Hello, my name is Brenda! It is nice to meet you.

I have been teaching private lessons for over a decade, and have my B.M. in Music Education from William Paterson University. I was a voice major and flute/piano double minor, and I just completed my Masters of Music in Performance with the Opera Institute at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University.

Although I do work with students of all ages, I specialize in working with younger children and retired adults!

I primarily teach voice, flute, piano, music theory and history and have over 10 years of experience teaching in both individual and group settings. I also work on audition and performance preparation, do speech/accent work and more. I am constantly studying different teaching methods so I can develop a custom program that best fits your learning styles and inco
rporates what you already know, with what you will need to learn in order to achieve your goals.

Gfire has been teaching and performing music full-time for over 17 years. Based in Austin, Texas, the "Live Music Capital of the World," she offers voice, piano, songwriting, yoga, folk guitar, and DJ'ing lessons to students from 5-105 and she specializes in sculpting her lessons to the strengths and desires of each individual student. As a teacher, Gfire works with students of all levels and all areas of interest. In October 2007, Gfire became the only vocal teacher in the Western Hemisphere to gain full certification in the Science of Singing, developed by Ernest G. White of London, England. Her unique voice training program, entitled "Yoga for the Voice," combines this knowledge of the Science of Singing with ancient yoga breathing techniques. This technique allows each voice student to develop a "vocal tune-up" for the voice AND to discover what the natural singing range is and how to use the voice as effectively as possible. With the internet SKYPE technology, Gfire teaches voice students all over the world, from Switzerland to the U.K. to New Zealand to New York.

Her vocal students have sung in touring rock bands, on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, in successful auditions, in karaoke clubs, in coffee houses and folk clubs, at weddings and for their own enjoyment amongst family and friends. Gfire was also the main voice instructor and one of 3 main piano teachers at the Austin branch of Mars Music (now defunct) for 3 1/2 years. As a singer-songwriter, Gfire continues to write, record and perform with some of the best musicians and engineers in the world, including engineer Stuart Sullivan (Willie Nelson, Sublime, Meat Puppets, etc.), Hammond organ player Ian McLagen (Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart), cellist John Hagen (Lyle Lovett), fiddle/mandolin player Warren Hood (The Waybacks), bassist George Reiff (Ray Wylie Hubbard) and banjo picker Danny Barnes (Bad Livers, Dave Matthews).

Voice lessons - I have created a unique and wonderful vocal method, "Yoga for the Voice," which combines ancient yoga breathing exercises with special vocal exercises to give you a "complete vocal tune-up." These techniques are simple, effective and easily-learned by any student of the voice, from about age 5-105. I love to help you learn to apply these wonderful techniques to learning the songs you wish to learn - whether they are pop, r 'n' b, folk, singer-songwriter, rock, country, opera, musical theater, jazz, etc. "Yoga for the Voice" is just as effective for professional speakers, such as teachers, lawyers, clergymen or actors - we just use a range of notes that is smaller than a singer's range, and we focus on using your speaking voice as effectively and efficiently as possible.

In 3-6 months, you will be able to:

1. master the "breath of fire" and "one-minute breath" - the BEST yoga breaths for singers!
2. master the "sinus humming exercises" - identifying where EACH note in your range originates in your own head
3. master the "full-body exercises" - traditional singing exercises on "mah, mee, moh, moo, meh" - so that you can move easily between your chest voice, middle voice, and head voice
4. master 2-10 songs or more, depending on your level and the level of difficulty of each song - being able to sing each song in TUNE, with feeling, and having a blast doing it!!
5. if you wish, you can perform your song(s) at one of my voice and piano recitals - on a REAL Austin stage!!

Piano lessons - I teach a wide range of piano styles at levels from beginner to early advanced, beginning around age 5. Whether you want to learn classical, rock, blues, country, boogie-woogie, or other styles of piano and keyboard playing, I will sculpt your lesson plan so that you have a great foundation in technique AND you learn the styles and songs you wish to play.

In 3-6 months, you will be able to:

1. master the Leschetizky, hand massage, and isometric warm-up exercises - the BEST piano warm-ups!
2. depending on your level, master Hanon exercises 1-12, major and minor scales, major and minor arpeggios
3. for beginners, you will be able to play with BOTH hands on the treble and bass clefs - at the same time!!
4. master the I-IV-V progression in 3-12 keys, depending on your level - so that you can play blues, rock, country, boogie-woogie, and ragtime songs!!
5. master 4-20 songs or more, depending on your level and the level of difficulty of each song (classical songs tend to take more time to master) - being able to play each song with great technique, with feeling, and having a blast doing it!!
6. if you wish, you can perform your song(s) at one of my voice and piano recitals - on a REAL Austin stage!!

Songwriting lessons - I will teach you how to create a great song, in the style you wish to write in. Country songs, pop songs, rock tunes, r'n' b, folk, etc. - all of these genres have "unwritten rules" about how to put together an effective song. We will utilize special songwriting exercises and tools to help you learn to be a wonderful songwriter.

DJ lessons - I teach beat matching, turntable fine-tuning and repertoire selection to help you become the DJ you aspire to be. I own crates and crates of vinyl records and CDs, and I have DJ'd all over the world to enthusiastic crowds, so I can teach you to attain a real joy and skill in the art of turntablism.

I have developed "Yoga for the Voice" - a combination of my 18 years of studying and receiving certification in the "Science of Singing" (as taught by Ernest George White of London, England) and my 10 years experience and certification in yoga, specifically ancient yoga breathing techniques. Gfire was very encouraging, even though my voice was barely audible at times.
She had very effective advice for training my voice to go higher ("less effort on high notes"). She incorporated singing to help my speaking voice and overall made me feel like she really cared about my improvement. I will use her again next year, and feel like our phone lessons were quite successful.

I have been taking Liam's Tai Chi/ Qi Gong class for nearly two years now. He is a dynamic teacher that is sensitive to different types of learning paces and styles (both eastern and western) and employs both in his classes. His explanations are simple and he always relates the movement back to its origin as a martial arts defense/offensive move which helps one establish the intention behind the movement. I have learned yang short form and chen style short form from him. I would highly recommend that you take his class if you are interested in beginning or continuing a tai chi practice. Through my practice I have found a healthy way to manage stress and anxiety.

My name is Sarah and I am honored you have chosen to look at my profile. Finding the right teacher is so important! A little about me:
I graduated from Lees-McRae College in May 2017 with a BFA in musical theater and a minor in art and design.
I was training American Sign Language at Northern Virginia Community College back in 2012. In 2015 I studied under a ASL master from Gallaudet University.
My goal is to help you learn what you are craving to know! I try to not charge too high for lessons, I know that this is something that is for fun and is not always a possibility so I try to keep it at a lowish price so that everyone has a chance to learn. I am very flexible to schedules. I am willing to have a regular time or switching it up weekly; I have students who travel for a living so they are always on a differ
ent time zone; no matter the obstacle I will make it work for you!
Something that is great to know about me is that I never stop training, pursuing growth and knowledge. I read books in these various fields to learn more and more, take master classes, and train with my own vocal coaches. I think art - on any platform, is a great way to get out of your head, free your mind, and open up yourself. So this can be for professional training, a hobby you always wanted to pursue, or a dream you wanted to chase after.

In my class with you, or you child, I will make an individualized lesson plan that focus around what skills you already have, what skills you aim to improve/gain, and how you learn. I am very familiar with the fact that we are ALL different, which means we will all learn DIFFERENTLY. I am willing to explain something in as many ways as one needs in order to understand. I like to think of my lessons as a “safe place” to explore, have fun, grow, and be okay with making mistakes. We will always start with the basics, understand the core of the craft - for example in singing that would be our vocal anatomy and how it all connects together. I use props to help make the concept more visual and graspable as well as diagrams. This is not something someone will pick up in one lesson, so don’t come in saying “I can’t”, you can, you just have to learn HOW. I will show you the how. Remember, this is a learning process, we must embrace each step of our growth.

Some background of how I came to do what I do:
I have been working professionally for theatres for five years now; which has had me living in various towns in NC, OH, AR, and traveling nationwide for tours. I have a lot of experience under my belt for my years. I began taking performance classes as young as age 2 when I started ballet, then I began singing in choir in third grade. I started being in awe of sign language when I saw an interpreter working her magic around age ten and I asked my mom for a sign language book. Expanding my knowledge is what I do for fun, so when you pick me you pick someone who is constantly growing and learning more which will ultimately benefit the student.

I teach a variety of classes that, for the most part, circle around the arts! Some of my classes include but are not limited to: Acting, Child Acting, Improv Audition Prep, Various styles of “Singing” classes, Ear Training, Musical Theatre, Music Performance, Various “Art” classes, Facial Exercises (Which is great for singers, and those who speak a lot day to day to help relieve tension in the face), and more!
For an explanation on each class, I will be recording a video that describes them and posting that on here soon! There is a video trailer of me singing and dancing that is currently available. I use elements of classical Hatha, Ashtanga, and Iyengar Yoga with a focus of the energy within to deliver a well rounded yoga practice. I approach yoga with love, openness, humor, and authenticity, and spread these same teachings to my students. My private classes will be catered to the specific students needs (I.e., more fitness based, more mindfulness based, more injury focused, flexibility focus, etc). I am experienced in teaching all levels of yoga students- from beginner to advanced practitioner. I am currently teaching 10 group classes in the Denver area at various locations, including studios, gyms and college Rec centers. I am a 200 hour certified Hatha Yoga teacher (since 2016) but have been a student of yoga since 2007.

About Jenna
Jenna has been practicing yoga sporadically since her early 20’s; however, when she was 28 years old she hit a metaphorical wall. Working a job that wasn’t meant for her, struggling with positive body image, weight loss and self-love, she began to crave something deeper for her life. It was then she dove deep into the practice of yoga, meditation, and, most importantly, self-love. She quit her job, left her friends and family, and took off to India on a path of self-discovery. Yoga has since become a way of life, implementing the tools of her practice on and off the mat.

Jenna really knows yoga. Her classes are fun, and challenging, and she always helps improve my posture by making proper adjustments. I would highly recommend her as an instructor.

I am so grateful to have finally found such an intuitive and well rounded teacher!!!! I had my first private with Jenna last week and it was a transformative experience to say the least. You can tell she has done her research both on and off the mat. She does a wonderful job of seamlessly integrating traditional aspects of yoga with a creative twist that sparked my curiosity. I felt safe and nurtured as I was taken beyond my limits in one of the best classes I’ve ever taken. I was nervous about being in the spot light but largely benefited from the one on one experinece. I’ve already booked my next session and recommend you do too!

During class, we will focus on breath. Breath-centered yoga can have a number of benefits for your body, such as relaxation, warming up the core, and getting your body ready to support you in various poses.
Yoga can always be customized to meet the needs of each individual (That's my favorite thing about it!). So, depending on what you hope to get out of our time together, I can teach a more gentle flow or something a bit more intense. Either way, my goals are for you to spend time getting to know yourself and your body better, have fun, release some stress, and feel better at the end of the lesson.

I enjoy yoga because no matter how I'm feeling on a given day, I can always do yoga. By focusing on breath and doing what feels good, I find that I can go farther and obtain greater physical (and mental) benefit than just pushing myself to my physical limits. That is what I want to share with others.

I have taken several classes with Erin, in both large-group and private settings but, while I have attended other yoga classes before at a couple of yoga centers in Brooklyn, I have enjoyed Erin's classes the most. Her approach to yoga is centered around what an individual is able and comfortable to do during the class. In other yoga classes, I have sometimes felt like everyone is miles ahead of me and I'm just trying to keep up with what is going on. In Erin's classes, I think she does a great job of keeping momentum going for the whole class while tailoring the flow for each person depending on their abilities. Erin manages to be very knowledgeable and encouraging while never seeming pretentious or pushy, and I really appreciate that. I have consistently felt that I walk away from Erin's classes more open, relaxed, balanced, and fit. I'm happy to give her a great recommendation.
