I collaborate with teams from various universities and the US Forest Service on multiple projects. The bulk of my time goes to maintaining a tool that enables users to analyze vegetation data to derive estimates of current conditions and trends on the Forest and surrounding landscapes.

Programmer

I maintained a US Forest Service project that uses the nation's forest census data to predict and statistically summarize the consequences of forest management strategies. I primarily worked with a .NET technology stack. I prototyped some features I added to the project by making a simpler version in Python.

I maintained databases and created various reports for clients in the Fish and Wildlife industry. I used Python to boost my productivity by automating tedious work.

I graded programming projects and homework for introductory data structures and computer science theory (discrete structures) courses.

When I was doing my undergraduate work in my university's Computer Science program, I tutored beginner programmers, graded their C++ and Java programming projects, and helped them understand important programming and computer science concepts. These students would have benefited from learning the concepts from a simpler language like Python. Now that I have real world experience as a programmer, I am better able to help students become self-sufficient sooner by promoting a proactive, win-or-learn attitude.

I have worked as a software developer for a couple of years since graduating with my BS in Computer Science. I learned skills and mindsets on the job that I wish were easier to develop in school. It's hard to connect the dots between small school projects and contributing to large projects written by many people over the years, so I would like to help you get on track.
