"Experienced voice teacher of 10 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages 13 and up. I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong vocal technique. I am a proponent of Functional Singing which focuses on how the vocal mechanism works. It allows both teacher and singer to explore the voice and its associated muscle systems. Singers learn to embrace their voice, not one that is falsified through imitation.

About Shannon

Shannon teaches functional singing which aims to improve vocal range, stamina, endurance, flexibility, and most importantly: healthy singing. Shannon received her M.M. in Vocal Performance at Louisiana State University. She has performed extensively in Europe and the U.S. in opera, musical thea

Shannon is a great instructor and just a cool, funny person. She makes learning fun and even when she's being critical (that's what I pay her for, btw), she does it in such a way as to truly be helpful. I thoroughly enjoy my lessons. It's a highlight of my week, and my friends, who I play music and sing with, have noticed a real improvement in my singing voice since I've been working with her. I highly recommend hiring her as your vocal coach. FYI, I am a male in my 50's who just started singing in recent years. I wish I had been working with her since I was in my teens or 20's.

Shannon is undoubtedly an expert in her field! She's especially good at identifying mistakes and helping you adjust them. She has a great attitude and makes it easy to overcome the anxiety that you may feel from trying something new. Overall, she's awesome!

Hey there explorer!

So you thought the violin is only meant to play Classical music? Think again!
With over 13 years of experience in improvisation in many different musical styles on the violin, I will show you the methods to explore and teach yourself any type of musical style you'd wish to play!

Although being mainly a Jazz violinist, I have performed and recorded in many different musical genres and improvisation styles including Blues, Trad Jazz, Rock, Indian Classical music, Bluegrass, Jewish Klezmer music and more. Since students spend most of their crucial development time individually in the practice room, as a teacher my biggest ambition is to teach my students 'how to be your own teacher' (I know it's kinda shooting myself in the foot :] ). Based on my 20 years experience playing the violin and other instruments, my training in Alexander technique, teaching artistry, psychology, philosophy and meditation, I've accumulated a set of methods and ideas about how to ...

About Omer

An award-winning Jazz violinist and a graduate of The Newschool of Jazz, I would love to offer you my unique approach to learning this incredible and versatile instrument. Through ear training and improvisation we will learn how to master the instrument whether you're interested in playing classica

Omer has been an excellent teacher! I’ve over heard several lessons with him and my son and I’m always impressed by the breath of knowledge he has. In just a few weeks my son has been inspired to play the piano for hours at a time. Originally Omer was going to teach my son violin but they switched to piano so that they could explore their common interest in composing music for film. I am immensely pleased with him and recommend him wholeheartedly!

First lesson ended with such a good feeling of well being. I believe I am in the right hands. Omer is patient; and he listens as well as talks.
Lenna P.
I have been playing in a string quartet with Omer for two years and I can easily say he's one of the most talented musicians I've ever worked with. He's also a kind, intelligent, and reliable person. Judging from the skills he displays in quartet work I have no hesitation in saying that he is a wonderful teacher.

I have been playing the flute for over 15 years and am excited to teach students of all ages and abilities! I structure my lessons around the students’ goals, whether it is to play professionally or simply as a hobby. This allows students to progress at a comfortable rate and grants them freedom of repertoire choice, while still encouraging a strong foundation in fundamental skills (breathing, phrasing, technique, posture, music theory). Lessons also focus heavily on body awareness, so as to prevent common injuries.

The 15-minute lesson option is meant for students who wish to take recorder lessons as preparation for future flute-lessons. The 15-minute price is equivalent to a 30 minute recorder lesson.

"I've just completed my first 5 lessons with Matt and have already signed up for more. I've been progressing quickly, and am impressed with Matt's knowledge. When I began, I had expressed interest in a particular genre of music. After showing me basic techniques, he focused on techniques that are used heavily in my genre. Matt teaches theory as well as technique. His explanations of scales and the layout of notes on the fretboard has really improved my sense of how chords and riffs are constructed."

Don't know my answer yet but Omer definitely helped me feel confident about my playing and be more coherent in my presentation in front of the judges. Vocal Warm-Up Exercises Inspired by Robert Shaw

Yesterday, April 30th, would have been the 96th birthday of the late Robert Shaw, famed conductor and founder of his namesake Chorale and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, most notably.  Shaw won 14 Grammy awards and 4 ASCAP awards throughout his career, and is best known for helping turn choral conducting into a true art and setting forth the standards of excellence that are still in place today. While many conductors see vocal warm-up exercises as just that - warm-ups - Shaw saw it as precio …

Blues Singers Who Use Classical Technique

Blues singing seems very far from the kind of vocal styles you’d think would need classical training -- opera, art song, musical theater -- but you’d be surprised at how much basic vocal techniques overlap! I strongly believe good singing technique is useful for every style, not just classical singing. Proper vocal technique is all about health, efficiency, and sustainability. Singing with healthy vocal technique can ensure you can keep singing your entire life and is likely what contrib …

Learning to Read Music: An Introduction for Singers

Learning to read music can be a daunting task for beginner singers! Here, Ann Arbor, MI voice teacher Elaina R. shows you how to get started...   Not to point out the obvious, but as singers, we don’t have keys on our instrument. We don’t have buttons that emit the same pitch every time they are pressed. Most of us don’t have perfect pitch, either. This makes learning to read music quite different for singers than for other musicians. Not only do singers deal with learning h …
