I've been a songwriter for 10+ years, and many of my songs have been featured by blogs and have won various songwriting competitions (see profile for more details). With songwriting, my primary goal is to get my students comfortable with their own artistic voice and get them writing melodies, lyrics, and chord progressions. This can involve bringing in song ideas for us to discuss, or creating them on the spot. Once a song concept has been laid out, we have the option to record a simple demo in my home studio with great recording equipment! In essence, you'll be having an incredible amount of fun learning songwriting mechanics and writing great songs.
I am Andy. I am a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts with a BFA degree in Composition/Violin Performance. I will be attending school again in the Fall to get my teaching certificate to teach in the public school system. My violin playing has been featured on Glee, with Kevin Olusola (

A basic understanding of piano is essential for every musician. As a multi-instrumentalist, my piano approach emphasizes how piano can improve your understanding of music theory and heighten your skills on all other instruments.

I have been teaching percussion and general music for over twelve years. I started teaching entire drum lines at various band camps when I was seventeen years old. I have experience performing in competitive indoor marching as well as marching band, jazz band, percussion ensemble, wind ensemble and chamber music. My instruction is focused on establishing a strong command of the basics and using common music tools to improve learning potential.
I really enjoy teaching music, especially percussion. It can take a lot of focus to be the heartbeat of the band but it sure does pay off when everything comes together.

I have had so much fun working with Josh this year in voice lessons! He creates such a positive, energetic, and nonjudgemental atmosphere, and I look forward to lessons every week. He is always so thoughtful in his feedback, and has been able to work with me on achieving my personal singing goals. I have been so lucky to be Josh's student and anyone who takes lessons from him will not be disappointed!"
I feel very fortunate to have connected with Tim to be my vocal instructor.
Tim is courteous, professional, enthusiastic, encouraging, and a true subject matter expert. His knowledge extends beyond vocal study broadly to music theory and to performance training; all skills which must coalesce within a student to create a competent vocal performer. That is what's happening with me under Tim's instruction.
Tim is keeping track of my vocal range which is steadily increasing, and I am hearing the results of my voice as its quality is honed to ever finer skill levels. In addition to vocal tone and quality, proper and song-appropriate diction is analyzed and adjusted, as well as breathing, posture, and projection; all while being encouraged to remember to put my own signature on a song.
I am being taught not only proper methods of singing, but a new and far deeper appreciation for the art of singing as a whole.
Thank you Tim."
I highly recommend Nicholas for any age or level student."
