I'm a professor of Spanish at Seattle University and North Seattle College. Languages are my hobby, passion, and profession--I speak seven languages. This often makes it easier for me to cater to my students because I understand the challenges of learning a language! In 1990, at the age of 23, I moved to California and my Spanish obsession began. By the time I took my first course in Spanish I was nearly fluent — I ended up tutoring my classmates. I took various Spanish language and literature courses at Diablo Valley College (1991-1993) and the University of California, Berkeley (1993-1994). In 1994, I travelled to Mexico as a student and ended up working at the UC Berkeley exchange center, Centro de enseñanza para extranjeros at the Autonomous University of Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México). In 1995, I taught Spanish at a language school Instituto Angloamericano. In 2002, I began my MA in Hispanic Studies (Language and Literature) and teaching courses at the University of Washington. Upon completion, I started teaching Spanish at North Seattle College in 2005. At North Seattle College, I have taught regular academic, hybrid online and continuing education classes. Since 2016, I've been teaching Spanish courses at Seattle University. I've lived in Mexico and traveled extensively through Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, and Spain. Here is a brief testimonial from one of my many students: "This class was amazing. Easily the best class I have ever had. Seva incorporated humor, visual illustrations and personal touches to his class, which allowed me to learn Spanish on a whole new level. I cannot tell you how nervous I was to take Spanish, as it was the only class I have ever failed in high school. Spanish is now my favorite class." My latest passion is traveling the Camino de Santiago in Spain—I've made the trek twice and anticipate doing it again. Whether learning Spanish is an academic requirement or your bucket project, I will make this process more enjoyable and productive. I look forward to helping you.

Seva is an excellent teacher. He adapts the lessons to the student's interests and end goal. The lessons are always fun, not just covering the language, but the culture as well. I would highly recommend online language lessons with Seva to my friends and family.

It's fun taking language lessons with Seva, and you learn fast. He strikes the right balance between patience and pushing you, so that your progress is steady and stressless. Also, he is an expert in literature and culture which he constantly brings into the learning of the language. Instead of a lot of boring repetition, Seva emphasizes appreciation of history and culture, which is why I want to learn a foreign language in the first place.

I've been taking Spanish lessons from Seva with a small group and it is one of the highlights of my week.--not only because of the instruction, but also because of the camaraderie and positive group dynamic Seva has established though humor and the taking of a personal interest in each member. In addition to his language instruction skills, he brings to the class extensive knowledge of literature, history and culture across many Spanish-speaking countries, which adds interest and richness to our conversations.
