The techniques that I employ will allow the singer more ease of vocal production and therefore an enhanced quality of sound. This leads to an Improvement in both tone and pitch.

The voice is our first instrument, and accordingly, our most natural one to express the creative impulses of our soul.
However, there are several challenges we need to overcome in order to make it really shine.
The first is that we hear our own voice differently than others hear it - from "inside our head." So it takes some practice to learn different ways of hearing ourselves.
The second challenge is that most music doesn't happen in isolation, but with other people's involvement. So unless you plan to sing "a capella" (without instrumental accompaniment) and just for your own enjoyment, you need to learn how to relate what you sing to other sounds. This requires a good deal of practice and it is certainly easier with the help of a skilled teacher to help you learn not only what to listen for, but how to control your voice to make it do what you want.
Then there are technical refinements like breath control, articulation, intonation, projection, resonance, ear training, etc.

The voice is an instrument and, like any instrument, you need to understand how each part of your instrument works to create music. You also need to know the best way to take care of your instrument so that you don't permanently damage it.

I teach vocal techniques and exercises to help my students become a better singer. My students will learn how to use their diaphragm; how to use dynamics; how to project; how to build up their lung capacity; how to sing in a clear and articulate manner; how to sing various different types of music; how to control their voice; and how to develop their natural ear for music as well as showmanship.

About Tina

A recent transplant from Los Angeles, California; I have been singing professionally for more than forty years as well as having leading roles in local theatre productions. I have also been assistant director, musical director, choreographer, costumer and writer for many productions from West Side

I've taken her class for over a few years now and I can't even describe how much I have grown because of her. I first was very mousy and quiet but I am now achieving and wanting to tackle songs I never thought I could because of her. I recommend her to everyone I know. In all seriousness people around me have noticed a huge change and there may be days where I don't notice it until she asks if I caught that I was able to hit it.

"Kristin does an amazing job of meeting me where my abilities and needs are. She listens to what I want out of the lessons, but also challenges me to stretch beyond what I think I can do... and I'm often delightfully surprised. She also teaches me a great deal of music theory as we work through singing which is wonderful. Her guidance in helping me use my "instrument" properly has been so valuable. And she is very patient and intuitive in the process."

"Arlys is a truly gifted teacher and singer with a contagious passion for singing and music!!

I began taking weekly singing lessons with Arlys on November 23,2013. As a result of our lessons my voice has quickly transformed from struggling to stay in key and hitting notes to a strong and confident instrument to accompany my guitar playing. Arlys is a amazingly gifted teacher and singer!! She has a true passion for music and art which was transparent from the moment I met her. She is very friendly and approachable. With in our lessons she does a excellent job of blending the scientific aspects of singing with proper body mechanics and posture with the elements of emotion and artistic expression. In addition she tailors each lesson to my individual understanding and ability. It is truly a pleasure to learn from Arlys! Our lessons are equal parts, vocal exercises, singing and laughing! I would highly recommend Arlys to singers of all levels and abilities. Thank you so much Arlys I truly appreciate all the wonderful work you do!!"

"I've already written a review for Candida, but that one was rather rushed and I think it doesn't do her justice. She is an incredible teacher and has such a bright personality. She works methodically on the technique and explains all the physical workings of the voice and how it's connected to the whole body, there's a lot of foundational work which I think is very important. But at the same time she lets you choose the songs to work on; and I think learning to properly sing things you really enjoy is the greatest motivation. She's discovered a voice in me that I never knew I had. Today before our lesson I was tired and feeling a bit lost - everyone has those days I think. 45 minutes later, I'm feeling fresh and inspired."

Singing in San Antonio: How to Get Started

by Joshua M. - San Antonio singing teacher (https://takelessons.com/profile/joshua-m50)

Interested in taking singing lessons in San Antonio? San Antonio has one of the most culturally diverse music scenes in the country. Visiting one of the many music venues, festivals, Broadway shows, regional/community theaters, or open mic nights will give you an overwhelming view of what the city has to offer. Situated just south of the “live music capitol of the world,” Austin, TX, San Antonio is sure to have a plethora of opportunity to make that newfound voice heard!

Here are a few resources to check out as you’re taking singing lessons in San Antonio:

Perform:

Open Mic Nights - As the 7th largest city by population in America, San Antonio has plenty of amateur mic nig

...

hts hosted all throughout the city, on every night of the week. Getting up and playing an original or cover song for a few friends (or a few hundred) is a great way to be heard and hone your performance skills. This is a great opportunity to put your ongoing training to the test. Stay informed and book your time on openmicsanantonio.com.

Audition - San Antonio is rich with a thriving community musical theatre infrastructure. Take advantage of upcoming auditions, and take your Broadway singing to a deeper, more specific level. Sheldon Vexler Theatre, Boerne Community Theatre, Cameo Theatre, and the Woodlawn Theatre are among the most well-known in town. For those of you with a few years of experience under your belt, check out the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, where they open operas, ballets, musicals, concerts, and plays cast from a vast array of local talent. A great way to learn Broadway-style singing is to work through a specific show, identifying certain vocal colors, styles, and timbre, connecting the voice to the action of the piece. Stay informed of upcoming auditions through SATHEATRE (satheatre.com/eauditions).

Another great way to learn about singing and performing in general is to take in a concert. San Antonio is very rich with live music event venues. Ranging from the outdoor hipster bars to the chic and elegant concert halls, we have one of everything. One of the most well-known places featuring local talent in the city is Sam’s Burger Joint. After it was voted Best Live Music Venue in 2010, Sam’s renovated their already amazing setup, and has become, in my opinion, one of the best music venues in the country. They host shows up to five times a week, and it is a great way to meet other musicians growing in the same way you are. Check out their up-and-coming acts on samsburgerjoint.com.

Come and join one of the fastest-growing music cities in the country! Perform at the old stomping grounds of Christopher Cross, Ernest Tubb, and George Strait. Become part of the scene that so many songs are written about. Taking singing lessons in San Antonio is only the first step -- the next is to share your ongoing cultivation with a city who loves and survives on music!

How "Breathy Voice" is Created | The Danger of Breathy Singing

Singing in a “breathy voice” has a mixed reputation among singers and educators, and for good reason: it can be risky. In this article, we’ll discuss the mechanics of singing with a breathy voice, if it’s harmful, and how use to the technique safely. Remember the spectacularly cheesy film “A Walk to Remember”? In this 2002 film, Mandy Moore sings a pop ballad called “Only Hope” using excessive breathiness to create a fragile, emotionally charged aura for her character. …
