Knitting

Levels Taught:
Beginner, Intermediate
In addition to being a crafting junkie, I am an actor/writer living their second dream! Before moving to New York I served for six years in the Air Force and now I’m indulging my artistic soul. I was taught knitting by my grandmother when I was seven years old and haven’t stopped since! I have 25 years of knitting experience. My passion for the craft only grows with each project! I am also a seasoned teacher of all ages as a substitute teacher with Manhattan private schools and also a Musical Theatre and Acting Teaching Artist with The Secret Theatre in Queens. I have taught knitting independently for five years. I hold a Bachelors of English and a Conservatory Certification in Musical Theatre. I am currently pursuing my Knitting Instructor Certification with the Craft Yarn Council.

I can't say enough great things about Melissa. I had done some very basic knitting previously, and she taught me so many new tips and tricks in a very short amount of time. She's friendly, patient, and has a true passion for the art of knitting! It's inspiring to hear about the fun projects she's working on (usually as sweet gifts for other people). If you take a class from this super smart gal, you won't regret it!

As a clueless knitter, she taught me how to start stitching and helped me make an awesome hat I still wear today!

Melissa was a great instructor for knitting. She walks you through each step and makes sure you completely understand the process. She walks you through casting a stitch, different stitches needed for each project, and how to go back and correct a dropped stitch. Her lessons are thorough and great for building the foundation needed for knitting well. She makes it simple enough for a beginner to understand and does so with humor and charm. I highly recommend Melissa!

Melissa is an excellent knitting teacher and her experience shined in lessons. She is extremely patient, which is helpful for first time knitters. She also takes the extra time to observe what issues I was personally having trouble with and find the best ways to correct my errors.

Had a great time learning to knit for the first time. Melissa made my first experience memorable with the colorful needles and materials presented beautifully, in addition to her amazing aura. Thanks Melissa!
