English (ESL) with Laurel J.

I have been an English language instructor with the International English Language Institute for the past three years. After earning a Masters in English Literature and Teaching Writing, I sought teaching positions immediately. Since I was a little girl I have wanted to be a teacher, and realizing that dream has changed my life. My biggest strength as a teacher is my enthusiasm: I truly enjoy what I do and count myself very privileged to be able to do what I love every day. I will enthusiastically celebrate with you every victory, and no victory is too small to celebrate! However, I also bring extensive knowledge of English grammar, writing strategies, and research methods to the classroom, digital or otherwise. I have counseled many students on their writing, and it's probably my favorite part of teaching. I have also worked with students on their conversational and reading skills, and helped students develop their strengths in these areas. I would love to sit and have a conversation with you, or work on targeted grammar issues that you may have. I would be happy to go over writing together, or assist you in composing the text for a speech. I am a good listener, and will listen to you practice presentations or read aloud texts you are working on and give you feedback on both areas for improvement, and things you are doing well. I am a process- and product-focused teacher. I believe that the processes of writing, speaking, reading and listening are just as important as the end results, but the end results are what we should celebrate and be proud of.
