I am a professional software developer with experience in C++, Perl, SQL, Java, C#, and Python. I completed a Master's degree in Computer Science in 2003. While a graduate student I taught beginning computer skills to freshman college students. After completing graduate school I worked as a SQL Server DBA for a year and since then I have been a Java software developer while occasionally using other languages. My teaching technique involves beginning with the end in mind. In the first beginning class you will be given a complete computer program showing all the major concepts required for beginning students to learn which is about 15 weeks worth of material. By the end of the first lesson you will understand how it all works together. The remainder of the beginning classes flesh out more detail from that first computer program. For advanced students we will go into the tools and practices that professional software developers use to make themselves more productive. These include unit testing, build automation, and source control management. We will also cover the language you choose in more detail.
