Emma M. Cypress, CA

About Emma

I started my music education at the age of 7, at the Odessa College of Music in Ukraine. At age 16 I was accepted to the highly prestigious Odessa University of Music, where later I received my BA degree in Piano Pedagogy and Performance, Summa Cum Laude. I then decided to further my education and take a 2 year Piano Performance course at the Odessa Conservatory. For over 25 years thereafter, I am teaching students of all ages. I look to develop problem solving, multitasking and other intangible life skills for my younger students through the power of music. For my adult students, I look to reduce stress and keep their brains working like new. Regardless of age, I work very hard to improve all of my student's memory, brain function, coordination and most importantly teach them how to ...

We love Ms. Emma! My boys have been taking lessons with Ms. Emma for over a year. Ms. Emma is so patient, yet firm with them. She understands their very different personalities and adapts lessons to their differing personalities, styles, and needs. She appreciates their individuality and works from there. As a result, they have learned so much! Thank you Ms. Emma!

A great piano teacher is the key to success - at any age.

It is with great pleasure that I review my piano teacher of one year, Emma M. I took a few months lessons at age 7 and a few months in my teens and again in my 20s. After being separated from a piano for 30 years, I knew I had to get back to the music I always yearned to play. I searched TakeLessons.com for a piano teacher, and Emma M.'s resume caught my attention. Emma M. understands the adult learner. She helps me focus on what is important as an adult learning to play piano. Emma helps me to set goals, and she focuses my lessons on those goals. Emma M. is a professional educator who understands the human condition, and she puts her knowledge to practice. I am grateful to have found a knowledgeable, dedicated, encouraging, and motivating teacher in Emma M. I feel I have progressed, and I look forward to many more years of learning piano with Emma M.

As Samara's colleague at UCSD, I had the privilege of collaborating with her on various musical projects and observing her composition process from start to finish. She's a creative, talented and ambitious musician who is familiar with various musical instruments and techniques. More than that, she is a dedicated educator: she has extensive knowledge of musical pedagogy and is always looking for opportunities for further professional development. I highly recommend her for students of all levels!

Our daughter took voice and piano lessons with Samara for about 6 months in San Diego. She had never had lessons before but within that short time fame our daughter learned and progressed at an unbelievable pace.

Samara is patient and extremely talented with her gifts as well as with children. Our daughter thoroughly enjoyed all her lessons with Samara and we were definitely sad to see her go.

Samara is a fantastic teacher with an incredible level of patience and perfectly calm demeanor. My four year-old daughter enjoyed every lesson and couldn't wait to go back for more. Under Samara's tutelage, my daughter made incredible strides and developed a passion for piano.

I am grateful to Samara for teaching my daughter not only the fundamentals of piano, but how to enjoy the instrument while learning. I was certainly sad to have Samara leave San Diego, but that just means other students in Long Beach will stand to gain from Samara's talents.
Carl B. Seal Beach, CA

About Carl

During your first lesson I do a computer analysis of your voice, I find out what your goals are in singing, what your favorite kinds of music are, and I take you in the direction you want to go and show you how to get there in the shortest possible time. Think you're the only one who feels that terrifying nervousness? Most everyone does, including the biggest stars. I've written a book about it entitled, "How To Conquer Nervousness For Singers", and I'll teach you to not only handle it, but to direct its energy into your singing, making your performance soar. I've also written, "How To Get Standing Ovations For Singers" to teach you to drive your audience to their feet for a standing ovation. I always record my students so that they know how they sound to others. I also make a ...

You will like Carl as your instructor. He is an expert at what he does, especially voice analysis with techniques to better any singing voice. He knows from A to Z what needs to be done to correct and improve, and this he imparts with specific instructions, coupled with lots of encouragement. He has generously worked with both my husband (a very good voice) and me (a bit of the ordinary) and we have always been satisfied with his professionalism and love of the art. Thanks, Carl.

I'm a guitarist for fun in a 3-piece band with a couple of my friends. We've had some difficulty securing a singer to jam with us so I figured that I would give it a shot.

Upon discovering TakeLessons.com, I found Carl's page and immediately decided to book lessons with him. What a fantastic decision that was! He's an excellent instructor and will assist you in becoming the best singer you can be. In particular, he emphasizes finding your own, unique voice, as opposed to imitating others; this alone was invaluable advice for a singing novice such as myself.

Highly recommended!

Got my first computer diagnosis of my singing voice and what a blast. Carl used it as a basis to show me what my tongue, soft palate, lips, and jaw do when I'm singing really well. He's my fourth singing teacher, and my best.

Julio P. Long Beach, CA

My musical journey started when I was 10 years of age. I fell in love with the guitar and started taking lessons from a local academy. My first guitar teacher taught me a variety of musical styles and provided me with a solid foundation that would help me with the rest of my career. I continued taking lessons all the way through high school and then went on to study musical education in college. Throughout my life I have played with many different bands, covering; alternative, Christian, rock, reggae, and pop. Currently, I compose and record my own music, lead a band, give guitar and keyboard lessons, and also work as an audio engineer. Lets start off with Andrew, he is a great teacher. He is straight-forward when he needs to be, and doesn't beat around the bush. However he is highly considerate and friendly. As a high school student in a high competition area, my fellow percussionist lack guidance in terms of what to know about drums/percussion. I came into the year having bad technique, poor reading skills (reading music), and not a lot of confidence in playing in front of my class (solos required by school). Andrew was able to help me with all of those things. Also, i never feel rushed, and you can go at your own pace, yet some how there is always improvement. If your having any doubts, one lesson would clear those up. All in all, Andrew is a great teacher, and i look forward to continuing my lessons with him. (I have had about 18 lessons with him so far)
