5 years ago, I started an unexpected and atypical journey into the world of computer science. As a self-taught developer, I'm familiar with the many struggles that come with learning how to code. I'm also appreciative of the many rewards that it brings!

Even if you're not planning to enter a STEM discipline, learning how to code and gaining exposure to concepts in computer science will give you access to a unique set of tools that will help you to excel in any domain. 

I spent 3 years as a Computer Science Instructor with a nonprofit organization providing instruction and professional development for people of all ages, working to increase computer science exposure in public schools. The one concept that I always stress in my instruction is:

Computer science is not the study of computers. It's the study of problems, whether they can be solved, and how best we can solve them.

If you've ever had a problem you wanted to solve but didn't know where to start, learning to code can teach you a way of thinking that will allow you to grab a firm hold of your options while devising creative and efficient solutions. 

So if you've ever wondered how computers work, how you can make games, websites, robots, art, or applications, or if you've ever had trouble deciding how you should spend your allowance, or what you should do with your time, this may be the course for you!

Hi, my name is Poitier. I’m a software developer specializing in Web Application Development. I’ve been coding since I was in high-school years and during that time I've worked on projects related to graphics, robotics, machine-learning, and Games. 

I spent 3 years as a Computer Science Instructor for the nonprofit organization Code for Fun where I got to teach hundreds of wonderful students and teachers, and lead workshops letting people gain their first exposure to computer science. 

My favorite part of teaching is watching a student take an idea they came up with and turn it into reality. My proudest moment was getting to see six of my students earn internships for ideas they implemented.

When I’m not coding or teaching people how to code, I like to go hiking, camping and do archery. As things start getting back to normal from the pandemic, I plan to take up the longsword as well.
