Jonny has worked with some of the area's finest cellists and has performed in many different capacities. This gives him a broader background for more well-rounded instruction. I would recommend Jonny as a cello teacher to anyone!"

"Laura is a wonderful cello teacher. Our daughter (10 y.o.) has been playing cello for 2 years. We just moved to NYC and needed a cello teacher. We found Laura and our daughter just had her first lesson with Laura. They reviewed skills, practiced pieces, ear training and Laura provided appropriate level workbooks at the end for home practice. Our daughter said "I can't wait to work with Laura again next week." Proof enough for us."

"Johnny has been a fantastic teacher for my 12-year old beginning cello player. He managed to keep even the introductory lessons (parts of the instrument, posture, etc.) engaging and now that she is actually making music it is even better. Not only is Johnny incredibly talented and knowledgeable, but he also has a knack for explaining concepts to beginners. My daughter truly looks forward to her weekly lessons!"

"We love Mr. Heaton. My son is 13 and on the autism spectrum and so focus can be hard for him, he was really struggling in school based orchestra because they couldn't give him one on one attention. He also struggles with fine motor delays (which is why we chose a string instrument). We've been doing lessons with Nicholas for almost a year now. Nicholas always takes his time with my child and is extremely patient. My son has gained SO much confidence since we began taking these private lessons. They work on not just learning to play cello but learning how to really understand/read the music and making sure that the techniques he's learning (hand positions, ways of sitting and moving) are all exactly what he needs to progress successfully in his orchestra and going forward. My son enjoys his lessons and I feel like we always get our money's worth. I can't wait to see where he will be another year from now working so closely with such an amazing musician and teacher."

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
