My name is Ulyana and I'm passionate about teaching and tutoring! I graduated with a B.S. from Rice University (Houston, TX), specializing in earth sciences (geology and chemistry). I did my Masters in planetary geology at Brown University (Providence, RI), and for my PhD, I trekked over 1500 miles in Nepal, studying glacial lake flooding hazards to Sherpa villages, as well as impacts of pollution on pristine high mountains, including Mt. Everest.
For seven years now, I have either tutored or taught, in classrooms and in the field, all age groups, sharing the joy of science, math - and learning in general! When I was in my teens, I participated in many science fairs and symposia at the national and international level. Then I went to college and grad school in science. Pretty much, science has been my life! For any of your science needs, with a special focus on astronomy and geology (earth sciences), I'm here to help. I can assist with physics, biology, chemistry and math (algebra, pre-calc, calculus). Given my experience in public speaking, the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Powerpoint, Word) and writing, I can assist with that as well!
If you're interested in creative lessons - with a true focus on your learning experience, I'm your tutor! Often times when working out in the field in extreme locations (e.g., Antarctica and Mt. Everest), I have to MacGyver solutions on the fly. I want to teach you how to think. This skill will serve you well, long into the future.

Expedition leader and teacher for a National Geographic geology and climate "on assignment" high school program in Iceland.
During this one-year post-doc, I validated satellite-derived albedo (reflectivity) measurements of snow and ice with on-the-ground fieldwork in the Arctic and Himalaya.
I also quantified the amount of black carbon and dust concentrations in natural snowpacks, spanning from Alaska, to Colorado, to the Canadian Arctic, to the Himalaya. The presence of these contaminants greatly increases melting of snow and ice.
I was an instructor for a wilderness science education program for high school girls on Gulkana glacier, Alaska in 2015; and on Mt. Baker, Washington in 2014.

Ulyana is very nice, and my son really enjoys the lesson.
Perfect lesson! Dr. Ulyana is very nice, patient, and very professional.
Ulyana is a very special young woman. In searching for an online teacher for my Daughter,I felt that "Uly" would be the correct choice. My Daughter has different abilities and therefore different needs as well as understanding. Ulyana has stayed dedicated over the months and my Daughter continues to grow. Uly's skill and understanding levels are excellent, but her strength of character in perseverance and ingenuity are directed toward securing meaningful success. Growth continues to be achieved in small steps with every lesson. I am forever grateful to and for Ulyana. My Daughter is a stronger more capable individual because of Ulyana. GRATEFUL,Tom C.Show More
Ulyana is a most competent ,dedicated teacher who has helped my special needs daughter progress with navigating technology. The situation has been most challenging, but Ulyana has continued with understanding and poise. She has reached out to me immediately to clarify the progress and circumstance which has allowed me to realize why I chose her initially. Her positive demeanor, understanding and willingness to accept a most challenging situation stands out uniquely. I support her in her endeavors completely. Sincerely,TomShow More
