Hallie C.

Tampa, FL

About Hallie

Have you always wanted to learn how to play an instrument, but never knew where to begin? I can help you learn your instrument, and learn how to play the music that you love whether it be flute, piccolo, violin, viola, or cello. I can help you enjoy music.

Having grown up in a musical family with my mother a professional violinist, I have been exposed to the joys of music since childhood. I learned how to play piano at the age of three, and later percussion and string instruments from when I was six years old. In high school I joined the band playing flute. I loved playing flute and pic
colo so much that I decided to take this as my career and went to Interlochen Arts Academy where I excelled in my performance. I later went to Prague Conservatory and Czech Budweiss Conservatory and played with the Prague Film Orchestra. Even more recently I have been a teacher for the Flutes and Strings classes at Unison World School in Dehradun, India.

As you can see, having great international exposure to music I can teach you how to become more well-rounded in the beauty that is music.

*** Lesson Details ***
My approach to teaching varies with the age level of each student. With younger students, imitation is often one of the best methods of learning and I prefer the Suzuki method for students up to age 8, especially with strings. For older children and adults, learning music notation and basic music theory for a full understanding of musical language are more important to get them to the level where they can learn any music that they want to play for fun. For students who wish to excel in their school band, a more practical approach with technique specific warm-ups and exercises seems to be the best in general.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught in the living room which includes music stands, sheet music, metronome, and seating for parents/students. No pets. Parking in lot.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide metronome, and tools for minor instrument repair. Students should provide their own music stands and sheet music.

*** Specialties ***
Suzuki method, Taffanel et Gaubert, Patricia George

This review is based off of our 1st lesson. I don't feel like one lesson is enough to give an in depth review on someone but since Takelessons asked for one, I wanted to provide my feedback. For a first time skype lesson, a 9 year old who has had no training on a cello but has been able to fumble around and can some what play a waltz-this lesson deserved a 5 star. Due to it being the first lesson and having no one to compare Hallie too, I can't say its a 5-best instructor ever. Now what matters is this-Hallie is professional, clear, articulate, engaging, encouraging, and upbeat. I liked the fact that Hallie wanted to hear my daughters waltz and used that song as a way to teach technique-bow hold, positioning the cello etc etc. My daughter was happy to be able to work on a song she already knows to get posture and technique understood better before diving into one of the books recommended to have on hand. My daughter later after that lesson, took it upon herself to practice another 30 minutes in front of a mirror. When ever a child takes it upon themselves to work on what was taught to them earlier that day, it is a sign that the teacher was inspiring and effective!

Music Performance · In home
Hallie's dedication and passion is second to none. I had the honor to see her at Sewanee conducting a symphony performing a piece that she composed. In order to put that production together, she had to conceive of the piece, write the parts for each performer, and teach all the musicians how it should sound through rehearsal. It was amazing. That same weekend, she was the soloist performer for a flute concerto and you could see that she really knows her stuff! Her ability to communicate her vast musical knowledge is what makes her a fabulous teacher. I highly recommend Hallie for your music lessons.

He is an excellent teacher! Just because you play drums doesn't mean you can teach drums. My son has shown so much growth working with Glenn. He is truly a great teacher and I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Great Drum Instructor !!

Great Drum Instructor!! He has a true passion for teaching and identifies quickly with his students.

My son has been taking lessons from him since the age of 13 and he learned more in his first year than most kids learn through many years of instruction.

He is a personable, friendly and talented professional !! I would highly recommend him for anyone!
