Sharon M.

Marysville, WA

About Sharon

Hi there, my name is Sharon M. I have loved music all my life and have enjoyed teaching piano for over 25 years.

I began my musical training at a young age and studied, performed and accompanied for many years. Following college (Seattle Pacific University - Music Education/Piano), I had specialized teacher training and certification to teach the Robert Pace Approach to piano (Columbia University). I also had advanced training in how to teach all styles of Improvisation with the author of "Pattern Play" Forrest Kinney. My students enjoy discovering and creating their own music from the very
first lesson.

I recognize that each student is unique and has different goals and aspirations so each student's lesson is unique and carefully prepared to inspire and create curiosity to make reaching the goal easy, fun and exciting.

My goal is: To discover and encourage each student's musical potential; to nurture and inspire creativity, musical artistry and a love of music; and to develop a strong musical foundation that provides the tools, confidence and enthusiasm to independently learn, create and enjoy music for a lifetime.

I look forward to helping you reach your musical goals!

My daughter has been performing vocal lessons with Mathew over the last 7 months and I must say both my daughter and I have thoroughly enjoyed our time with Mathew learning the finer details of singing. Mathew has great knowledge in all areas of music and has helped my daughter grow as a singer. He is patient, detailed and connects well with my child. I would also add that he has also been more than flexable with rescheduing lessons when needed, which has made our experience even more rewarding. (: Kids and their sport!

Michael C.

Lake Stevens, WA

About Michael

My name is Michael and I'm a Singer/Songwriter who studied music theory, voice and education at The Hartt School of Music. I also hold a degree from Berklee College of Music in Music Production and Sound Engineering with a primary instrument study in guitar. I have had a diverse career in the music industry ranging from working as an Opera Singer for The Connecticut Opera House, playing guitar for various jazz singers, fronting my own bands, working music technology jobs with Cakewalk Music Software, Sibelius Music Notation Software and Lexicon as well as being a Studio Supervisor for Berklee
College of Music's Music Production and Sound Engineering. I owned and ran Soundloft Studio LLC., a single room tracking and mixing studio, which was based in Los Angeles and later moved to San Francisco before closing down in 2009. I have been a freelance music teacher since 1997.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach both traditional theory and Berklee modern theory, voice, guitar, fretless guitar, song writing, sound engineering and music software use. Lessons are taught out of my house which is equipped with a project studio.

*** Specialties ***
With voice, I have studied and incorporate the Alexander Technique into my teaching -- which works on proper posture through upper spinal control for better natural timbre and breath support.

I have also studied and incorporate the Bel Canto vocal techniques which involve modifying the vowel your singing depending on the pitch you are singing to gain maximum resonance.

With guitar, I like to focus on keeping my students playing music they are interested in while working in some reading -- depending on the student we will focus more on one or the other; but always keep in mind proper technique.

Recording is about listening and learning how to use what you have at your disposal while leaving the best possible set up for editing and mixing engineers who will work in your wake.

Excellent in both instruments and voice

I took voice lessons from Michael C. and he was very easy to work with. He always provided excellent feedback and knew my strengths and weaknesses and where to focus. He provided each week a lesson with detailed tasks and wanted to keep me on track. He didn't waste any time and was prompt and professional in all dealings. I highly recommend him.

This Berklee grad knows his stuff!

I had already been playing guitar for about 10 years or so by the time I started taking lessons with Michael (so definitely not a beginner), and although my playing techniques were already pretty decent, I knew my knowledge of music theory paled in comparison and needed some work. Michael was able to easily assess where I was at and start me on a path of further music enlightenment. Before the end of my first lesson, it became clear just how much I had to learn and that Michael's musical prowess went beyond what he was teaching me.

Rather than just giving me pre-made handouts, Michael would have blank manuscript paper with which he would walk me through the theory as he was writing it out. This was extremely helpful in understanding the lesson. Michael can be flexible with his lesson plans, so if there's something specific you want to get into, he will teach if he feels you're ready.

Michael’s extensive knowledge of music theory was a big help in developing me more as a songwriter and composer. Even if you’re already an advanced player, I would definitely recommend this teacher if you are looking to broaden your musical literacy.

About Melissa

Hello and welcome to your studio!

I teach from the comfort of my home studio in the Everett/Snohomish area. My teaching style is developed specifically for each student, to give you the most out of your lesson without overwhelming you. I will help you learn to play the songs you love! My love for music is deep and I enjoy sharing what I know with my fellow students. I have seen the impact music has on families; it unites them like a beautiful song waiting to be played. Many of my students compliment my patience and say they have learned so much in so little time. Life with music is a journ
ey but not only that it is a lifestyle. Being a good, dedicated student will bring so many wonderful moments and rewards as you take the journey with your instrument of choice. I have students entering talent shows, performing at assemblies, choir, musical theatre and locally for the elderly during Christmas.

About your lessons:

I host the following recitals: a Christmas and Spring recital.

* Other books like Bastien and Alfred will be included.

Learning to sing is a wonderful thing. It is like learning any other instrument; it takes time, practice, technique, study and care.

* Breathing techniques.
* Vocal warm-ups
* Ear training.
* Learn to sight-sing.
* Perform songs within your range. I teach to train you to sing the songs you love and with that training comes singing songs you sometimes might not like. Good music teachers are working to develop your muscles, chest and head voice. With this is mind it is important to select material that will not impede or harm your voice during studies.
* Learn how to care for your voice.
