English (ESL) with Tom C.

I taught English as a Second Language for adults full-time for 24 years and in recent years have been tutoring students one-on-one or in small groups. I emphasize an interactive approach that enables students to speak, read, write, and comprehend English. We practice many realistic functions such as shopping for food and clothes, ordering food in restaurants, going to the doctor, explaining problems with appliances at home, finding good day care for children, and other life skills. Students also read many stories at the appropriate levels, and they write sentences and compositions. Students in my classes as well as those I tutor have learned a great deal and enjoyed doing so. I have an exceptional feel for the English language not only because of my teaching but due to a lifetime of writing. During my career I have published 600 newspaper articles and 14 books.
