About Hallie
Hello there! Do you or your loved ones have an interest in music? So do I! That is why I am here to teach and share my own passion for music. I love working with children and have two boys of my own. I love teaching music and instil passion for learning into every one of my students.

Having grown up in a musical family with my mother a professional violinist, I have been exposed to the joys of music since childhood. I learned how to play Suzuki piano at the age of three, and later percussion and string instruments from when I was six years old. In high school I joined the band playing flute. I loved playing flute and piccolo so much that I decided to take this as my career and went to Interlochen Arts Academy where I excelled in my performance. I later went to Prague Conservatory and Czech Budweiss Conservatory and played with the
Prague Film Orchestra. Even more recently I have been a teacher for the Flutes and Strings classes at Unison World School in Dehradun, India.

I have enjoyed having a very successful studio here in Tampa, and hope to enrich your life with music soon!

*** Lesson Details ***
My approach to teaching varies with the age level of each student. With younger students, imitation is often one of the best methods of learning and I prefer the Suzuki method for students up to age 8, especially with strings. For older children and adults, learning music notation and basic music theory for a full understanding of musical language are more important to get them to the level where they can learn any music that they want to play for fun. For students who wish to excel in their school band, a more practical approach with technique specific warm-ups and exercises seems to be the best in general.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught in the living room which includes music stands, sheet music, whiteboard, video recording equipment and microphone, and seating for parents/students. No pets. Parking in driveway. Siblings are welcome.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide metronome, and tools for minor instrument repair. Students should provide their own music stands and sheet music.

*** Specialties ***
Suzuki method, Hrimaly, Taffanel et Gaubert, Patricia George

My son has been taking violin lessons with Hallie for almost one year. He started just after he turned 4. My concern when he started was that he was too young but Hallie has obviously taught kids his age before and knows what she is doing. She is creative in order to keep a four year old interested and engaged. She is also warm and positive. Most importantly, he's really learning how to play and about music in general - it is a wonderful feeling when he makes strides and does something that seemed so out-of-reach before.

Hallie is an extremely good teacher and is very, very kind. Although she misses nothing in terms of mistakes and weak areas, she always focuses on the positive and uses positive reinforcement to get the most out of the student. She makes very efficient use of lesson time and knows how to isolate any issues that come up. My child is a teenager and she connects very well with him. He has some ongoing issues with his form and she is so good about gently reminding him in such a way that he wants to improve and doesn't feel criticized. I'd highly recommend her. She's a very nice person and great teacher. So glad I found her.

This was our first lesson with Hallie. But she was very engaging, encouraging and asked all the questions that I could possibly hope a teacher/tutor would ask to get an idea of where the student is to make an action plan.
My Son has much more confidence that he can achieve his goals with her help! ~Thank you!

About Amy
I had my first piano lesson when I was five years old. I performed my first piano solos for audiences at school events. I joined the keyboard team at church when I was thirteen years old. I quickly learned to improvise and accompany. It was exciting to discover that I could study piano in college. I earned my way by accompanying voice and instrument choirs, rehearsals, lessons, and recitals. I enjoy helping other people excel, so I chose a teaching degree over a performance degree.

In 1991, I graduated with my bachelor of music degree in piano pedagogy. I immediately began teaching private and group piano lessons, building my studio over fifteen years to reach nearly 600 students ages five to seventy-five. I accompanied community choirs, local vocal artists, and students performing on other instruments. I performed as a subst
itute for church choir directors and accompanists. I was employed as a music director and organist for seven years.

I achieved my Music K-12 professional teacher certification with the State of Florida in 2007. I teach elementary classroom music for the District School Board of Pasco County. I continue to perform as a professional accompanist and serve on the piano faculty at the Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach beginning students to read music. I teach students to play piano successfully. Reading music is a step-by-step process. I like to begin at the beginning. Using an age-appropriate All-in-One course from Alfred Publishing, we begin with the basic layout of the piano and learn to navigate the 88 keys. If you absorb and apply the information quickly, we move along quickly. If you need a little more time to sort it out, we take all the time you need.

My piano lessons are structured around the student's interests and abilities. Whether you are looking for a fun hobby or a place to launch your musical career, our time together will guide you to your goals. I am aware of physical and cognitive developmental stages and am able to present material in a suitable format for any student, adult or child.

*Special note to parents of children with unique needs: Piano lessons are a fantastic way to provide your child with focused one-on-one time while learning new skills. Playing the piano incorporates hand-eye-brain coordination, reinforces reading skills, provides opportunities for personal achievement, and teaches self-discipline through accountability. With my experience and training in Exceptional Student Education, I am able to personalize piano lessons for students with physical and cognitive challenges.

About Karen
Hello!

I have been teaching piano for 20 years to all ages and levels.

I have been very involved in music my whole life. I am a classically trained pianist and a singer. I have accompanied choruses, sang in choirs, and played in bands, and run various music organizations.

My philosophy first and foremost is to create a program that really suits the needs of the student. Each student is unique and should be treated as such rather than a one fits all approach. I vary my repertoire depending on the student's strengths and weaknesses. I always include technique, theory, and lesson material, along with fun songs and exercises. My teacher from Julliard taught me special programs to accelerate the learning process.

Michael Washington is available for in-home lessons and will soon begin having in-studio and online lessons! Michael has been playing and studying drums (drum set, concert & marching percussion) for 29 years, hand percussion for 11 years and has been teaching since 1995. He recently came off of a tour with Wahh World Fusion Band which fuses Indian classical music with western jazz, rock, funk, RnB and drum & bass and he is also a musician/performer with the Walt Disney World company. He has been graced to play with artists spanning many genres of music and has also provided improvisational pieces for visual artists exhibits and poets and has performed in many venues in the US, Japan and Colombia including at the White House for First Lady Michelle Obama. Michael teaches all experience levels from beginner, intermediate to advanced as well
as helping other pro drummers or percussionists looking to learn more about the other side.

He has been trained in many different teaching methods and has since developed his own teaching method to enhance the students fundamental playing techniques, ear training, dexterity, basic music theory reading and transcription skills. His goals as a teacher is to help you achieve your goals as an artist musician and to take the principles learned through the study of the discipline of music into your life to help shape you into being a better person.

Genres that Michael is experienced in range from Pop, Jazz, Rock, Funk, Electro, Soul, R & B, and New Orleans 2nd Line on drum set, West African Folkloric/dance such as Soli, Kuku, Dunungbe, Mendiani, Kakilambe, Marakadon on djembe, as well as Afro-Pop such as Nigerian Afro-Beat, Mangambe, Doudoumba, Mbalax and Bikutsi on drum set and hand percussion; Brazilian Samba & MPB such as Bossa Nova, Baiaó, Afoxé, Partido Alto, Coco, Xaxado, and Maracatú on Brazilian percussion & on drum set, Egyptian Classical and Folkloric bellydance rhythms such as Maqsoum, Saidi, Masmoudi, Baladi, Sombati, Fallahi, Chiftiteli, Ayoub, Samai and Malfuf; North African Gnawa, Rai & Chaabi on North African percussion & drum set; Bomba, Plena, General Cuban /New YoRican"Salsa" such as Son, Som Montuno, Mambo, Cha-Cha-Cha, Rumba Guaguancó, Songo, Timba and Mozambique, but also Cuban 6/8 such as Guiro & Bembé, Rumba Yambú, Rumba Columbia, Abakuá Lokua Fun and Dominican Merengue on latin percussion and on drum set where appropriate.

Michael is an expert transcriber for drum set, marching percussion and hand percussion, creates his own exercises and creates breakdowns of rhythms and rudiments to better enhance the student's learning. He can also create practice audio tracks for the student to use in their individual practice time.

Michael spent 1 year at HCC studying music but realized that he was getting much better instruction through 6 years of instruction from great teachers such as Mark Thurston, Paula Williams, Benja Russel, Tim Church, Eddie Capps, Diaz Clark, Joe Southard, Eugene Fambrough, Tom Mazzeo, Paul Gansmer, Jack Starling, Mark Smith, Rob Minier, Rick Adams, Mike Neidhart, Dino Riccio, Jody Dunwoody, Steve McNeely and William Meyers within the drum corps idiom performing with Suncoast Sound and The Spirit of Atlanta, he was graced with the opportunity to perform as a percussionist at Tokyo Disney Land in 1998 and 1999 and then again at Tokyo Disney Sea from 2005 to 2010.

Most of his percussion study was done with artists/musicians who are deeply rooted in specific types of music and the culture it came from during their childhood or teen years and not from a college professor who learned it from their professor out of a book but have yet to actually perform these styles outside of their class room.
During his time in Tokyo, he took every opportunity to go see concerts at The Blue Note, Tokyo Forum, Bunka Kaikan, The Billboard Club, The Cotton Club, touring Cirque du Soliel
shows and many other venues with top quality world renowned artists. On his free time from performing at Disney, Michael was fortunate to study with great percussionists such as
Christopher "Kit" Chatham (of Blast & Shockwave) and Christopher Hardy both of Cirque de Soliel and also Abdou Bayefall and Abdoulaye Sarr Ndiaye of Senegal, Africa. Later back in the US, he studied and worked with Abdel Tahour of Morocco, took a workshop with Orlando Cotto of Puerto Rico and is currently learning from Jessica D Albino folkloric dancer/drummer of Puerto Rico.

He has traveled to Cairo, Egypt to study middle eastern music, to Colombia to teach marching percussion and learn their folk music and also to Bali, Bangkok, Costa Rica, Panama, much of the Caribbean, South Korea and Madrid to photograph in the streets and absorb the rhythm, art and cultures of those places.
